Homebrew Is it normal for my "new" 3ds xl to be losing charge after not using it after installing Luma?

Dumb question but has anyone else had this happen? My 3ds never lost charge before HBing it, but after doing so it starts to drain the battery when the system is fully shutdown. I thought was just the battery being old (the since launch one, it being about 3/4 years old after constant use) got one from the Nintendo online store about a month ago. I checked to see and it showed 80% in the Rosalina menu a 2 weeks ago and just now I checked and its at 73% on a new battery after not being touched in 2 weeks. My old battery would be fine but randomly it would drain from fully charge to dead the next day over night after I HB'd it. It also has a weird ui bug/glitch where it will be at 40% in the RM but the main menu ui shows a full battery. Thinking I messed up on something but have nc as to what it could be.

Is it possible it drained the same and you just didn't notice it since you didn't have access to battery percentages? 73% looks exactly the same as 100% from the standard UI.
forgive if I say ask/something dumb (haven't sleep after work) but isn't it supposed to be different if its at 73% of 100? bc that's over 1/4th of the battery gone. Wouldn't the ui also follow suite and display 3/4th or is it something that has always been like this but I've never noticed? it drained 7% from not being used for 2 weeks after it was on 80% even then I tried a test to where it was 83% then charged it to 100 and it dropped while not being used. I'm tired as hell and could be misinterpreting the reply (happens more than I'd like to admit). sorry about the edits I've noticed to many sentences where I thought I typed but didn't

It's a fair assumption but having Luma installed shouldn't have an impact on the battery display image, so the screenshot you shared should be accurate for a non-Luma 3DS in that respect. I'd put my money on the 3DS UI just being odd.

The battery percentage on 3DS systems is basically a voltage meter. It doesn't have a coulomb counter (energy meter). Percentage varying a bit after leaving it untouched is expected. I've had a strange error(?) once – never happened again: From a full battery it went to 3% flashing red in half an hour of playing. Removing and reinserting the battery made it go above 90% again.
I've never heard of a 3DS draining the battery when not in use (like in empty after a few weeks – which the Wii U Gamepad does). Li-ion self-discharge is pretty moderate so an often read advise for devices not being used is to store them at about 50%-60% charge and check every half year.

A 3DS is completely off when shutting down the OS – CFW does not change this. The only thing still on after shutdown is the clock and it's energy need should be below the self discharge of a rechargeable battery of that size.

As for the symbol on the top screen: It is ridiculous and useless.

It makes no sense whatsoever.

tbh I'm a tad paranoid about my 3ds failing, was gonna get another and HB it but looking for one in a great condition is bs, I'll pay 300 at most for n3dsxl but no where near the 69k or any nearing a 1k on eBay. so I've been buying parts to repair it, Already had to fix my R button getting stuck then that somehow messed up my camera to where if it was active or something was going to use it it would give a error and crash and now I'm gonna have to replace the d-pad bc it it keeps ghosting inputs

Do you have a flash cart? When I had battery issues with my 3DS and thought it was due to CFW I did some research and found out it was because of the constant battery drain from using a flash cart.
Update to latest Luma and/or remove the cartridge. A inserted cartridge consume a lot of juice even if you are not running the game
Sorry been busy with work, I don't have a flash cart, so that was ruled out pretty quick

It may say in Rosalina 73% but notice that the home menu is reporting the battery as full. If your console wasn't hacked you'd be thinking your battery was full even though it isn't. That makes me think that the battery is operating normally, and you've just become acutely aware of the battery level now that you have a more accurate indicator of it.

Battery indicators often lie about the exact battery level for the same reason car fuel gauges lie about how much fuel you have left. They'll keep indicating full for a while after a charge/refill because people don't like to see their battery level/fuel start dropping immediately when they just charged/refilled.
Unlike fuel measurement though battery level measurement isn't precise, far from it, and it gets less precise with a worn battery, so you can't trust an exact battery % indicator.
A battery indicator with 4 bars like that probably doesn't have the indicators set to 0-25/25-50/50-75/75-100 like you might assume. They might be set to 0-10/10-25/25-50/50-100 and in fact something like that is far more common. In a way it's more helpful because you know when your battery gets down to one bar and red, it's time to plug in the charger ASAP or save your game or risk losing progress. And most people wait to charge until the battery gets low anyway so not being able to see that you might've drained nearly half the battery already isn't a huge deal.

left my 3ds on for about 5 days and yeah it showed 2/4ths of the battery left in the gui and in rosa its was 12% now its 9% and red

Hi, I'm having the same issues since I installed a CF in my 3ds (new XL model). I can play for hours normally but the battery completely drains from 100% to almost die, while the 3DS is turned off overnight. I dont have any cartridge on it.. I know that the system drains the battery little by little to keep the clock but this is really not normal and I have tried two new batteries. I also have the wifi/conection off. I am not sure if maybe some custom program or emulator can be running in the background even when the console is completly off...
