Can somebody who looked into the sx firmware code talk about it? I have a huge interest in this code, but cant code. Has anyone found an uncool thing in this code? Like the copy protection from the Gateway cards?

iam not using a chip ,i have the first gen switches but wil see
Then none of this will matter to you since you can already freely use any cfw. This is for switch-lite users or 2nd gen that used sxos chips, but want to use something else other than booting into sxos menu. This is probably the 1st lead to gain atmosphere support. Some ppl are reading this wrong thinking the sxos is leaked.

Never heard of trinket, switchme. Etc
Infact there is a wide range of devboards that will work equally as well

It seems you forget about what a MCU (like the Cortex M0 on trinket) and what an FPGA is able to do. I'm quiet sure that TX didn't put this FPGA on the board for no reason.
Especially voltage glitching normally needs to be faster than what the MCU (M0) may be able to provide.

Why? Nintendo don't give a damn if someone dumps a pirate devices software x3
But if the dumping of said pirate device's software results, further down the road, in more pirate devices being readily available, I'm sure Nintendo would care a little about it, no?

Well, then with this exploit it's possible to overwrite FW in modchip, so it will be possible to overwrite SX modchip FW to load any payload.

So people with switches with tx modchips can overwrite the tx firmware with this open-source one over usb?

and I think Hekate should be the default payload for the modchip and it points to the files on the sd card. that way don't have to worry about editing files on the chip itself for normal or android/ubuntu setup

That's one way to paint a target on their own back from Nintendo's Von Karma.
Why would they care, they're not producing modchips, they've exploited a vulnerability to obtain the firmware, nothing else to it, if someone then produces further modchips then Nintendo would go after the Modchip creator, dumping software that Nintendo doesn't own is nothing to do with Nintendo.

Hopefully no-one else will be arrested now...as long as it's not being sold, it should be "fine"? Though a cease & desist could still be a thing - like for those old Pokemon and Metroid fangames...then again, Atmo never got a C&D, as far as I'm aware...

Wasn't Hekate discontinued either early this year or some time last year, though?

Not really. It will happen sooner or later anyway. This dumper is totally fine and why would Nintendo try to do anything against it? All it does is to collect the data right?

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
