"Star Fox 64" is getting a native PC port

Another beloved classic from the 5th Generation of videogame consoles is getting a native PC port. This time, the famous on-rails shooter for the Nintendo 64, Star Fox 64 (or Lylat Wars depending on the region), is getting a proper PC port made by the same developers that brought Ocarina of TIme to PC.

"Starship" is the codename given to the PC port of the game, made by the same people behind the Ship of Harkinian, specifically Sonic Dreamcaster and Samplywx, since they were the ones who worked on this specific PC port of Star Fox 64. The developers from Ship of Harkinian are now going by the name of Harbour Masters 64, and a few days ago, speedrunner Rakanai livestreamed a complete run of the game showcasing a beta of the native PC port, and while Titania had some bugs and glitches, those issues are expected to be resolved in due time.

The pros from the Ocarina of Time PC (Ship of Harkinian) port could apply to Star Fox 64 as well, with the expected 60 fps without speedup glitches tied to animations, proper widescreen and even ultra wide support, higher resolutions, support for mods and even a fanmade remaster are within possibilities once the PC port is finally available.

While the PC port of Star Fox 64 still doesn't have a final release date, the team are expecting a proper build of the game to be available on December for users to play. Those interested in playing the PC port, remember that you will be required to provide your own dump of Star Fox 64 in order to create the PC build.

like they couldn't do anything about the botw randomzier MOD eh? you really have no clue just what nintendo are like now they can and will take these down if they want to be it mod or port it won't matter they make the rules. and there won't be a damn thing any of you will be able to do about it.
Show me when they've taken down the Mario 64/OOT/Majora/Perfect Dark ports.. Mario has been up since 2019 and as their mascot if they could've done something they would've by now

the closest thing for the Mario 64 Decomps were the forks/distributors who included the ROM with the PC port IIRC, but they kinda can't becuase it's actually clean room engineering and it's in a similar state like the Doom source code where you can't have any of the assets from the game bundled with it and need to provide it yourself.

Wow! Thank you very much, when there is also Banjo and Star fox it will be great
Agreed. I can't wait for Kazooie and Tooie integration with Stop 'n' Swap too.

I think the guy is exaggerating for the sake of satire.

For the record, if I'm not mistaken, Star Fox 64 targets 30 fps. I also don't think interpolation would look bad, it surely doesn't for me with Mario 64.

I couldn't get into this back in my N64 days.
Thought it was pretty shit tbh

Maybe now I'll appreciate it?
I'll give it a go, but from what I remember of SF64, it won't be any different

Well, it's an on-rails arcade spaceship score attack game with talking animals and saturday-morning cartoon dialogues. If you're into that, then it's great.

yaaaay, i can't fucking wait to play basically the same game i would have been playing on my totally real SNES for ever but this time with shitty interpolation to give the illusion of 60 FPS (it'll still be 20 FPS under the hood so enjoy suffering)
.... you think Star Fox 64 came out on the SNES???

from a gameplay and story prespective, StarFox 64 might as well be a remake of StarFox 1 on the SNES

I'm more concerned about their lack of knowledge of interpolation..
If my eyes see something that moves like shit, I'm going to say that it moves like shit, plus there's nothing stopping them from working on a 60FPS Patch with the decompiled code and releasing it day 1 with the PC port.

Did you stub your toe on a copy of Star Fox 64 when you were younger or something? This is a weird hatred

Do you feel that often with interpolated games? (Talking about cases where the visual aspects of the game are interpolated between logic frames, not about cases where the video is post-processed with some AI thing... I'll agree that the later often looks bad)

Not asking out of spite, I'm genuinely curious if people can spot those things at naked eye and feel bothered by it. Especially in the case of Starfox 64 since most moving things are either disjointed hard flying objects or stuff with a simple shape.

A true 60 fps (or higher) patch, as in making the game logic itself more fluid rather than adding interpolation, would require for everything that uses the original 30 fps target as a measurement of time to be reworked, which is possible but also not trivial to do in the least.
