sounds like it's trying to load redNAND possibly. make sure the config.ini has redNAND = 0. fyi, you won't have a config.ini if you've never successfully run mocha before. you should get a black screen with several questions when you boot mocha up for the first time. this creates the config.ini. I think redNAND is set as yes by default, which is the problem most have with it.

Well, when I tried to use Mocha recently, it just returned me to the Homebrew Launcher with no indication if Mocha was booted up. And when I used CBHC and clicked on boot Mocha CFW, it also put me on the Homebrew Launcher. The issue was that the Mocha config file had some options that were not optimal in my opinion. So I decided to change the config file into something that not only makes it clear when I boot up into Mocha, but also boots up the Wii U Menu instead of the Homebrew Launcher. Here's a link to my Mocha config file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iqNzKYDt6kjpEt2XhICYy0oBTNhHsDui/view?usp=drivesdk.
Just put this file in the Mocha folder of your SD Card. The easiest way to confirm if Mocha works is to open any unsigned title to see if it boots up, as well as checking on the System Settings if the Wii U version is 5.5.3 (or 5.5.4 if your console is European)

Hello, thanks to everyone with the time to read and the will to help!

I consider myself as super noob about console hacking but not totally IT illiterate!
I did successfully hacked my 3ds, Wii, Wii u but always using tutorials.

I am running last firmware on a Japanese Wii U(5.5.3J), hacked with CBHC, that I am trying to make region free using FTPiiu everywhere. However, I am for some reason totally unable to run Mocha. When I boot I experience exactly the same issue of @Helpmewithmywiiu. I tried to go without it (since I read in other posts it was not really needed) and it synced but I cannot access the storage slc folder. Then I tried what @GABO1423 proposed with his config.ini, still no luck. Now instead of bringing me back to the Homebrew launcher menu, it brings me to the Wii U menu. I supposed it is related to the launchSysMenu=1 (that was also the only command different in my original config.ini).

I was not sure about opening another thread or post here since this is exactly what I am experiencing and I have the feeling the issue is Mocha/hack related. Spiik used to have the same behavior of Mocha but now for some reason boots. However, it does not work at all. Tried with European title with well-known booting problem on different regions and it did not boot (Mario 3d World), as well with European title that booted due to the hack but still present language in Japanese (Shovel Knight). At this point, I would appreciate any help! Thank you!

mocha is supposed to bring you to the wii u menu. it sounds to me like it worked.

Thanks for your reply and for taking the time to read.
At this point maybe my problem is not pertinent with this original post but since you were so kind I will update you.

I uninstalled and reinstalled it and I was able to boot in Mocha. Then I was also able to boot in FTPiiu everywhere and change the file system_slc/config/sys_prod.xml. At this point, however, nothing changed and I was not able to boot neither Mario Kart 8 (eur) nor Super Mario 3D World (eur). I have redone the FTPIIUE connection to check if the sys_prod was properly saved and it was o.o ! Any idea about it?

(I will open an independent post since @Helpmewithmywiiu seems to have a different issue as @godreborn said)

thanks again @godreborn.

But don't I need IOSUHAX to patch my sysnand through wupserver? I am sorry I may be talking nonsense due to my noobness but this is what it came up when I looked. Should I look for it? Can I install it with no issues if I have CBHC?

yes, don't need wup, but you can use it. you just need ftpii u everywhere for mocha or haxchi depending on which hack you're using. you don't need iosuhax either.

thanks, update.. all the apps we talked about (ftpiiue for cbhc, ftpiiue, mocha, spiik) they all went back to not booting. Starting them gives for a very short time black screen and then back to the homebrew menu.

Are you running an installed version of the Homebrew Launcher from an icon on your Wii U menu? There's a known bug with launching some homebrew, try launching HBL directly from the CBHC menu, or alternatively install this fixed version: https://github.com/GaryOderNichts/homebrew_launcher/releases/tag/v2.1_fix

No, I was referring to your other problem with some homebrew apps not loading. I've never tried installing or using out-of-region titles, and I doubt the solution I posted would have any effect on region issues.
