I think I accidently bricked my Wii.
I installed preloader earlier then tried to remove it, Well by installing the "SystemMenu-v289.wad" I downloaded it said it installed, then the wad manager couldn't restart my wii when I was done, When I tried it manually I just got a blank screen. And every time I try to go to the wii it just is a black screen, BootMii isn't restoring it right but I can get to the homebrew channel just fine. Can someone help me un-brick it?

EDIT: Forgot to mention, NTSC console with 4.0u firmware (

I think what your problem is, is that you installed System Menu v289 which is version 3.2U,
So what you need to do is get the wad for System Menu 4.0U and install it:

- Get NUS Downloader
- Enter 0000000100000002 and v417 into the two boxes in NUS Downloader
- Tick "Pack -> WAD"
- Click "Start NUS Download!"

*Now you have a wad for System Menu 4.0U*

- Boot WAD Manager and Install this wad
- Your System Menu should boot again

Then If you want preloader completely removed, use NANDClean

Well I won't use that guide on removing preloader again... Well I won't have to but not the point.

It wasn't downloading it >_<
(Also btw, why does it have a DSi mode too?)

Well obviously I'm still working on unbricking my wii first. And I thought reinstalling the system menu was what completely removed preloader...

No, it downloaded and wad manager couldn't run it.

Does anyone have a working wad of the 4.0u system menu they can help me get?
So you had it set up like this?:

And then you grabbed the .wad file out of the "0000000100000002v417" folder NUS Downloader created?

If you've done all that right and it still didn't work just google for "SystemMenu-v417.wad"

Thats exactly how it was, and it didn't get it.

Yep. Didn't work.

That did work. I had to re-install my darkwii theme but hey, a minor inconvenience compared to not having a system menu at all

That Preloader unistall guide bricked you Wii because it was meant for 3.2, not 4.0 like you have. Always double check what version a guide is meant for because it can really screw you over sometimes.

I semi bricked with 4.0E for a U region system. If I have the 4.0U menu WAD what else do I go about doing to install it onto my system? Are there any other files/programs needed or do I just burn that WAD to a disc and pop it in?

I'm running a CycloDS chip.

Why not they just mine Monero instead of scamming vulnerable people? If they have a decent machine they can hit a jackpot at any given time.

Technically, cryptocurrencies aren't illegal, as long as you don't use it for criminal activity. If you sign up with an exchange, and that they get a tip from law enforcement, they have the right to freeze your assets.

Nigeria's central bank did make crypto illegal before, until last year they lifted the ban. Always make sure to check before you exchange. ;)

@SylverReZ, speaking of crypto i remember reading about a guy who spend like 10 grand bitcoin on a couple pizzas (when bitcoin wasnt as worthy as nowadays)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's mental. If he had saved up when Bitcoin sky-rocketed in price, then he might've become the next Jeff Bezos for all I know.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, he couldnt know the price was gonna skyrocket anyway
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Then it dropped sometime in 2022, 2021 was when it really went up in price.

@Xdqwerty, I remember that. Didn't Steam ban games with NFTs before somehow devs managed to circumvent it? Think EA tried to dabble in NFTs too.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Glad to hear people realise that NFTs aren't worth it these days. They realise that they're JPEGs hosted on a file-hosting site like AWS or Google Drive.
