update I just learned you have to use a wii because the wiiu will never be able to read burnt discs and it requires a moded disc drive or homebrew I'm pretty sure read and write disc should work with darkcrop right

1. DARKCORP only works on early Wiis. Later Wiis can't read any burned discs without a modchip.
2. DARKCORP is not a recommended method. It messes with system IOS and causes issues. There are much safer methods.
3. Why burn discs? A cheap external HDD or SSD can hold all the games you could ever want to play (on either Wii or Wii U) and won't wear out the laser.

true but I got at least 50+ dvds (read and write compatible) and all discs are dirt cheap do you know the best homebrew app that will read (and write for save files) burnt DVDs with at least 1 wii iso please

On a Wii:
1. Install d2x cIOS.
2. Boot into USB Loader GX.
3. Click the disc button (top right)
If that doesn't load your burned DVD, nothing will (but post a syscheck just in case: https://wii.hacks.guide/syscheck.html)

Like I said. Later Wiis can't read burned discs without a modchip. It doesn't matter what app you use. They only read legitimate discs.

I take it that the wiiu usb loader gx will not boot burnt disc due to its hardware and it never will right I will try usb loader gx I tired it on my wiiu and it works perfectly thanks

Correct. Wii U drivechips are technically possible, but nobody wants to make them because it's not profitable. After all, you can just load games from a USB drive. There isn't much market for a Wii U drivechip.

Fun fact: Cobra tried to make an ODE for the Wii U but they never sold it because allegedly it would require a kernel exploit to get the drive key which would render the entire ordeal pointless as you wouldn't even need the ODE at that point. https://gbatemp.net/threads/cobra-ude-announced-wii-u.368145/
We have had Wii U kernel exploits for a while now, and we can get the keys, but the interest in such a thing is long gone.

gotcha so the best way I can possaibly play any disc based format that has a burned iso is make a insane diy project and get or make the parts yourself could be cheap since it's just going to read burned blue ray and dvd isos may could or could not be cheap or easy if anything it won't be easy and it won't be cheap for long because everything is getting digitalized dang thanks I'm going to try neo gamma on my wii I can't find anywhere on the internet about it's risks of bricking and all of that maybe you can just give me a answer in as depth as you can that will really help me out thank you for the help your a saint for dealing with me

Honestly I'd just play games in Cemu nowadays. You can get better resolution and framerate and with game specific hacks even increase the render distance, texture detail etc.
Most Wii U games are also on Switch but Switch emulation is more demanding.

NeoGamma is pretty old and basic. It's what all the current USB loaders are based on so it's better to use one of those as they have more functionality and better compatibility. Everything NeoGamma can do, an up to date USB loader does better.

yea I don't have a switch I got 4 home consoles and 3 handheld I have 3-4 nintendo DS lites somewhere in my house I got enough video game systems as it is but the question still remains what is the level of brick risk with neo gamma nowhere on the internet says anything about it I just want to know if its better then dark corp this way I don't have to worry about the hand me down wii from my uncle being bricked nearly as much by the way I like your personality and your interest into video game modding and your amazing feed back your awesome your leading the gba temp site that is a certified fact congrats

There is no brick risk. But why NeoGamma? There is no reason to use it nowadays, and it doesn't even work with all games.

I am just doing this for fun and do you know what games work by any chance
Not sure, I think skyward sword didn't work. Possibly other MotionPlus games as well.
I had a NeoGamma forwarder installed on my brother's Wii that he used to load burned discs since it could autoboot, that eventually didn't work with new games anymore so I had to switch him over to USB Loader GX. Older games all worked fine though.

Okay thanks so the best thing I can do with neogamma is try burning old game iso's onto a dvd-rw and see if that works thanks I think someone should make a spreed sheet of what games work and what games don't thanks you all for your help this site is awesome for feedback help because of its community

I thought it would be a good idea to put all the motion plus games Here for reference to what games may or may not work

Update: I found a neogamma softmod guide site I don't know if this is legit but if it is it's a great resource for the Neo gamma softmod site
