I don't know about an error while checking integrity, but when building a package, an error will usually halt the build process. warnings are okay. in fact, they're pretty much guaranteed, since orbis is afaik sony software, just hacked to allow fake packages to be built. I think that's why @KiiWii doesn't link you to it. don't worry about warnings, only errors.

not sure if blackhat is the event, but the day 0 exploit isn't a kernel one. it says it's a webkit exploit for the 6.xx firmwares. it says this in the description.

btw, the member who mentioned needing to update to play ps4 games on the ps5 -- I don't know that for 100%. there was a rumor posted about it here on temp that linked to one of sony's official sites in Europe where it said that you had to. however, that info was removed for some reason, so it no longer says anything about playing ps4 games on the ps5. though, it would be a good way to force people to update if sony chooses to.

I was looking for the right link, but I couldn't find it. the best I could find from a short google search is that you need to be on the latest or should be on the latest to take advantage of ps4 gaming "upgrade" stuff on the ps5. not sure if ps4 games will even be playable without a day one update. I didn't own a ps3 right when it came out, but I read something about bc being a disaster right when the system launched.

logically, sony is going to do whatever they can to ensure people have to update. I think them joining hacker one was to qualm any exploit asap (especially the notorious day 0 ones), so I don't think the ps5 scene is going to be anything like the ps3 or 4 ones (if there even is a scene). most people are good, but the few, vocal morons have driven off a lot of good devs like the flow. he went back to the vita scene, in fact iirc, he has a new exploit called henlo on the vita, which makes the system even easier to exploit. it's a web browser exploit from what I understand just like henkaku, but I think it works on the latest firmware.

ps4 tools is essentially the same except I think pkg viewer assumes the passphrase is all 0s. ps4 tools will ask for it from what I remember. it's a little more complicated, because iirc, it divides the partitions between sce_sys and image0. sce_sys is like the param.sfo, keystone, etc. while the image0 is the content. I think pkg viewer can decrypt sce_sys content, possibly even extract it, but not sce_sys unless it's a fake pkg. I've had no success getting content to appear if it's above 5.05 for some reason with pkg viewer. are you sure the content is a fake pkg? you'll definitely get an error if it's official. themes and dlc can be unlocked pretty easily using the system, then you can make a fake pkg. games and updates can't be though.

well, that's not necessarily true. you can make a fake pkg of games and updates via the same method (using the system) or dumping it with the app dumper payload. afaik, dlc and themes can be dumped regardless of firmware update, though some dlc may require an update that can't be dumped. this all happens in the sandbox directory. sandbox/pfsmnt (probably stands for protected file system mount) from what I remember. I've been dumping a ton of themes for someone, so that they can see how they're made, so I do have a lot of experience with them. dlc is dumped the same way though.

btw, the way to know the difference between sce_sys and image0 is that fake pkg generator will create sce_sys with default settings while image0 is the content. you can create a param.sfo telling the system what files to make in sce_sys and if you create a modifiable pkg (a checkbox when creating the pkg), you can even force replace the default file (i.e. like the keystone which governs saves). normally, the system will ignore what you have unless you tell it not to.

well, it depends. normally, an error (not sure about checking integrity), but an error with creating a pkg will stop the pkg build. nothing will be created. that's why errors are usually bad. I know gengp4 will create a log if an error is intercepted, but I don't know about pkg viewer. warnings are okay, in fact guaranteed though. ignore those.

is it an official pkg? if it is, you have to have the system decrypt pfs (protected file system). we don't have those keys (at least publicly), so the system has to do all the work. I had some problems with content over 5.05 even if it was a fake pkg with pkg viewer. I didn't have the same problem with orbis.

there is another possibility if (think the file is named this) content.bin is corrupted. that happened to me, and it was reading everything as an official pkg. redownloading pkg viewer fixed it.

I have very mixed feelings because besides the games there isn't really any bells and whistles of modding the PS4 and PS4 games are really cheap to obtain. Hopefully at EOL the PS4 can be modded on any firmware I refuse to spend $300 on a used PS4 especially when that $300 can go towards the PS5 once I trade my PS4 in.

it's probable that some sort of exploit will come out, perhaps one that's been hidden, at the eol. however, unlike nintendo, sony still supports older systems, so eol could be two years from now, not when the ps5 launches. remember AACS keys (bluray movie keys) have to be renewed every 12-18 months, so there could be updates, even ones that do this and patch loopholes, for years.

I can see Sony still supporting the PS4 for another 2 years that's what they did with the PS3.... for me personally I'm just going to trade my PS4 in for a PS5 once I'm given the opportunity. I heard PS Plus is going to change and they are going to be giving 2 PS4 games and 2 PS5 games in the future. I have a ton of PS4 games the only notable ones I'm missing is TLOU2 and FF7 Remake. I would keep my PS4 on 7.51 but I won't be able to play destiny and that's a deal breaker lol

the ps4 needs to be hit with a hardware exploit. at least then, it's unlikely sony would be able to patch it. it's possible devs are sitting on exploits, not releasing them for whatever reason. it does piss me off when people call theflow a sell out as if they wouldn't disclose an exploit for $10,000+ themselves. he can still disclose the exploit but only after it's been patched. the irony that people would say that when they're too cheap to buy games in the first place. it's like the pot calling the kettle black. I personally don't think most devs will even bother with the ps5 after how they were treated with the ps4. it's usually the same people hacking every console too. they have the skills to, but if they wish to is another story or at least wish to disclose that info. I don't blame 'em if they choose not to. I plan to delete my account on here in less than a month after how I was treated elsewhere. I'm going back to music, but I had no real site to call my own. I don't have the skills that these hackers do, but I do what most people in the scene refuse to: read then disclose what I've read so others don't have to.
