So I downloaded Puzzle Bobble on my 3DS via hShop, but when I boot it up, it just stays on a black screen. Does anyone know the problem or how to fix it?

Title ID, Region, Full game name?

In the Euro region I only found Puzzle Bobble Universe, which worked fine on my 2DS XL with firmware 11.17.0-50E.

0004000000033800, Europe, Puzzle Bobble Universe.

I'm currently trying to play it on my old 2DS, and I also have the North American version, which is "Bust-A-Move Universe." I also tried have the Japanese version, but all of them have the same issue.

Can't remember if my o3DS XL has hshop, but will check it and try installing it when I get the time.

The fact that "all" of them have the same issue for you, is weird to say the least.

This is the one I installed to test and it worked fine. Is your 3DS up to date?
Do any other games that you've recently downloaded from hShop experience this issue?

My 2DS is on the latest version, and I have never had this issue with any game.

Also, it isn't something new. I tried to play it about a year ago, and it had the same issue as now.

I just tested it on my 2DS, which has a slow 16gb SD card in it. Downloads from hShop run about 1/4 the speed of my n2DS-XL, and just going back to the home menu takes 3-4 times as long as other 3DS's that I own, so I thought it could be a good test candidate. The game works fine.

For what it's worth, I have the same issue with Ridge Racer 3D on my 2DS. No matter what, it will crash the 2DS every time I start it.

The only thing I could think of is changing the SD card you're using and see if that helps.

The game doesn't seem to have any extra data or save data that I could find (admittedly I didn't play the game, I just loaded it). Deleting the game and your save might help, just in case one is corrupted.

Try disabling the Plugin Loader in Rosalina menu if it's enabled, just in case and in Luma disable game patches / loading external firms if you have those enabled.

Going back a "stock" hacked 2DS as much as possible might help eliminate issues too.

Maybe it's the SD card, but I was going to replace it with one of a larger capacity anyway.

Also, it doesn't really crash my 2DS since I can easily go back to the home menu.

So it's not a problem with the SD card

hmm
or emulator. this is happening on real hardware. will try usa and japanese versions this evening. if they all are broken it might be an updated os thing.

new 128gb sandisk ultra microsd. a fast cheep solid card, if anyone is interested. I've seen notes that larger cards can cause issues with the 3DS.

one more thing, from a cart dump, not an hshop image. the 3DS I have is USA region, which if bust-a-move works might be a region issue. if not it's something in the original code.

I have a standard 32GB Kingston SD card, and I have tried all the regions where the game was released, but none of them worked.

I just got bust-a-move working, so on my system it's specific to just the europe version. will try the Japanese version tomorrow.

Well I think that's interesting. I've tried many games, but there's only two that end up with a black screen, both can get back to the main menu with the home button, and that's the Europe version of puzzle bobble, and the Japanese version of puzzle bobble. Other Japanese and European games I've tried work fine. This is on real original 3DS hardware from verified images. Hopefully this is useful to someone that knows how to figure out what's happening. On my system, the USA version bust-a-move works. Best of luck!

Finally got an appointment with an ENT, but it's not for another month. It's already been 4- days of loud ringing in my left ear, substantial pain on left side of my neck and left side on the back of my head. Doctors here at the regular clinic put me on a couple different meds for a month that did absolutely nothing, then they told me there's nothing more they can do for me despite being in pain and my ear sounding like im underwater and ringing.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Then three chiropractor appointments which also didn't help at all so i didn't go to the 4th. Been trying to get ahold of this ENT clinic out of town for a week and finally got an appointment set up. But its not til the 17th of July so I have to suffer all this shit for nearly another month.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
I hope relief from all of this is on the way because I've felt so defeated and severaly lacking in sleep because of the pain and ringing.
