Alright so this will probably be long and idk if I should start a new post/thread for this, but I figured I'd try here first:
So... I've been wanting to mod my Switch for a while, OG unpatched version. I bought a second Switch and started using that as my main. The OG was on FW 8.0.1 when I purchased the second Switch and I had planned to keep it on that FW to mod it, my thought process being that keeping the FW lower would be better for modding. I finally mustered up the courage to begin the modding. In preparation, a couple days ago I tried to deregister it as my primary Switch from the console itself but I couldn't do that without it prompting me to update the FW since I had to access the eShop, so I just used my once yearly deregister that I'm allowed via the Nintendo website. So I did that, and today I was gonna delete my main account that's still on the OG Switch, which I'm using my second Switch as the primary console for, since I don't plan on modding that one. Well... it won't let me delete that user account without connecting to the internet (WTHHHH Nintendo???). So I connect to the internet and try to delete it again, it seems to get a little farther along this time but then it asks me to update the FW. Uggghhhh. I just don't want my main account that I'm using on my second (And now primary) Switch to be associated in any way with a console that is modded. My plan was to delete that account and create a new Nintendo ID solely for this modded console for situations where I need to connect to the interwebz on SysNAND. So, I just decided to move forward with modding and create the emuNAND. Before I did this though I checked my apps and I had this random "Octopath Traveller" demo as pretty much the only thing left installed on my SysNAND. In the guide it was recommended that I have an app installed for use with homebrew launcher. I tried launching it after deregistering the console as my primary Switch to make sure that it would launch without that whole "checking to see if the content is usable" or whatever bs that appears once its not your primary console anymore, and it worked with no issues using both my main account and some random offline account one of my buddies made. The app opened right away without being connected to the internet or trying to check anything, so I figured this was the perfect app to keep for use as a full-capability homebrew menu launcher on emuNAND (access to all the RAM, full-feature web browser, etc.). For some reason, now that I've moved forward and finished modding, this app no longer opens, as it tries to do the online check now, even though it's a stupid demo. I don't understand how that happens after I specifically checked it after I had deregistered the console as my primary, but for some reason now it's behaving like the usual app that has to check if it's being used by the primary console or whatever. So that's another issue which I would like to solve, as I'd rather not have to launch homebrew menu from a cartridge. After doing a bunch of research, I'm left overwhelmed as to how to proceed solving these two issues (deleting my main account from both emu and sysNAND, and getting an app downloaded for use as a homebrew menu launcher). I've read all kinds of scary info and conflicting information that has left my head spinning as to what to do because I'm a complete n00b to the Switch Scene. All sorts of things about fuses, and bricking, and bans, and Nintendo accounts being unusable on sysNAND which have left me confused and feeling stuck. So my question is: how should I proceed? I know that these are not major issues, as I could probably just keep my primary account linked to the console and use a cartridge to launch the HB Menu, but these things bother me and I'd really like to resolve them if possible. The account issue for peace of mind, and the HB Menu thing mainly for convenience, plus because of some issues I read about concerning cartridge reader FW, burnt fuses, and no longer being able to read cartridges on emuNAND in certain scenarios. So... Should I reinitialize (format) sysNAND? Will that cause issues with emuNAND? Theoretically you'd think it shouldn't since they're separate, right, but I'm worried due to all the crap I've read in the past 12 hours. And as far as deleting the account from emuNAND, I had assumed there was some kind of homebrew route to delete users from there. I read something about an app called DevMenu, but that scares me as well. Should I just format emuNAND too? Do I need to format (reinitialize) one before the other? What I'd like to do here ideally is delete my main account from both emuNAND and sysNAND, add a new user account/Nintendo ID dedicated to this Swtich and make it the primary console for that account, update sysNAND to latest firmware in order to restore online capabilities and download a random app to use as a dedicated homebrew menu launcher on emuNAND. Unless I can use a locally installed "backup" app on emuNAND as a homebrew menu launcher... Is that possible or does it have to be an "official" eShop app?
