When I'm in the d2xx cIOS Installer (v3.1) IOS: 58 v6176, going through the following steps, the modification of slot 251 always fails, consequently I can't get any games to play in usb loader, they just go back to home brew screen. Has anyone ever seen this step fail? I get a red fail status and it after in aborts during the installing of that map spot.

Select cIOS: v10 beta52 d2x-v10-beta52
Select cIOS base: 57
Select cIOS slot: 249
Select cIOS version: 65535

Select cIOS: v10 beta52 d2x-v10-beta52

Select cIOS: v10 beta52 d2x-v10-beta52
Select cIOS base: 58
Select cIOS slot: 251 <== this one fails ...
Select cIOS version: 65535

I installed my homebrew using letterbomb

Your 249 and 250 can play 99% of games, in fact there is only 1 game that your 251 base 58 supports that the other 2 do not (SpongeBob's Boating bash).

251 with base 38 is preferred over base 58 as it too works with Boating bash but also provides USB keyboard support for animal crossing. So really you should be trying to install base 38 to slot 251 (as recommended by modmii and wii.guide)

This CIOS isn't necessary for the vast majority of games, so u can just ignore it unless u care about the 2 games I mentioned.

If u still cannot get the cios installer to work, you can use ModMii to construct the cios's in wad format, then install them using a wad manager

It let me modify 251 with base 38, but when I run games it still exits USB Loader GX and goes back to home brew menu. Do I need to try to uninstall everything and install again?

GX uses 249 by default, your 251 is probably not even at play here unless you deviating away from default settings.

So this is what I suggest you do...

post a syscheck and\or use modmii to analyze your syscheck

make sure you are using the latest version of your loader, for GX that's blackb0x's v5 mod, download it from his signature or by using ModMii

if you still encounter issues, make sure you try a different game and a different HDD, but report back here what game it is, some games require unique work arounds, like a kirby game that has metafortress security or something like that for example

When exactly comes the Error please ?

- during the File Download or after that ?

I have tried a Moment ago with your Settings for Slot 251 and all seems ok.

Thank you.:)

It exits out of the installation into 58 and shows a red box stating failed. So I did as suggested and installed into 38 instead. But I still can't get anything to load. They just exit out to the home brew or wii menu if I run from there.

what version of GX are you using? and what game(s) have you tried? What is the format of your HDD?

It's a fat32 formated 32 gig drive, USB Loader v 3.1.1.1278

wii sports, wii resort, and mario cart

can you point me to a good wbfs just to make sure?

Update your loader to this:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/usb-loader-gx.149922/page-1316#post-8856063

And compatibility with thumb drives is relatively poor, try a different drive, also make sure it's plugged into port0, the one nearest the edge of the Wii. And maybe try cfg usb loader or wiiflow (get the latest versions from ModMii)

edit: sorry no sharing of games here on this forum. But for your testing try wii sports or mario kart, sports resort test after u get the others working (as it may require u to watch the motion+ video if you haven't already)

Tried the usb loader gx in that thread. That wouldn't load anything either.

Modmii.github.io

Modmii will build u a custom guide that includes a link to a usb HDD compatibility list if setting up a USB loader. Generally seagate and western digital are good. The wii isn't capable of USB 3 speeds, so usb 2 is fine. I actually find some usb3.0 hdd's, while faster on PCs, are often slower to initially power up when used in the wii, so I like to say newer and faster isn't necessarily better for the wii

It's difficult to find anything that old and usb 2.0. The one I ordered I think is a usb 3.0 hdd. Maybe I should cancel the order?

Is there a difference between that github modmii and this sourceforge one?
https://sourceforge.net/projects/modmii/

This one on source forge actually looks like your project ;-)

They're both mine, I just switched to github

We use gitlab hosted in house, all the cicd and cloud formation tools all integrated in.

I noticed you made updates to the sourceforge projects as recent as yesterday.

I was planning on doing 1 final update to sourceforge so that it would be pointed to github for updates going forward. I ended up doing an extra one so old versions would update to the latest without having to update to a version in between first.

I will probably stop updating sourceforge from now onwards, but at least the current version there will be able to always update to the latest github version in the future

I haven't installed it yet to see what it does. I'm gonna wait for the drive I ordered to get here. Was hoping to be able to get the games to load from usb instead of the disks. I can't get the disc copy and save feature to work either in the usb loader gx. So I downloaded a few wbfs files to use for test purposes.

Do you have a preference for what setup and install directions someone should use to mod a wii from start to finish getting the usb loader gx to function? Like a link in these forums or an external one?

I know u don't have your hdd yet, but a lot of your questions, including the last one, can be answers by installing modmii (ideally using default installation directory), then from the main menu start the main Modmii Wizard, tell it your wii is a virgin, and tell it your current firmware version and region when asked, answer the other questions, it's very easy. When you get to the end modmii will generate a custom guide for u based on your answers. It has step by step instructions, video clips, pictures, fun facts, and is intended to take u from knowing nothing to not only having an optimal softmod but also educating u on the basics of wii softmodding

Edit: I prefer using modmii classic instead of modmii skin, but that's up to everyone's individual preference

do I need to undo anything on the unit that I've already done?
