I've got one of these bad boys:

Anyone here happen to know what's the max SD card size that works on this cart? I believe it runs Wood.

(Edit: Seems to work fine with larger cards if they're formatted as FAT32. I've got a 256GB card in there and it seems to work fine.)

I dont know about maximum, but I'm able to get r4i gold 3ds plus to boot with a 256gb card. I cant guarantee that the older ones will also work though, and I dont know if you fill the card with roms, if it will be able to run the games that are stored past 32gb on the card

I think the max is 32GB... which should be plenty.
I currently have a stash of 200+ DS roms (can't remember if 260 or 280) and they occupy 22GB.
That alongside emulators+roms and interesting homebrew should be more than enough.

If your flashcard accepts SDHC micro sd you should be able to go up to 256gb and even 512gb, personally I tested 128gb and 256gb it does not pose any real problems except for certain emulators like DSx86 which, on a 256gb micro sd put time to load (around 3 minutes to load a small game like Dune)
Here is the model of mine which seems old but with which it works

PS: if you have a 3ds with luma installed, I recommend that you format your card with godmode9

Maximum card size is around 32GB SD-HC. You can, if you wanted to, re-partition a larger 64GB or 1TB microSD to a 32GB FAT32 partition to make it happen. I don't ever see the point, best to stick with lower capacities.
I've got a 32GB in there right now, it's totally fine for casual use with all the stuff I really want - I've just had "what if I put the whole no-intro set on an SD card" intrusive thoughts

Update:

I downlo- ...dumped a collection of all English titles games for the DS. Without multiple versions for multiple regions, Japan-only games, etc, the size is only around ~100GB.
Stuck it all on a 256GB card I've had lying around (formatted as FAT32), and while I haven't tested thoroughly, it seems to work perfectly fine!
