If AIO works for you then there’s no need to change. I’ve had good experience with AIO as well but have seen people get in bad situations because they didn’t understand what was going on under the bonnet. Most recently I’ve been updating manually because I’m almost as fast and feel I have better control of the steps, can test each step and stop if things get weird.

Personally I’m pretty slow to adopt the latest and greatest. Each release fixes thing and occasionally breaks things. There are many homebrew apps that no longer work as libnx got updated and the devs didn’t update, making them incompatible. Some I’ve been able to tweak and recompile but others require a complete rewrite and thus remain broken. I stayed on 1.2.3 for a long time because 1.2.4 broke SoundNX (and I loved having my joycons make lightsaber noises when I added/removed them). I eventually ran into some things that pushed me to 1.2.6 and I rationalized it by saying I only did the add/remove thing to show other people my custom sounds and otherwise had no real compelling reason to be mucking with my joycons. These days I only update if there‘s a specific new feature I must have or a game that won’t run on my current version.

Yeah since I know AIO works, I reckon I'll continue using this method going forward. That being said, I totally get why you would prefer doing things manually. Oh.. and since I shit a brick when I thought my entire Switch had went black when I updated the Firmware without totally understanding what the hell I was doing, I can now see why it's worth buying an additional SD Card and copying everything over every 2 weeks or so. If shit hits the fan, like you said previously, it's as simple as swapping SD Cards. At worst, you'll only lose 2 weeks worth of data, rather than absolutely everything.

OK it sounds like updating isn't always a great concern. Not immediately anyway. For whatever reason, I thought if you don't update everything, you're games may struggle to load properly, and that would really SUCK! From what you're telling me though, that doesn't sound like the case which is good to know.

Also, I just wanted to give you a big shout out @binkinator. Between your help and the Rentry guide, I've managed to get everything up and running. In fact, a longer HDMI cable arrived in the post today, so I got the Dock up and running and synced up my new Switch Pro controller. Everything is running sweet as a nut. It's awesome that you can put your Switch into sleep mode too rather than having to boot up each and every time using the RCM Loader. That way, I can keep the Switch docked for the majority of the time, unless I feel like travelling or playing the Switch while laying in bed.

Thanks again for all your help. Without your assistance, I'm convinced getting everything set up would have been a far more difficult task. Instead, it's been a pretty smooth journey, and I'm buzzing now that I've got it all worked.:bow::bow:

Thanks @binkinator. You're doing gods work here! Right.. time to sit my ass down on the couch and play the Switch docked! :yayswitch: :grog:

‘The second cable I posted would look and work just like that…maybe even a little cleaner because it doesn’t have the adapter and everything is built into one piece.

‘The first option would do it as well but has more of a Dock feel to it.
Thanks for reply @binkinator ,then i need this for the smartphone right? SmartSelect_20220305-194547_Amazon Shopping.jpg

I never said save data could be transferred from emuMMC to sysMMC. The reverse is possible (from sysMMC to emuMMC) by remaking emuMMC since emuMMC is initally just a copy of sysMMC but without going online or using homebrew on sysMMC, there is no way to move saves out of emuMMC and into sysMMC.

I always recommend this guide to all users as it was one of the first.

I would highly recommend NOT using the AIO Switch Updater. Yes, it does look like the perfect tool if it actually performed its functions without a hitch which it doesn't always do. Many users have issues after using it which is to be expected of a tool that automates a process, a process that can easily change from one CFW version to another. Maybe you haven't had an issue now but eventually, it may happen. And when it does, you will need to update your files manually so might as well build the habit now.

Anyways, there are different times when you update CFW versus firmware. There are no downsides to updating your CFW so you could theoretically always update your CFW whenever a new version of that releases but that could be tedious. The other time you would normally update CFW is when you update your firmware. As for when to update your firmware, that is only when a game or other type of content (e.g. update or DLC) requires a higher firmware in order to launch. Generally, newer content requires higher firmware versions but they may still work on older firmware versions. What I would at least recommend is to not immediately jump to the latest firmware if a new firmware version is released since homebrew & CFW are not always updated concurrently.
ahh, it must have been someone else who suggested it was possible, i did think it would be an issue as it would require exposing the CFW to nintendo .

Oh well, at least the one game i actually care about is almost fully unlocked but the legitimate way and backed up to the cloud so i will transfer that to the V2 before i hack the V1

Only if your smartphone had HDMI in like this one from Sony:

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/01/sony-adds-hdmi-to-last-years-android-phone-charges-2500/

VERY expensive BTW because it’s the first of it’s kind with video in.

Looks like they are doing a USB capture card on the phone end. If you have Android then this would convert the HDMI signal back to USB C…I’d be really curious to just try throwing a straight USB to USB cable and see if it works. Rather than 2 dongles and an HDMI cable.

aaaaaaand this is why you can’t do usb c out to usb c in from the Switch to a Phone

tadah!

👌 @binkinator ,but i would also need male hdmi with usb c to connect to the smartphone in order to connect it to the one in your screenshot.

There are 3 pieces to buy (two adapters and one cable) and they would connect like this:

[Switch] —> [USB-C to HDMI]<—-HDMI Cable—> [HDMI Vid-Cap2USB-C]—->[Android]

Hi guys, i have a little problem.
After not updating my Switch Atmosphere and Hekate files for like 8-9 months (or even more) i tried today to replace them (since by injecting with TegraRcmGUI the new "hekate_ctcaer_5.7.0.bin" file the Switch told me "Old Nyx GUI found! There will be dragons! Update the bootloader folder!") and now i get a blue screen every time i try to enter EmuMMC.
I simply dragged the content of the new Atmosphere zip (so "atmosphere" folder, "switch" folder and hbmenu.nro) plus the new Hekate/Nyx zip (so the "bootloader" folder basically). I put everything in the right folders, like i usually do. But i do it so rarely that i sometimes forget the exact procedure... I suspect this might be the case
If i forgot something or if there are some files i need to replace/delete please tell me!
Thank you in advance

I'd recommend deleting the /atmosphere folder on your SD card then placing the new onto your SD card.
Hello all....
I was wondering if there was a way to send xci and nsp files to my switch usb hdd over the lan?
It seems TinWoo Installer is capable of doing that if you use a companion tool such as NS-USBLoader.

OLED Switch seems to have lots of differences when modding / setting up cfw. I couldnt find a guide or tutorial specifically designed for oled switches. Anyone knows one? Also do mariko & aula switches need a jig or only the v1? Or was it the other way around.

Ok, i did it and now when i enter EmuMMC i get:

"Error while loading fss0:
atmosphere/fusee-secondary.bin
Wrong ini cfg or missing/corrupt files!

Failed to launch HOS!"

Which ini cfg do it mean? Or maybe it's because by deleting the old "atmosphere" folder and adding the updated one there is no fusee-secondary.bin?

V3 (Aula) follows the same instructions as V2 (Mariko) as far as CFW is concerned. They both use the Modchip glitching method vs V1 (Erista) which is the only one that uses RCM/Jig.

Any decent guide that covers Mariko will work: https://rentry.org/SwitchHackingIsEasy

Sup everyone, a total noob here (I don't even own a switch). So I need to extract game assets from .nsp file which I downloaded from internet. Is it possible to do it? Or do I need some certain keys from certain Switch this game was dumped from?

just follow a good guide to get set up, download and install an installer such as DBI, Tinfoil or Tinwoo and you’ll be all set.

In one of the recent changes to Atmosphere, fusee-secondary.bin was renamed to package3. The ini file it is referring to is your hekate_ipl.ini file located within the /bootloader folder. Simply rename all instances of fusee-secondary.bin in that file to package3.

Hi Everyone, only just registered (sorry to ask this half way through a thread).

So i've already hacked my switch a few years back. 2018 in fact. I used the executor loader to put the custom firmware on my first issue switch and my issue is, i've given my son my switch which is what i intended to do all along (he's 4 and he is loving it). My firmware is on 6.1.0 (don't laugh).

Basically, the only game in my collection that won't run (since i hacked it), is Mario Odyssey, which i have the actual game for. Not sure why, but it wants to download software for it to run (always kept in airplane mode). I may have used a different SD card and it know longer locates the required data maybe, who knows...but my questions are these:

1. I've forgotten how to update custom firmware on the xecuter SX Pro CFW launcher screen - can anyone help? do i dump the updated firmware on the card and launch it via EmuNAND? or NAND? or Payloads??
2. Can i go from 6.1.0 to say 11.0.x without the need for incremental firmware updates? (I ask this, because im sure this was something back in the day, which is why i just sat on what i had).
3. where do i get the firmware file from??

Im hoping its just something i can put on the SD card are use the launcher to update and thats it...or am i being too naive?

I've read that the team were arrested etc and everyone seems to be jumping over to atmosphere?? I mean, im quite happy to max out to whatever firmware thats supported on the xecuter sx pro.

Thanks, and apologies if this is mentioned somewhere and i've missed it, i just don't want to brick my switch.

  1. Well updating CFW is as simple as downloading the latest version of SX OS from the website but since TX is dead now, that is currently impossible so your best bet would be to switch to Atmosphere
  2. Why would you ever need to do incremental updates? Do you think legitimate firmware updates take you through each individual firmware?
  3. Firmware files are copyrighted material so you cannot ask for those on this site

1. I was hoping to stay on something so simple to use and to be honest, it does 99% of the catalogue i own, so happy to stick with it. I know i will eventually migrate over to atmosphere (but maybe in another 4 years lol).
2. It may have been a hangover from the PSP days, where you had to update to a certain firmware, before you could make such a large leap. There were ...i wouldn't say concerns, more of unknowns back on dark umbra 4 years ago thats all.. If that doesn't apply, then thats at least some good news.
3. Ahh - my bad, apologies Mods.

I do have a copy i got hold of, of SX OS CFW 3.1.0 - will that contain the firmware update do you know? If so, how would i load that? Dump and run on the card?

Thanks for your reply btw.
