Ubisoft has today officially revealed the next installment in the Assassin's Creed franchise: Assassin's Creed Shadows. This entry is set in late Sengoku-era Japan and follows the story of two protagonists. The cinematic premier trailer aired today provides a glimpse at the setting:

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you will live the intertwined stories of Naoe, an adept shinobi Assassin from Iga Province, and Yasuke, the powerful African samurai of historical legend. Against the backdrop of the turbulent late Sengoku period, this remarkable duo will discover their common destiny as they usher in a new era for Japan. From chaos to purpose, from darkness to light. A new Creed rises over Japan.

Assassin's Creed Shadows is slated to launch this November 15 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

I loved AC1 (yes, the very old one). But even AC2 already killed me.
I can't really tell why. It didn't get me hooked.
While I love the open world in BotW and TotK, it's kinda overwhelming in the later AC games. It was more like "I have to play AC2 today to get through it" rather then "Man, I can't wait to play AC2!".
Somehow Ubisoft drops open world games each year without them being appealing at all. They don't know how to make the world interesting and give it magic. Maybe it's just me but Assassin's Creed is no longer for me.

"Open world" is the flavor of the week, you have to have "open world" because all your friends are doing it.
Every new game has to have an open world, crafting, and RPG elements / skill tree, no matter how little sense it makes.

Cool, another "Always Online" game they will kill in 10 years just like The Crew. Oh and they're already starting from the onset with wokeness & DEI galore (for funding, of course, gotta get that sweet BlackRock and Vanguard money, right Upissoft?) + microtransactions... Yeah, as is tradition for the past Assassins Creed games since Black Flag: PAAAAASSSS

Also, for those of you who wish to finally put an end to this nightmare with Ubisoft and other game developers killing games instead of helping preserve them, here: https://www.stopkillinggames.com/
I myself have already done all possible things on that list I can in my country, as I am someone who owned "The Crew". If you owned it, you should too. We can only change the gaming industry by legislating against this crap, and so every single oppositional force helps.

People act like they aren't always online anyway.
You're missing the point.

While we may "always" be online (even after death? that'd be creepy), when a publisher shuts down the servers the games become unplayable.

That's why I have no intention of ever buying GT7. Its offline mode is a demo... It'd either be that or a screen saying "Sorry, the servers have been shut down."

Couldn't finish Origins because of the grind the game asked, finished Odyssey (well, « finished », completed the main quest and it was anti-climatic as fuck) with xp cheats, never installed Valhalla as it looked uninteresting as hell
Not even going to comment on the protag choice ....

that is not the point... a game with single player will become unplayable when ubisoft shuts the servers in 3 -5 years. its ridiculous to make a game obsolete like that for no reason.this happen all the time like the crew, the division and so on, servers get shut down, game is unplayable even if you have it all installed on the hdd and didnt really need to be always online to work.

Ubisoft released Riders Republic and the offline mode is essentially just a demo.

I played that "Zen Mode" it was pretty boring.

So the options are:
A) Turn off the servers.
B) Offer a demo version for offline play.

Great!

LMAOOOO your that type of lad! p sure he was promoted historically.
Decendant of one of nobunaga's retainers says smth about the drama.
A game set in Japan featuring an African (from Mozambique) male servant/retainer than a Japanese male is just unfair and disrespectful to the Japanese. 😕

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yasuke

I remember people complaining Shōgun didn't have a Black samurai (guess they meant Yasuke), well, Ubisoft has granted their wish. They should buy the game now to show their support.

Its a shame the game requires internet to play it instead of just making it a 2 disc game. That and missions being locked behind a paywall.

Yeah...no. Origins was good, as it was the introduction of this new "RPG" style of AC, and it only really had one protagonist (Bayek), aside from the one-time switch to his wife's perspective (the worst part of the game by far, as she's a much less interesting character, and gameplay-wise she lacks many upgrades the player's unlocked for Bayek, so she's weaker than him - so what was the point in making her playable? Still don't get it; pointless).

Apparently, the original plan was to kill Bayek and have his wife be the player character mantle.

Remember kids, a Japanese-American born and raised in Detroit knows more about events hundreds of years in the past than professional historians and Japanese academics.

I played through some of the original AC and all of AC2. I guess the series never gelled with me because I didn't move onto the others. But, man were there sequels. I think the PS3/360 got at least seven games.

I think that's the problem. It's not an event. A new Dragon Quest comes out, and it's a big deal. A new Assassin's Creed comes out, and people say, "oh, another already?"

As long as fans are happy, I can't complain.

Yeah, but they also would prefer to be able to come back and play their games later. The fact that games have turned into a rented service is the problem. The fact that The Crew happened is why people don’t want always online games.

People will just pirate it the first chance they get.
