Tetris 99 receives a visit from Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Look up above! There's a special arrival waiting to drop. This week, the Tetris 99 game on the Nintendo Switch system teams up with the Animal Crossing: New Horizons game for the Tetris 99 13th MAXIMUS CUP event!

The Tetris 99 13th MAXIMUS CUP event runs from 12 a.m. PT on May 15 to 11:59 p.m. PT on May 18. To participate, you'll need to be a Nintendo Switch Online member and play the Tetris 99 online mode during the event period. You'll be able to earn event points based on your placement in each match that you play over the course of the event. Once you've secured a total of 100 event points, you'll unlock a new theme inspired by Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

The Tetriminos that drop onto your screen in Tetris 99 might be a little more daunting than the presents that drop in Animal Crossing: New Horizons when you pop a passing balloon, but in both games it's up to you to make the best of your surprise arrivals. Hopefully you can arrange those Tetriminos with the same skillful touch you use to arrange furniture in your dream island home!

Tetris 99 features online competitive modes exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online members. Owners of the digital version of the game can purchase the optional Big Block DLC, which adds several offline modes.

For those who would like to participate in the Tetris 99 13th MAXIMUS CUP but are not Nintendo Switch Online members and have already used their free trial in the past, an additional seven-day free trial will be available later this week!

A physical version of Tetris 99 is also available. For a suggested retail price of $29.99, the physical version includes the game, all DLC and a 12-Month Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership.

If you have any questions about the Tetris 99 13th MAXIMUS CUP, visit the Tetris 99 website.

We hope you enjoy the event. May the best resident win!

I feel that newer versions of Tetris are pretty noob friendly.
The only Tetris that's "new" and that I like is Tetris DS.

How come new Tetris Players can see a ghost of where to put the Tetrimino? That's cheating.
Besides, old tetris is better because it's difficulty.
Not everyone can get to level 19 cough cough I can wihtout a ghost.

If only Nintendo would do this shit in the Wii era.
Nintendo makes fun stuff when I don't have the newest toys and that's unfair.

Wish it would actually bring Tetris swag into AC, which has NONE of the digital gaming items it used to have previously.
