Hey,

So I softmodded my sons WII U years ago and pretty much forgot about it until now. He came to me saying about playing GC games with the Wii U gamepad. I had a google around and found out about injecting/forwarding them. I got it all installed but when he went to load it sometimes he gets a black screen, sometimes the game works. Again, I googled about this and never found a cause or proper solution for this, the only work around seems to be injecting/forwarding HBC.

This is the point where im absolutely stumped. From my understanding I need HBC installed in VWii, which was already done from years ago. I read a tutorial about a gamepad version of HBC, apparently you have to make your own, I tried to use the injecter tool to do it but as there was no .dol file, couldnt do it. I did manage to make an injected version of Nintendont which he can run from Wii U and it supports gamepad though. Problem now is I cant remember htf to get Gamecube games onto the usb HDD.

Ive looked through countless tutorials but cant seem to make any progress now. Hoping someone here can guide me a bit.

Thanks.

Hello.:)

Do you maybe have also the USBLoader GX installed ?
With that you can use NINTENDONT easily.

You only need a FAT32 USB HDD or FAT32 SD Card.
There you need to make an Folder "games" and out the Gamecube ISO´s into in this Structur for Example:

In the Root of the USB HDD or SD Card the Folder "games" -> in there the Folder "Resident Evil 2 [GHAP08]" -> in this the GameCube ISO named "game.iso" and "disc2.iso" if it is a 2 Disc Game.

When you now start NINTENDONT from within the USBLoader GX or from the Homebrew Channel,it automatically found the Folder and list your Games.

If you habe USBLoader GX you can start GameCube Games directly from the Menu Screen.

I hope this helps you a little.
Thank you.:)

Thank you for your reply.

Ive done all this so far, and got a game working. I cant figure out how to get it from SD card to usb HDD. I recall a long long time ago when I softmodded a wii you just used a wbfs tool and put games on HDD via PC, I just dont remember the method to do it for GC games on a Wii U.

If you have USBLoader GX then you can only have to change the Nintendont Main Path in USBLoader GX Settings.:)
The same on the vWii.

For the Wii U you can make an Inject/Forwarder from the Nintendont.
There are Manuals around, but you have to organize the needed Files by yourself...

For legal reasons, we cannot offer the finished forwarder. Download the WiiVC Injector and inject boot.dol as a Wii homebrew - we have packed the forwarding DOL, the icon, banner and the boot sound into the download above, which you only have to select in the program!

https://wiidatabase.de/wii-u-downloads/kanaele/nintendont-forwarder-wii-u/

This Method only works from SD Card, because it is an Inject and therefor no Access to USB possible.
So maybe the Solution you need is using Nintendont from the vWii.:)

Thank you.:)

Okay, Ive managed to install the HBC on Wii U that when you run it takes you to HBC in VWii, with gamepad support.

Next question, how to I get Game Cube games onto HDD to play from Nintendont?

That is the Question you have to consider.
First, there is not really a "Problem" to play your GameCube Games from the SD Card.It is fast enough, approved and reliable,so not really any Issues to expect.:)

Now to your HDD Question.
You maybe know, that the Wii U uses its own HDD Format so you only can use Wii U Games on this HDD.

For GameCube and Wi Games you need an other HDD preferred formatted with FAT32.It is needed for Nintendont/GameCube Games but also works great and reliable for the Wii Games.
So your next Step is to get an HDD (yes, there are many Users who uses USB Sticks/Flash Drives and that Kind) but It is maybe a better idea to aviod them please.

Also for the "not so good" USB Power Supply" on the Wii U,an HDD with an Y-Cable or better with an Power Adapter is a good Choice please.

Then as mentioned you can create the Folder "games" on the Root and copy your GameCube Games as I have explained above on your HDD.Then you can try to boot NINTENDONT from the vWii Homebrew Channel and on the Startup it will ask you which Device (SD or USB) you want to use.:)

If you use Nintendont/GameCube Loading from within the USBLoader GX then you have to go into the
Settings - Custom Paths and change "Main GameCube Path to "usb(x):/games/" please.(x) stand for your USB Device maybe it is 1 or 0 on your Device.:)

Good Luck
Thank you.:)

update nintendon
^- This. The first thing I would do is updating involved software like Nintendont. After that try the injects you mentioned in the very first post* again and if they still don't work have a look at the injector, maybe you turned on some unsave setting by accident?

*
got it all installed but when he went to load it sometimes he gets a black screen, sometimes the game works.

That is what I used to make the injects. It has an option on it to download the latest Nintebdont. Still get the black screen. I've googled the hell out of it, loads of people seem to get it but nobody knows the cause which is why I'm trying to use a workaround found elsewhere.

Good Morning.😉

Does .nkit.iso work?

Does .nkit.iso work?
Yes (I am honestly surprised,I did not knew it.....).:)

https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/NKit

NKit can convert to ISO and the NKit format. The NKit format is designed to shrink an image to its smallest while ensuring it can be restored back to the original source data.
NKit images are also playable with Dolphin, Swiss and

Nintendont (but not Wii USB Loaders yet).
