So I'm transitioning to a clean SysNAND OFW from a stock backup I made on 4.1 and a incognito emuMMC 9.2 CFW (running Atmosphere). I want to be safe and not burn fuses when I update my OFW from 4.1 to 9.2 but also don't want to be banned by using ChoiDujourNX to update it (this has been known to happen right?). Question is: can I enter RCM right after the restart from updating the OFW online through Nintendo to keep fuses from burning? Or is there some way of keeping AutoRCM enabled through that process on OFW?

One way I could think of it working is launching ChoiDujourNX from RCM as a .bin and updating the OFW that way but idk if anyone has made that yet, or if it's even possible?
Or do I need to make an sysMMC too in order to play online to avoid burnt fuses (like ksanislo says in this thread)

Just for reference I have an old non-patched switch with 5 fuses burnt, so I could run Caffeine but I don't want to since I have a dongle.

Ok, I figured out that you can just hold down the volume button exactly as the update restarts with a jig in to re-enter RCM and not burn fuses. Then once I was in hekate I could re-enable autorcm

However, looks like emuMMC does not allow stock booting for the current firmware:
https://github.com/m4xw/emuMMC/issues/7
https://github.com/CTCaer/hekate/issues/250

Right now I have my OFW updated to 9.2 and am just booting from hekate stock- no emummc.

Does anyone know if there are any plans to allow booting into sysmmc, looks like the last update was several months ago?

How did you update your Sysnand to 9.2.0? With ChoixdujourNX? But now you can't go online...
I just used the regular official system updater through Nintendo. You can get into RCM before the fuse burns if you're careful enough. I've been online, eShop etc no bans yet fingers crossed.

Quick question.. if you update your sysnand to 9.2 by normal means, is it possible to also update eminand to 9.2 by going to system settings?

Im currently on 9.1 both sys and emu. If i update emunand via System Settings, is sysnand gonna be affected as well?

No. Sysnand is not gonna be affected.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

However, looks like emuMMC does not allow stock booting for the current firmware:
https://github.com/m4xw/emuMMC/issues/7
https://github.com/CTCaer/hekate/issues/250

What do you mean ? In hekate ini file you can add this lines:

Code:
[Stock (SYSNAND)]
emummc_force_disable=1
fss0=atmosphere/fusee-secondary.bin
stock=1
{}

https://github.com/CTCaer/hekate/issues/292

and it will launch your sysnand.

But it's not what you want to do apparently. Do you want to start your emuMMC without CFW?

No. Sysnand is not gonna affected.

Ok so that means, if i use my Switch, go to System Settings and then see that the AMS is there (an indicator that i am in emunand), i can SAFELY update to 9.2 without problems, right?

After that, since emunand is now gonna be 9.2, i can also use the Atmosphere Updater to update Atmosphere and Hekate to the current version.

Did i miss something or am i good to go for an update and nothing bad will happen?

Update your atmosphere and hekate files before upgrading your emmuNAND with choixdujournx.

Err ChoiDuJour, is it possible not to use ChoiDuJour and just go straight to System Settings and update the emunand there? It wont affect sysnand right?

and it will launch your sysnand.

But it's not what you want to do apparently. Do you want to start your emuMMC without CFW?

This is what I'm doing currently, this is not emuMMC though. The "emummc_force_disable=1" makes it boot my sysNAND rather than a sysMMC if I try to remove that setting in the ini it throws the errors I linked before (the two issues). So yeah I want to be able to launch a clean sysMMC with no CFW just to be safe. I'm fine running my sysNAND clean for now but I'd prefer to use the other way just to keep my sysNAND as clean as possible, prevent burnt fuses etc.

On a related note, is there any risk in running fusee-secondary on sysNAND? Have there been any bans from this?

I think you should not try that if you want to be clean as possible.
I was exactly in the same configuration as you. Clean sysNAND on 4.0.1 but at the end I just burn my efuses and updated to 9.2.0. Now I just restart with the jig if I want to go to my emuMMC + CFW.

    I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
    @TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
    I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    @Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    @TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

    be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
    It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
    It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
    do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
    trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files :wacko:)
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    @Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
    @The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
