Majora’s Mask PC port 2Ship2Harkinian gets its first release

After several months of work, the Harbour Masters 64 team have released their first public build of 2Ship2Harkinian, a feature-rich Majora's Mask PC port. This comes just weeks after Zelda64Recomp, a separate PC port of Majora's Mask, released to show the potential of static recompilation tool N64Recomp. Being known for their Ocarina of Time port before this the Harbour Masters 64 team have a number of great quality of life improvements out of the gate, with more to follow in the future as the project matures.

In the 1.0.0 release dubbed Rika Alfa, you can expect to find options allowing for free camera control, Ocarina of Time-style saving, and cutscene skipping amonst much more. The port also features configurable graphics options, as well as framerate customisation that makes use of matrix interpolation, preserving the 20 FPS in-game logic while giving you the smooth experience many come to expect of a modern title.

As with Ship of Harkinian you are required to provide a ROM to be able to play, with both the N64 1.0 and GameCube USA ROMs being supported. Setup is as easy as pointing the executable file to your ROM, and setting whatever new options you might fancy out of the gate. For Steam Deck users there is also a native Linux release available. You can find the source code and download linked below.

I hope it doesn't become the horrible minefield of options and randomising and everything else they can cram into it like the OG ship has become.

I'm at least hoping for the randomiser to come across myself. I don't think it adds too much clutter to the larger UI since it gets its own tab and is largely contained there. As for the rest of the options in SoH, they really are stellar, but my lord I do agree it needs some organisation work. It's functional but even something simple like remapping the controller took me longer than it should have. I at the very least had no such issues setting up 2S2H.

the one screenshot of the settings dropdown doesn't inspire confidence, the submenu hell is why i'm waiting for zelda64recomp to become more fleshed out because it's easier to configure something on say, the steam deck when the menu actually is navigable and all the settings don't require insane depth of knowledge on the engine to know how to change anything or know what anything means

i couldn't even figure out how to get the invert camera Y setting in SOH to work smh

Nintendo is being amazed at how much good work gets done by THE FANS THEY SO EAGERLY POUND INTO SUBMISSION!

Really, they must be amazed at how much the Fandom does. But alas, they are unable to embrace those efforts and validate them for what they are: Amazing love letters to the games.

On another note, this is genius work.

Awesome news. Both dev teams are preserving a great Zelda entry. I agree that the UI does get cluttered, but these options are nice to explore and test.

I don't expect Nintendo to do anything, since they haven't for the original Ship of Harkinian or N64Recomp. Really, they would have acted by now on both teams. My understanding of Yuzu is that it included proprietary code/assets, but Ship of Harkinian and N64Recomp have the user provide the necessary files.

"with both the N64 1.0 and GameCube USA ROMs being supported"

I guess I'll wait for PAL support to get french language roms
I tried anyways just in case, indeed it doesn't work "crc not supported / doesn't match"

How is the original one a "minefield of options"? Every option is clearly explained, you can ignore the randomising stuff and just check the stuff you want. Recently started playing it on Switch and the QoL features are astonishing.

So whats the difference between this version and the recent recomp one that was shared like 2 weeks ago?

I assume the latter is easier to use, since I assume this SoH release will be just like the OOT one in terms of how confusing the naming conventions of the project are, and being forced to go through a shitty discord to find any downloads/resources

They are so amazed that they dmca everything that were made from fans. Except these two projects. If they could, they would take it down. And that's for sure.

That's most likely what it is going to become. Which is fine really, at least it will be different from the first decomp we had.

Indeed, I also think the first decomp is meant to be easier to use. Probably fewer options but also less geared towards speed runners and more towards people who want to play the OG game with some minor enhancements (like saving, and graphical)

Even tho I already had a save in the first decomp, I'm probably going to restart on this for the 2nd stick camera and other enhancements
