Using ssd over hdd for usb loader gx any disadvantages? I ordered a y cable but due to the canada post strike I may not get it for a long time. I know you may not notice difference in load speed between the two but are there any other disadvanges. Most people use HDD for it I know that ssd use less power and may not need a y cable. I'd like to hear people's experiences if anything was worse. I am using a kingston 240gb drive.

I use a 2.5SSD for my Wii.
There's no advantage nor disadvantages since the Wii is limited to USB 2.0 speeds.

The only advantage is that SSD uses 5V, so it'll just work as is with the USB cable.

HDD needs more power, sometimes 12V, which will require more effort to set-up and more cables to feed it in.

It works well for me. Can't really tell much difference, listing the games in USB Loader GX seems faster since it doesn't need to spin up the drive, not sure if there is any difference to load times in games. I think long term it will be more reliable. 2.5" HDDs always seem to die sooner than 3.5" and USB loaders are all reads, zero writes, so it shouldn't wear out the SSD flash. It's the ideal use case for SSDs.
