EDIT: I could make it work. Solution provided by impeeza.

Hi,

I have a longer business trip upcoming, so I thought I can play some games on Switch, since I normally don't play much on it.

So first things I did was:
- Updating Atmosphere to 17.1
- Updating OFW to 18.1
- Updating Sigpatches (At least I think I did and updated them, but I am not sure if it worked considering my problem, but if anyone can give me instrcutions where I can find the newest ones and how to install I would be happy)

Then I installed the following games via the MTP Responder in dbi:
- Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door
- Mario RPG
- Donkey Kong vs Mario
- Stardew Valley
- Luigi Mansion 3
- Metroid Dread

All of the above are working fine, only Metroid Dread does not at all (although MTP Respoder said everything was okay).
It just shows me a gray box, instead of the cover and when I click it, I get an error. If I go to the insalled games option in dbi, it also only shows me a quesionmark, so does not recognize the title at all.
If I install additionally the latest update file, i see the cover, but when I click on it, I get an error about corrupted data.
I also tried to install it inside the NAND instead of the SD card, but again, the exact same problem.

I thought of course, there must be something wrong with the NSP, so I got a XCI from another source, but I get the exact same problem.

I really want to play this game and would be happy about any ideas what the problem could be and how to fix it.

Gray box means something is happening during the install and its not installing properly

sounds like you're just getting bad copies of that specific game somehow. Maybe its corrupting when you extract its zip/rar file. I don't believe the gray box can really be caused by anything else. But im sure someone else will chime in if thats not true

As I mentioned I downloaded the game from 2 different sources, one NSP and one XCI, but the same problem, so I doubt it’s the rom, however I will try one from a third source as well.

By the way is there any other way to install the game except MTP Respoder in dBi, as I am on FAT32 and the file is bigger than 4GB I cannot first copy it to the SD card…

Sorry but in the second link, which file should I download and install, source code or binary? Also do these also work on FW 18.1?

Thats why i mentioned that something could be happening during the extraction process.

Syspatch would ensure all of your sigpatches are up to date tho. That or HATS pack. (which also has it included)

You are the best.
I installed sys-patch (just replaced some files on the SD card), rebooted the Switch, reinstalled the ROM and now its working perfectly!

Imo sigpatches should just not be advised any longer to anyone. Constant problems with sigpatches starting with 18 and post after post after post after post of people unable to start games that has been remedied nearly 100% of the time with sys-patch. Can we just altogether stop having people use sigpatches and just use sys-patch in all tutorials/guides?

yeap, SYS-Patch is a sysmodule which run at start and apply patches on the memory. is a complementary to sigpatches.

That's because people are unable to read properly, and don't make me start about people do not following simple instructions.
