Nintendo advises players to not use disinfectant on their Nintendo Switch console

Gear-NintendoSwitchLite_artwork_05.jpg

As the COVID-19 outbreak continues, many people have been washing their hands and disinfecting their belongings on a constant basis. But one object you might not want to be cleaning with alcohol-based cleaner is your Nintendo Switch. Nintendo of Japan's customer support team Tweeted out that Switch owners should avoid using alcohol wipes on their system, as it can "cause the plastic parts to fade in color or deform". Even the use of non-alcoholic cleaners is advised against, as certain ones can still damage the plastic housing or Joy-Cons. Instead, users are recommended to simply use a dry cloth to wipe down their game console.

Stop letting it fall off yr bed then and when finished for the night put it on yr bedside table

The joycons gets ruined just by regular use. Is a know fact, is a documented fact, is even something people might be suing Nintendo for.

Heck I use the kind of wipe you use on DVDs and Blue Ray, the micro fibres one, since that's the only one that actually cleans the switch without any damage or scratches.

And those things are expensive.

Basically I threat my Switch like it was made of crystal with how freaking careful I am with it.

Simpson are so ahead of their time, predicted so many things.
lol no they didn't predict jackshit. they just did every damn thing you could possibly imagine no matter how stupid or outrageous it was. if you was on tv for 30+ years you would have done every imaginable scenario possible and copied every book and movie in existence too for your episodes.

Been using antistatic lens wipes on my switch for years now, no issues with fading or any damage to the screen. They're not super wet or high in alcohol (at least the ones I get).

Eather Nintendo doesn't know anything or their products suck nowdays (switch).
I literally clean EVERYTHING with alcohol 70% and it not just kills germs it makes things squeaky clean.

I literally clean my DS's, 3DS's, my vita, gba, gba sp, GBC, N64, DS original, WiiU gamepad, gamecube, dreamcast, cellphones, monitors, keyboard...you name it, and i do that for years! Oher than that alcohol is pretty great to have for hands also, although it dryes skin if used regulary...

Now nintendo should said not to use acetone, that thing stinks like hell, eats plastic and melt it if its some thinner one...

Alcohol? never! i actually recomend using it on consoles, just not directly ofc, use cotton and few drops on cotton is enough.

Keep it simple guys just wash yr hands before you use yr switch
Thats not practical, cause some of us do not use switch an hour a day and thats it. i use it 5 min, than standby, than after 10min again, than standby, than after 2 hours again for 1 hour than i leave it, than after 2 hours again... its just not practical and ids jarring to wash hands EVERY time. Also why would you wash hands if you're at home.

Depending how is the law in your country and if youre allow to go out and when, and if you bring console with you...even without corona cellphones and electronics are full of bacteria anyway.

So using alcohol on it once in a while is also pretty simple. Washing hands is normal even without corona.

From what they know at this point, you're generally unlikely to get the virus from a surface like that, unless someone very specifically coughed on it just then.
And if someone managed to get the virus on your system, you're much more likely to also catch it from that person wether you clean the system or not
There are things other than corona on your switch and cell... also its dirty and oily from hands.

You can soak it in alcohol and leave it for a day and plastic wont melt or fade. It depends on precentage of concentrate not on the amount of liquid. i use 70% and NEVER had an issues. aonly benefits...ofc, do not soak it xD

Seems to me just a statement to legally decline repairs under warranty if a defect happens because the screen was cleaned. Washing it with an alcohol cloth shouldn't damage a screen. It's because they cheaped out with a plastic one instead of glass. By giving a statement like this officially they protect themselves in a legal manner if repairs are asked under warranty with a defective screen
to legally decline the liquid marken inside must be damaged meaning liquid is used, which will never happen imo.

Well i can def say that my every nintendo product has gone through phisical torture. only ds lite showed like a wuss and hinge broke and i heard switch is also a wuss as people say... its not about taking care of it but making it break proof as much as they can, which they dont lately as i see.... My vita experienced some brutal hits and drops, and absolutely nothing happened and it never glitched. Thats called quality.

I've started to lol,
But I totally get not doing it, cause no one ever thinks of it. Though you should clean your phone atleast once a day. I clean mine before bed, Idk about you but I let my charge on my bed, and so it's in my bed.
You sleep with your phone? You pervert! :P

What the hell are joycons made of? Why does every liquid and gas known to man cause problems when coming in contact with them?

Oh well, Hori Splitpad Pro is the much better option for portable play regardless.

Seriously?!? I thought Nintendo cared about their customers... Oooh, I get it! They're going to market their own cleanser to use on the Switch! ...Oh, or better yet, an UV light disinfecting unit! Looks like another case, but with UV light bulbs inside.
(Buys one and takes it home)
Wait a moment. Doesn't UV bleach things? Then that explains why my Switch Lite is now grayish-white...

Back in the day Nintendo strongly cautioned against using cleaners on the Game Boy as well.

I remember when they released decals for the Game Boy in Nintendo Power (Jan '93, I think?) and they actually had to include a special note in a later issue saying, "Yes, in order to get the glue off, you're probably going to want to use a cleaner, even though you normally shouldn't".
