ROG Xbox Ally handheld device announced

One of the bigger announcements from the Xbox Games Showcase today was the reveal of an Xbox handheld device. It had been rumored for a while, though the final product might be a bit unexpected. Called the ROG Xbox Ally, the system is a variant of the already existing ROG Ally, with Xbox buttons and a more controller-type grip. It will run Windows 11, though it will have a more Xbox-themed UI for your games library. As it uses Windows, you'll be able to install Steam, Epic, and whichever launcher you prefer.

There will be two variants of the handheld, in the form of the ROG Xbox Ally, and the ROG Xbox Ally X. The former will feature an AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor, with 16GB of DDR5X RAM, 512GB storage, and a 120Hz screen. The more powerful X will have impulse triggers, 24GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and a USB4 Type C port. The full specs can be seen on the official Xbox website. They'll both be out later this holiday season. Pricing will also be announced later.

What a pathetic and uninspiring product. Not even an Xbox d-pad.
I had to check out the original image again, and yeah, it's not one I've seen Microsoft use before. It resembles the Xbox 360's D-pad, but it's obviously one that ASUS has been using.

I don't know where I stand on D-pad's anymore. I used to swear by the Dual Shock 2 D-pad. Then, I got used to the 360's well enough, despite its reputation. I really like the Xbox One's D-pad, which doesn't have diagonals and focuses on the four cardinal directions. I also use the RetroBit Saturn controller, which has one of the best online reputations of any D-pad.

Microsoft have cancelled with ROG because Microsoft didnt announce new handheld i think its little mix up so I guess Rog got excited went ahead to far without Microsoft permission also with Window issues too.

The real question is: will this portable have gyro support? It feels like Microsoft has a thing against gyro. It's 2025 and their controllers STILL don't have gyro 🤦🏾‍♂️

I have a Rog Ally X, I must say i'm happy with it.
All I say is Win11 is shit on a handheld, Battzite is much better.
Did't go for the this one, 300 euro more for a 20% more performance was not worth it.
What do you play on it or can you? Surely Switch exclusives and maybe OG Xbox, PS3, and Xbox 360?

As Android/Windows handhelds get more powerful we can use it to emulate consoles rather than use the original ones, and for me, that's very convenient.

For the Xbox Ally X I did see a video from Digital Foundry recently of them getting Bloodborne running pretty well. It's not flawless and does mostly rely on being plugged in, but it's bloody impressive all the same:

Mosly games from Steam, I play allot Dying Light, Witcher 3, Hades II and Steet of rage 4 on it.
When my wife want see some shitty movie/tv so I can play some games on it.
Still need to try switch emulation on it.

Tested this out last night. Windows 11 seriously sucks and dragged the entire experience down.
So true, after the 3rd time it got stuck on the "please wait" screen I was done with it.
After a hour I installed Battzite and after that the experience got allot better.
