New patch notes explain what will be in the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl day 1 update

pokemon-brilliant-diamond-shining-pearl-battle.jpg

As previously noted in yesterday's thread, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shinning Pearl are due to get a day 1 update, and a major one, at that. After remaining a mystery for a short while, the official Pokemon website has detailed what exactly version 1.1.0 will bring to the table. It'll be adding online and local multiplayer for the Super Contests, Union Room, and Grand Underground, post-game content including the new Ramanas Park, and the addition of cutscenes, which means there will now be a title screen and credits animation.

The 1.1.0 patch will be available tomorrow, on November 11th, prior to the release of the game, meaning those with early copies may still be able to experience the full game before the November 19th launch date.

That won't be the only content update, either. There will be yet another patch slated sometime after the launch of the game as well. The only things we currently know about that update is that it will allow for more than two players at once in the Union Room, access to the GWS, and a Pokemon Center Colosseum.

  • Addition of Grand Underground, Super Contest Show, Union Room and Mystery Gift communication features
You will be able to enjoy local and online communication features of the Grand Underground, Super Contest Show and Union Room. Additionally, you will also become able to receive gifts using the Mystery Gift feature.
  • Addition of content after entering the Hall of Fame
Some content that becomes playable after entering the Hall of Fame, including Ramanas Park, will be added in the update.
    • Note: even if you have already entered the Hall of Fame before downloading the update, downloading it will allow you to play the additional content.
  • Addition of some in-game cutscenes and animations
Some in-game cutscenes and animations will be added in the update, including the game’s ending cutscene and the title screen animation that is played when opening the software.
    • Note: you can view the title screen animation by starting up the software with existing save data and with the update installed. Even if you have already entered the Hall of Fame before the update is installed, you can view the ending cutscene by entering the Hall of Fame again afterwards.
  • Other adjustments and corrections were made to improve the gameplay experience.
  • Regarding a planned update after release
On the release date for the software, up to two players will be able to interact in local and online play in the Union Room, and you will be able to select the “Battle”, “Trade” and “Mix Records” functions. In an update that will be made available after the software releases, the maximum number of players will be increased, and the “Greeting” and “Capsule Decoration” functions will become available.
Additionally, trading using the GWS in Jubilife City and the use of the Colosseum feature inside Pokémon Centers will also be added in a post-release update.

Never owned them. The starting point is overwhelming for someone who hasn't played one in years. Too many Pokémon games.

Don't know about that. They all feel so low-effort.
Not really, the games are all made to be easily picked up by a young kid.

You can beat most of the games by mashing the A button and moving around enough. It's why twitch plays pokemon works - eventually even random movement will beat these games.

And also if you do want to pick up a pokemon game, go for HGSS as they are clearly the best in the series by far. The music is excellent as well.

Interesting there's no mention of music after everything that's been said about v1.0.0. I guess it could fall under the general improvements mentioned but it seems significant enough for its own point.

HGSS?

Every Pokemon game I have played had better music

This music actually is grating

Lmao Im with you on this one music suck.

This patch moreso sounds like they anticipated a "leak" and didn't include everything. Not so much due to a crunch.
Idk, doesn't make a lot of sense.

Some people will never get the patch for one reason or another. They have to make the game cartridge itself a self-contained game.

I think they were in a time crunch for christmas - with supply lines as backed up as they are, they probably had to release whatever they had on the cart at least 3 months ago.

The main argument against the patch being to deter pirates is that the patch is still releasing 10 days before the game - meaning the pirates will still get to play the game early. The game only leaked yesterday - meaning the pirates will only have to deal with the unfinished game for 2 days.

So, they choose to exclude parts of the game? If the patch is ready prior to release, then THAT doesn't make sense. It's not like the patch was just finished. I didn't say it was to deter pirates, either. Obviously it was going to be leaked. Seems to be the norm.

The patch is being released because tomorrow is the day you can start preloading the game - also likely for reviewers.

Also, I think the patch was in fact likely finished recently. No reason to think it wasn't. This game was clearly rushed.

I guess. Thinking about the previous releases, it makes sense for the game to be in this state.

The game out of the box is pretty much unfinished, with no title screen and placeholder music for example.

The day one patch is 3GB, so even that technically it do not require internet to play, in reality it does.

Also, it seems that they are delivering a rushed game again, we will know if it is the case soon enough.

Anyway, the thing is already downloading on my alternative store, apart of download links, fell free to ask me anything if you can't download the game yourself by now.

Lmao.
How do you get overwhelmed by pokemon?
From your replies it sounds like you didn't even play BW HGSS so don't be so cocky and talk like Pokemon games never had any good music

I find it fascinating that we get people complaining about the state of a game while they go out of their way to pirate a prerelease.

And if you complain about the concept of a patch... it's been a thing for over a decade at this point, it offers a lot of flexibility that if devs didn't have would simply mean that you would have had to wait a few more month before pirating their games.

Can't have your cake and eat it too.

Does suck for the few people who might buy this game 20 years down the road when the nintendo servers are offline - and all they will have if they play legit is this unpatched mess

Never played a Pokémon game that had good music.

The Black/White OST sure hits different. Might be worth a look, also for the well-presented plot. Other than that I could not name one particular generation that had exceptional music.
To attest to gen 5 music

It does suck, but not because games receive patches. Patches are GOOD. Without patches we wouldn't have Banjo in Smash lol. The problem is not patches nor day 1 patches, it's how the industry deal with long term ownership of digital licenses, for which there is absolutely something that needs to be done.
... but a specific game shouldn't be held responsible for it.

Also, who are we kidding? The people pirating the game now have ways of backing it up while including the day 1 patch in their backup. They won't lose the game. This only affects legit customers.

------

Also separated comment about the Pokemon music. It's highly regarded as one of the best in JRPG music. Diamond/Pearl OST sells for over $250 on Ebay, just as an FYI.

I am more upset about rushed schedules but I guess that's the future. I miss when games released when they were ready.

I REALLY hope they change the midi music.
Like seriously what is this.
Pokémon has a 85 BILLION net worth but why does this feel like a goddamn indie or buget triple a game (which it most certainly is)

Keep destroying the brand like this and someday people will just have enough

Damn, they did it. I´m excited.
It's sad they didn't mention anything about the music, because at least the trainer battle theme sounds extremely bad, but well... at lest it won't feel oddly incomplete anymore.
