Delta emulator now available on the App Store for iOS

Delta-Beta-logo-main-631243875.png

The time has finally come, and after many, many years (if not decades) of Apple users having to side load emulator apps into their iOS devices through unofficial stores (like AltStore), emulators are finally a reality in the official Apple Store for iOS devices.

The Delta emulator, the successor to the original GBA4iOS emulator, has just been officially added today to the Apple Store for iOS, with the emulator supporting the following consoles from the get-go:
  • Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
  • Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES)
  • Nintendo 64
  • Game Boy
  • Game Boy Color
  • Game Boy Advance
  • Nintendo DS
The emulator also includes a wide variety of features expected from an emulator nowadays, like cheat support, save states, fast forward, controller support like Nintendo's JoyCons and Pro Cotrollers, Xbox One/Series and PlayStation 4/5 controllers (through Bluetooth), local multiplayer with up to 4 players at the same time, and even a featured called "Delta Sync", which syncs game data (saves, save states, cheats, etc.) between several devices, relying on Google Drive and Dropbox for the cloud service.

It's important to note that at the time of writing, Delta is currently not supported for iPad devices, and worse yet, Delta is unavailable in the EU, with the only option of getting Delta on iOS devices in the EU is through the AltStore.

don't need to persuade android is better and has no restrictions you can do whatever you want unlike the crapple restricted garbage.

Hate to be this guy, but Android is going the route of Apple, and if you are involved in the custom ROM scene at all you would have a lot of first-hand experience with this recently. Fun fact: Google has begun restricting access to RCS based on Play Integrity status. Before it was used for banking apps, which makes sense, but a basic texting app? On top of this, bootloader unlocking is on the chopping block on every carrier at this point. Even seeing reports of T-Mobile restricting bootloader on paid-off devices, including Pixel series.

Yeah this sucks. They've blocked access to the Android/Data folder where a lot of games store their files. I had it setup so that all my emulators saves were synced between my phone, PC, and laptop, but now I can't play my games on my phone anymore

Yes, your assertion is correct: Google has been at it for years, tamping down on exploits w/in the AOSP OS in which devs would discover and take advantage of in order to enable functionality w/in the OS that it wasn't designed for ever since Android 10/11 IIRC. There was Play Protect, followed by SafetyNet and Play Integrity validation and even though my phone(s) is rooted (via Magisk), I'm still forced to install modules w/in Magisk and w/in LSPosed Xposed Framework to restore and/or enable desired customized functionality according to my preference, but it can only go so far.

The following XDA forum links happen to go into detail a/b it:

don't need to persuade android is better and has no restrictions you can do whatever you want unlike the crapple restricted garbage. the ONLY reason iphones are so popular is because of conformity! yeah well you know what I am not a sheep I can think for myself which seems to be people these days are losing that ability!
As a person that likes no restrictions you sure mind what other people's choice or preference on their phone are.

You think your phone is better? Good. I have my opinion on why my phone is good. No need to bash others or force other people to agree with your opinion.

Just to give you a scenario - I am living in Asia and a lot of bank accounts have been hacked due to Android sideloading, with people sideloading app with too much permission, essentially the malicious app is able to perform credential theft plus reroute the mfa message to the attacker. You might argue that it all comes down to user, but that's exactly why some people chose an iPhone - they don't want to/are lazy to tweak and you should respect their choice. In no way I am saying this attack is not possible on iOS, but at least the attack vector is smaller when compared to Android when enabling sideloading is just a click of a button.

So peace out, enjoy your phone and let others enjoy theirs. Cheers.

There is but it was a patreon exclusive feature

I don’t mind spending a few $$ for proper iPad support I just hated the patreon approach on top of needing to be sideloaded

So why is this stuff unavailable in the EU anyway? Legal reasons?
Just my hypothesis but I think it has something to do with the mandates for third party marketplaces in the EU. I believe Apple's mindset is 'okay. If 3rd party app stores are required. We'll keep our stringent rules and make all the "undesirables" go to third party stores. Everywhere else, we're not forced to have third party app stores so to keep that the case, let's relax a little on the rules so regulators don't come knocking'. You can get Delta in the EU. You just have to use AltStore to get it.

Unfortunately disposable single use CC numbers aren't working (Revolut for me:)
Your card does not support this type of purchase.
I only like to pay once at a time not subscribing. Bummer

For NDS cheat in Delta.

Anyone know of a way to import cheat databases?

Basically I have a nds cheat database all ready to go but I don’t know if there’s a way to import it.

- I have tried import cheat db into Delta phone folder but seems not working
- I have tried manually enter cheat for 1game and it seems not work as well

Is Delta really legit? I’m afraid of installing shady apps on my phone. Will it be like Gridlee and be pulled soon? You can never redownload that either. Also why is Testut taking donations? Wouldn’t that expose itself legally to Nintendo?

It’s almost impossible to install a shady fake app with apple. Especially with the $100 dev license (and Mac requirement) to even submit for approval to the App Store

It's legit, it's existed for many many years (think I was using it all the way back in 2016) but you originally had to sideload it, whether by jailbreaking or using a fairly limited workaround. Now you can just download it from the App Store so it's way more accessible.

It's basically a collection of emulators wrapped up with a nice interface. Think Retroarch but with fewer features and a much nicer UI.

Incredible. N64 games on your iPhone, approved by Apple through the App Store. What a time to be alive.

Well not almost impossible, though very hard. AltStore for example, but it's a pain connecting it to your Mac every week to resign the stuff or whatever. Setting it up in the first place is a pain. Glad we can finally kick all that to the curb.

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
