Tin foil has been a ball ache to get working, so i listened to the advice on here
ive got tin woo installer and it is actually one app that works on the switch!!!

what im struggling to understand is how exactly does one go about getting downloaded games to work on the modded switch?

(the wii u mod was easy as it had a lovely PC app)

Think im managing to get somewhere…
Downloading some .nsz files online

And going to use tin woo installer
However, im reading a lot of things about patchers and signatures

I got a feeling that these games wont work

Whats the general method to get them working then? I dont understand the role of a signAture and or patch

Let see, FS/Loader Patches allow you to run modified/unsigned ncas, basically unsigned homebrew such as homebrew NSP, es patches allow you to run modified/fake ticket.

If Tinfoil shops doesn't work then your other source would be getting games online, don't asks where to get them, it is against forum policy to asks.

It is just drag and drop, you just need to put in the correct folder, the es patches goes inside atmosphere/exefs_patches/es folder, and the fs and loader patches goes inside atmosphere/kips_patches/fs_patches and atmosphere/kips_patches/loader_patches folder.

ok thanks

i have managed to install a few games now via a combination of a rather convoluted way of downloading the game to my pc + tinfoil

but it does remain a massive mystery how there are images plastered all over the net for the tin foil GUI with lots of games on there. personally I struggled to get that to work

my best shot so far relies on the use of a google drive, im guessing thats prob the best way in september 2022 to install the games on a modded switch

It is easier if tinfoil shops are working, otherwise your have to source them manually.

That is correct. Only need the last update. Update are firmware version dependant.

I thought PS4/5 and Xbox One emulation would be kind of easy since they basically just a PC
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
    they sorta are a pc
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They haslve dedicated on board chips that aren't tweaked like x64/x32 afaik
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
but its a custom os for both of them

    designed for only specific hardware
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
so you have to learn to emulate that specific hardware which isn't as easy as you'd think

It's a locked down Linux distro basically
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think the only custom hardware is to do with the SSD and a security chip
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Probably combined in one chip

They place married security chips onto boards iirc

Didn't see much need for a console, all the advantages have kind of disappeared
  • ColdBlitz @ ColdBlitz:
the ps3 used to support installing linux because the cpu was so powerful
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Then the games are $70 and they want to reboot and refresh the same game every year
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
The ps3 was always Linux they just found a way to make it open source

I'm avoiding buying from the big 3 at all atm

At one point PC game pads where poorly supported, loading a game had setup, it was complicated. Now it's almost as easy as a console.
