LOL I did install vgedit from the app store the other day, but haven't actually checked it out yet. Perhaps it would be a good second candidate for adding more features to, since it already does basic SD browsing and text file editing. If you read the whole thread though (or even just the whole last page), you'll see that those who are interested in this are looking for many more features as well, most predominantly USB support ;)
agreed

Ok, here we go.....

I have tried to two differnt Wii U with the same results:

  • First Wii U - With CBHC installed = I Have unistall it, and tried to install the WUP app again, I have got the same result as the CBHC installed. So, freezing at the Wii U Menu Loading words.
  • Second Wii U - that never have been installed CBHC but only the executable Haxchi Manually= I installed the completely fresh same WUP package (to Nand and to the USB). So, freezing at the Wii U Menu Loading words.
Resault it's that the CBHC it's not related to this problem. The problem could be or the way how the OS (example Windows 10 specially works but gives some little bugs for other users and me instead of Linux that worked better) packed managment the files to be in the RPX executable for the Wii U or some string line missing/ some unecessary string line that creates this bug (like in the "code" content folder).

Yesterday, when I tried to pack the file for the WUP installer in myriade of ways, I did try the standard code, content and meta that come from the HomeBrew Launcher and also I extracted others WUP packet files that are working well to extract them necessaries code, content and meta adjusted the strings for the WiiU Shell and re-packet the WUP installer WiiU Shell ; same resaults and freezing......

Hmm...sounds like it's definitely an RPX issue then. I wonder whether the original (albeit more buggy) RPX would work better as a channel...I'll give this a go since you've already done heaps. Thanks again for your efforts! ;)

Thanks to you, I'm here if you need :).
Probably , yes, it's the RPX because as per my understanding from the Super Mario 64 Port experience (that i didn't try some other upgraded RPX file) the problems was in some rpx files version that gives to some other users this bug, where someone else it doesn't has because they changed the RPX upgraded file. But where exactly it's the problem in the RPX, I don't know.....

Yeah figuring that out will be the tricky part. But if I can get @rw-r-r-0644's original RPX to work, then it confirms that the new code is the problem.

EDIT: As a side note, do you experience the extremely-annoying bug that truncates file and directory names to 4 characters? This only happens sometimes for me and I can't figure out the root cause.

On the github @rw-r-r-0644's respository there is writed that the Wii U Shell it's a port of "NX-Shell"....I don't know if this info could be helpful for you

Ungfortunately nope, but I noticed that some of the words are cutted when you open Wii U Shell, example Haxchi it's writed Haxc.

Thanks but I was already aware of that, and no it doesn't really help much :(

It's gotta be an issue that's either existed all along in the WiiU-Shell code, or something related to NUSPacker not packing things properly for this particular scenario. Or maybe an error in our meta files...I just freshly packed the old RPX and the same meta and texture files I've been using all along, installed the result with WUP Installer GX2 and still get the menu boot loop on exit :(

Could you please kindly share your meta files? I doubt they'll help much but it's worth a try. I'll also post on the #wiiu Discord channel to see if anyone there can shed any light on this frustrating and confusing issue. Cheers mate!

That's what I'm talking about. It happens all over the UI, but only sometimes. So weird!

I'm in the same boat as you guys, I can make a channel, make custom tga's/music and edit the xml files, pack the channel with nuspacker, but I keep getting the same exit issue :/

How do the devs get it to work with their channels :P

Yea, after I posted that message last night I came across something about procui needing to be properly added to whatever RPX you want to make a channel out of :/
So not an easy task for people who dont know how to edit the RPX's source and compile :P

Is there anything like this yet? I want to be able to read/write on my Wii U formatted external hard drive. ftpiiu-EVERYWHERE can do this, but copying a multi-GB file over the Wii U's horrible internet takes hours and hours. right now a 3 GB file would take over 10 hours to transfer

can WiiU-Shell access the internal WFS formatted system memory, or a Wii U WFS USB drive?
is ANYTHING besides ftpiiu capable of accessing these things? Even with an Ethernet cable attached, ftpiiu has insanely slow speeds. transferring a simple 150 MB file takes over 10 minutes

I know a good file manager would be nice but just to be sure:
You are aware that you can just use ftpiiu everywhere and any ftp client on your smartphone to do literally anything? I'm using an old debloated version of ES File Explorer but Solid Explorer or any other ftp-capable tool should do the trick.
the problem with ftpiiu is if the file goes above even a few MB

even with a direct Ethernet connection between the Wii U and a desktop, transferring a 150 MB file to a Wii U formatted WFS USB drive takes 10 minutes
a 3 GB file takes literally over 10.5 hours

For anyone still watching this thread and hoping for an all-in-one solution, rather than having to use two separate pieces of software as lordelan suggests, I am looking into this now.

I've finally managed to compile the most recent version of WiiU-Shell from @GaryOderNichts' fork (thank you so much Gary, couldn't have done this without you!) and it works reasonably-well for anyone interested in just the SD card. You can grab the RPX from https://github.com/kenny1983/WiiU-Shell/releases/tag/v1.06.

I still have a few minor bugs on my console, which I'll try ironing out before attempting to add USB, FTP and cloud support (in that order).

Oh and the ability to edit text files and extract archives would be nice too IMO, so I'll try to look into that as well :-) If I've missed anything, just let me know! Peace B-)
How do I use this .RPX file? I have Homebrew Launcher v2.1, and launching the RPX file just gives me a black screen and I have to force shut down the Wii U

Apologies for the delay in my response; work/life commitments have gotten in the way of my hobby programming efforts for the past 11 months. I also apologise to everyone else in this thread who was waiting on me to solve the many issues with WiiU-Shell.

If you still care about this, the best way I found to load the RPX was with wiiload. I know that sounds counter-intuitve; needing a computer to run something that is supposed to circumvent the need for a computer LOL. But seriously, it worked (for me) 100% of the time, with no weird boot loops or other major issues.

CrisMod and I were talking in this thread about installing a NUSPacker-created channel late last year, and that's when I dropped off the scene again. I have more time up my sleeve now, so I might get back into the WiiU-Shell code base tomorrow. I don't want to make any promises that could end up being broken again, but I really would love to fix these issues just for the sense of self-satisfaction, if nothing else.

I very much still care and hope you can figure out how to squash the bugs with WiiU-Shell :)
I have a Channel made but like you it doesn't exit lol
