Hardware Nintendo Switch 1TB sd card best option

I want to purchase a 1TB SD card (as the title points out):

I am between two:

Sandisk Extreme

It all compatible with Nintendo Switch? And which one to prefer?

Since they're (micro)SDXC they should both be compatible with a Switch.


Speed-wise both of them have exactly the same rating and as an owner of 128gb variants of both these brands (Extreme and Extreme Pro) the difference in real world speed is insanely minimal.

It is also worth noting that both of these are far too fast to matter for any workload on a Switch. The microSD port on the console can't even go that fast.


So just take the cheapest one at the capacity you want. Of those two, you should get the first one you linked.

I think I have the extreme one (2 of them, one for each switch). the color doesn't look right with the pro. I don't know if there's really much of a difference between the two. I haven't had any problems with either extreme, but check yours with h2testw after getting to make sure it's not fake.

I have legit of both at 128gb, the difference was a couple MB/s of speed when tested with CrystalDiskMark. Nothing to write home about.
I don't know why SanDisk bothers with the two when they are essentially the same. Marketing tactics I guess?

Just go for the Sandisk Extreme, you don't need the extreme pro.

I got my first 1TB for $199.99 on black Friday last year, then the second on labor day of this year for around $180. both were new and from amazon, so you should be good as far as them being legit. I only have about 215GBs of space left on each with 137 games installed along with updates and all dlc that I know of. this is on a legit system too, both are legit.

I second this. There have been numerous incidents of Switch users losing their data and it always can be traced back to the use of exfat. It's unlikely you'll ever really have a need for files large enough to warrant anything other than fat32 so it's just silly to risk it.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the advice. I have the Fat32guiformat but also I have SD Card Formatter by TUXERA. Is it any of them ok (or maybe both) or any other suggestion?

fat32gui is what I used. I have some games as big as 30GBs, and I've never had a problem with a file being over 4GBs. afaik, no switch game has a file that large.

exfat easy to currupted if interfiring happen when sending data, but you can use chkdsk /f on windows to repair the corrupted file,
i still using exfat on 512gb only manage 36 games, so tempting to buy 1tb but there is no good game either for that, waiting next year, then 1tb worth for me atleast the price will drop
this year will be epic for games library : little nightmare 2, monhun rise, shin megami v, persona 5s, botw2, bayo3, no more heroes 3, and any other ports....

Unsure if because there are more blocks/sectors it has to read through before initializing or what. Unsure if this is a consideration for the Switch at all, though.

FAT32 doesn't have journaling either. That's not the issue. Just something with Nintendo's exFAT implementation.

You need to use a 64kb cluster, it boot faster for larger card than compared to using 32kb cluster. About 8 seconds difference for me going from 32kb to 64kb on a 256gb card.

I have a 400GB card in my Switch... so far no problems. It is the PRO version of that card. But the slower card I had before had the same quick load results.

I bought the extreme version which is now really cheap {sold by amazon so I think it it will be the original} ~230 euros. Well, this got me covered for now or at least 1 more year (wishlist is too large about 96 games but many are less than 10GB). Usually, I am trying to cover my needs in storage with absolute perfection due to vacations/trips being very tight in what I can carry with me and prevent myself to include "standalone" fragile parts. For example, I want to carry Switch with Charger only that's why I do not buy retail games and i want this large SD Card.
