PS1/2 Open PlayStation Loader can't read my External hard drive via ethernet?

Hi everyone.

I've currently got my laptop hooked up to the PS2 via ethernet and using SMB share.

My laptop hard drive isn't great so I downloaded a bunch of games to an external hard drive and shared that but the games don't appear in OPL.

I got a 128gb USB drive, copied a game across, kept all the same folders and naming conventions, shared that in the exact same way and the game will show up?

Any ideas?

In what sense? I enabled SMB share on both devices in the exact same way

On windows smb sharing with OpenPS2 is really a hassle, I had one PC where it didn't work with the exact same settings it did on another.
Had to disable the firewall on the one that didn't work to get it running.
For linux I hadve an smb.conf that works even on my raspberry pi if you are interested.

Ah OK I get you, I wasn't aware of that.

So I did try going the Pi route and it just didn't work for me, I brought a Pi 4, tried installing Psx Pi on it but had an issue where it wouldn't boot. Googled it and apparently this is a problem with a lot of Pi 4s and I should install Raspbian and download Psx Pi through there but it just would not work and eventually even Raspbian stopped booting. In all fairness the issue is probably because I'm not great at this sort of stuff so I settled for the PC method.

I'll play around with my firewall settings, see that gives me any joy. Thank you for the help!

@Axel_Justice Yeah I have to admit that I sunk way too much time into the pi solution back then when there wasn't psx pi so I wrote all scripts myself and I still have to reboot the pi when I want to switch a game.
At the same time it's the most elegant solution to have my tiny pi zero taped to my PS2 with everything in one place.

AFAIK OPL only supports SMB1 but newer versions of Windows disable that version by default for security reasons.

I have enabled it as far as I'm aware.


Silly question but is there a chance I have to do it for individual devices?

So I managed to fix it, all my games are appearing in OPL. I'll leave this here incase anyone has the same issue

I had to do 2 things. The drive was NTFS, apparently it comes with its own set of security permissions I needed to check

Also for some reason unlike the USB drive I needed to create a folder within the HDD, move everything into there and share that folder
