Xbox Mode is coming to Windows 11 next month

Those who have been keeping up to date with Microsoft's handheld partnership may already be familiar this. Stripping away the desktop interactions of Windows and presenting a more console-like experience for PC gaming, the gaming-focused mode has been made available via the "Xbox Full-screen Experience" since November. Going beyond the cleaner UI, users have reported performance gains in games thanks to background apps and some tasks being disabled. Now formally known as Xbox Mode, Windows 11 users on any device can expect to access it in April.

For the folks out there who are locked to Windows for their gaming setups, this has the potential to be a real positive change for the operating system with little to no downsides. How the final product will look and act is yet to be seen though.

I Hope they will fix messy operating system because now its painfull to use. Nothing works as easy as should be. Some things were moved to new unnecesary locations and now there are a lot of different settings panels, settings locations in all ui styles you can imagine. This needs to stop now. This is cancer. We need a well build consistent operating system.

I’ve low key wanted this for years

I hope that it is good enough to replace playnite in which I use a theme to mimic the Xbox dashboard. Playnite isn’t exactly light on resource usage tho

If this app is snappy and allows 3rd party applications to be added, I’m happy

Windows getting a xbox mode. Playstation 5 got a "XBOX MODE" (Cause it has xbox games on it)
Can't wait for my android tv to get xbox mode too. :P
There is already streaming of Xbox games as well as the Xbox emulator getting pretty good now.
In addition to that playing PC games on android is now also surprisingly good, includeing a lot of Xbox "exclusives" that have been ported to PC and distributed through steam.

I prefer not to stream a game. It hasn't proven reliable yet in my opinion, and I was disappointed when Nvidia shield became more of a streaming device instead of a game console device. They could have least continued to beef up the portable model or the console model, or even add their hardware to android tv. But they just made a more budget device that just looks so unappealing now. :ninja:

Another nail in the coffin for Windows OS...

At least they should must ask the owner/user if they want that crap installed on their computers.
The icon on Windows computers that used to be called "My Computer" is now "This PC" so it's not even yours anymore (according to M$).

I still use Windows 10 LTSC and am very happy with it, no unwanted crap installed, but if you're the type to install newer programs/games then you'll need a retail OS copy instead as this one isn't compatible with it.

Well I guess the worst console UX is still better than the worst desktop UX if you're on a handheld. Ads, ads as far as the eye can see.
and if you still have to use windows, you can fix this yourself, just look at Cario Desktop Environment. The point of PC is the modibily, and if you don't put that to your advantage, then what's even the point.

What kind of stuff tends to be incompatible with LTSC versions of Windows 10/11?, the only difference should be that you need to manually install the required drivers or software needed for games and the like to work.

Newer programs that require a newer build, pretty much. I've sort of moved on to Android so don't use Windows that often anymore.

Unfortunately, it looks like Google's locking up Android so I'll probably have to move yet again to another OS when that happens.

Steam BPM is still better.. Microsoft hasn't made a good UI In decades.
right now it boots to xbox app but there is a drop-down to choose the default app so maybe Steam can be there
this bypasses booting the desktop interface

so you should be able to boot directly to Steam BPM but without the Windows desktop environment

i'm all in favor of this, i tried linux but I game on my 65" LG C2 so I want HDR and i was having issues with HDR on the linux side
