Digital Nintendo-published titles to be cheaper than physical releases going forwards

Starting from May with the release of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, digital versions of Nintendo-published Switch 2 exclusives are set to be cheaper than their physical counterparts. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is now set to cost $69.99 for physical copies, with digital buyers saving $10 at $59.99. Though this is new for US audiences, it should be noted that this has been the case since the system launch in the UK, EU, and Japan. For comparison, Mario Kart World retails for £74.99 physically, with the digital version being £66.99. Similarly, the recently released Pokemon Pokopia retails for £66.99 physically, with the digital version being £58.99.

As they say: "the billions of dollars they have, the less expensive it seems to them."

Were they smoking crack when they thought of this idea? That's still crazy expensive for digital copies alone.

its a start. hopefully the switch 2 is hacked soonish so we can over come this problem.

"Cheaper" ... 70€ for a digital download is not cheap ! its just slightly less expensive.

F*ck you Nintendo! i'll keep buying my games in the used market. If i wanted to pay and not own my copy i would buy it on Steam. At least there i can still play all the games on a new machine.

Nah, I prefer physical copies because of the artwork, and it’s nice to have a collection. A digital download means nothing to me, and it also takes up memory space. I don’t mind a digital download if the game is never meant to have a physical copy—that’s a different story.

Oh this is too funny… Of course this is after they jack the price up $10 so now it seems like you’re saving money by going digital, but you’re just paying the prices you were before. Business 101

Edit: this isn't the good news some of you are praising it to be. They're doing this in parallel with raising all new physical carts $10.

Shits wild.

Most people here just want shits for free basically. :teach:
I mean someone here did mention that they appreciated the person who worked on Switch Mods so they can get access to Switch games through other means.... As much as it's convenient, I personally wished that wasn't the main highlight of owning a Modded Switch and the capabilities of the system being more important and whatnot. People can get games through other means on other consoles, but I've noticed that the goal of doing that is more emphasized on Nintendo consoles specifically than any other moddable system.

it's called the "you own nothing" tax. Pay less for the digital, and pay more for physical (physical games, not that "key card" crap) that you can play years after the eshop is discontinued.
I do wonder when this eShop discontinuation will come. We can still redownload Wii, 3DS, and Wii U games. It'll be an interesting marker if/when they actually become unavailable.

We're coming up on 2 decades of the opening of the DSi/Wii Shops, and they are still up to allow people to download their purchases. And this was when their online play servers were handled by a 3rd-party.

when the next console comes that doesn't support backwards compatibility comes out, said console will probably make digital/physical ports for switch games and below, if not that, the actual next gen console as the switch 2 imo seems like the N3DS in many ways atm, the same cycle as always, though the exact date of this is literally anyones guess
