One of the bigger announcements from the Xbox Games Showcase today was the reveal of an Xbox handheld device. It had been rumored for a while, though the final product might be a bit unexpected. Called the ROG Xbox Ally, the system is a variant of the already existing ROG Ally, with Xbox buttons and a more controller-type grip. It will run Windows 11, though it will have a more Xbox-themed UI for your games library. As it uses Windows, you'll be able to install Steam, Epic, and whichever launcher you prefer.

There will be two variants of the handheld, in the form of the ROG Xbox Ally, and the ROG Xbox Ally X. The former will feature an AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor, with 16GB of DDR5X RAM, 512GB storage, and a 120Hz screen. The more powerful X will have impulse triggers, 24GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and a USB4 Type C port. The full specs can be seen on the official Xbox website. They'll both be out later this holiday season. Pricing will also be announced later.

Will play "Xbox"360 games at full resolution but if you want to play Cyberpunk 2077 you will have to buy a Switch 2,,,sorry! looks damn ugly does it not, looks like one of those rip off cheap handhelds some dodgy company releases for £69.99p

I was shocked when I first ran Cyberpunk 2077 on the switch 2 tbh it was the best I had ever seen the actual game running smoothly and look amazing

For real! It's directly from Microsoft, they have an opportunity to make a debloated gaming-focused Windows to save on resources and compete with Steam OS solely based on the benefits of not having to worry about third-party anticheat barring you from playing some of the most popular games, as well as established brand familiarity. I'm sure that cuts into their spyware profits though.

Not necessarily it may sound all powerful with its specs but it’s running windows 11 as it’s os which as we all know gaming laptops and desktops run like crap even with the best cpu and gpu money can buy. Windows 11 still can’t run Cyberpunk 2077 smoothly without glitches and that’s been out a while. I cannot wait to see the big flop from Witcher 4 when it’s released. The Switch 2 is looking awesome big things on the horizon for that

i dont think im ever going to forgive the switch for changing the definition of handheld consoles to something that logistically isnt leaving your house. obviously big screens and hyper-ergonomic controls are attractive but i dont want to live in a world that forgets how beautiful the original dsi was

Let's be honest... it's a Microsoft product... it's probably going to be "hacked" and better OS options will be available.
That makes it more attractive than a Switch 2.
Having a Handheld twice as powerful as a Switch 2 with potential to overwrite the OS with SteamOS or other operative system is really attractive.

Not gonna lie, that size that could also plug into the TV would be bloody ultimate with peripheral BT controls, but that's pretty much a phone these days. Back in the glory decade, gaming portables were worthy of the term powerful as well as portable, but no one today wants a hot potato that can only play temple run and candy crush. If Swatch was made with a smaller screen without denting cooling - that's actually the optimal overall and I like it for that.

i use a retroid pocket flip 2 as my daily driver and you can dock it with basically the same ease as a switch. only a little bigger than a new 3ds xl and it has active cooling. total beast for emulation and since it runs android i like streaming stuff im playing for my friends on the mobile build of discord
