Hello everyone!
So about a year ago I got my Series S and I've been enjoying it so much!
I was thinking about an upgrade to the Xbox Series X, but then I also wanted to play some Playstation exclusives.
Would it be a good idea to buy a PS5 alongside my Series S just to play Playstation exclusives?

Yeah, if you have a Series S already I think the PlayStation 5 would absolutely be your best choice. You really don't gain much with the Series X outside of physical games and graphical fidelity.

How does backwards compatibility work on Playstation?

PS4 games work as PS4 games. Some games let you upgrade to PS5 versions, but not all do, and not all are free.
Nothing prior to the PS4 is backwards compatible, though some older stuff will be on their new PS+ coming out next month.

So all PS4 games(digital/disc) work, but some of them can upgrade to PS5 versions.
Looks like backwards compatibility is another story on Sony's side!

Yup, it's not 100% like Microsoft's, no PS3 games or anything, but 99.9% of PS4 games work. I think like, <10 games out of 4000 don't work.

Too bad there aren't any PS3 games. I wanted to play Arkham origins on the newer systems, But the only next gen system that you can play it on is the Series X.
Well, guess I'm holding onto my 360! That's the only place you can play games like Arkham Origins.
What are your suggestions on Playstation exclusives for new players like me? I've heard Playstation has some fun exclusives!

Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Until Dawn, Marvels Spider-man, Demon Souls, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodbourne. There's a BUNCH. Imo a person can't go wrong with the majority of PS exclusives.

I've heard rumors about Microsoft making an external disc drive for the Series S. Based on the rumors, how it works is that you put your disc in, and it downloads the digital version of that game for you.

Honestly if they end up doing that the Series S might end up being much more of a worthwhile purchase IMO. The $300 price point is pretty appealing as is, and I've seen it go on sale for cheaper at some points.

Xbox has microsoft rewards where you can earn points everyday and save them up to buy games, dlc, and gift cards for free. I don't think sony has something like that.

depends on if you want dev mode, themes, bc for most games as far back as the xbox. though, I do prefer the playstation 5, mostly due to some really frustrating bugs with the series x (the coming back from rest mode ones). right now, I usually buy series x exclusive games on the series x, and almost everything else on the ps5 or switch.

btw, the series x does have upgrades for games (probably more than the ps5 even). for example, final fantasy xiii, a ps3/360 game) is in 4K on the series x.
yall have to take into consideration he said he already owns a Series S, which means he can already do most of those things one way or another- the ps5'd likely offer more new to him, vs disc support and a mild upgrade to performance

oh, I didn't see that. yeah, I'd go with a playstation 5, but with the series s, get a monitor for it to play retroarch. I think that's what my friend @Hayato213 did, and he owns both the series s and x. I think he bought the series s for that reason alone.

I tested banjo kazooie on the series x again, coming back from rest mode. it still has the same problem, no sound. it happens randomly when coming back from rest mode. the series x sound effects work, just not the in game sound. it's frustrating too. it's the only game I have that does this. also, the cloud saving box that pops up every time you come back on a 360 game is intrusive. series x games do not have this problem.

Have you tried Tooie? Or the Rare Replay version?
