How do the SD cards with reader perform in comparison to a USB HDD?
I have seen that it isn't recommended to use flash drives, but this configuration is ok?
I assume the USB interface is 2.0...but have you done any performance tests?
It is absolutely OK!

I had an extra 500 GB WD Passport drive that was my old Wii drive.
I cleared that off to use it in the U, but apparently it won't work without a Y cable, even though it self-powers fine in my Wii and my PC. I don't love the fact I need to take up both USB ports for it, so I might switch to the SD card method.
I have a spare 200 GB one I might use temporarily until I find out I need a larger.

So I quickly realized I was going over 200 GB on my games, so I've gone back to my 500GB Passport drive.
I've got another Wii with a 2TB so if I want to play Wii games I can do it there. I've injected a few Wii games into the WiiU and with the exception of one which doesn't work with the mic, they all seem fine. This means I can just use one drive for both WiiU and Wii games so taking up both rear ports isn't a huge deal right now.
It seems that SSD drives work best when self powered through one port, so if I didn't care about $$, I would probably get a 512GB-2TB SSD for each port. While the injection of Wii games works, I would almost rather the organization the USB Loader GX gives you rather than have them all shown on the main launcher.
While I usually spend a lot more time, thought, and $ getting things how I want them, this was a hand-me-down console and I never really get a lot of playtime in anyway, so I think for my casual usage it will probably stay this way for the foresee-able future.

I do want to also note some informal performance statistics. When using the WUP installer to install games to my 500GB WD Passport Essential (5400 rpm) drive I am getting transfer rates of about 1GB/50 seconds. The same transfer to my SD card (SanDisk 200GB Ultra microSDXC UHS-I/Class 10 - SDSDQUAN-200G-G4A) took about 80 seconds I believe. I forget the exact numbers, but the HDD was definitely about 50% faster than the microSD. I know there are some better class microSD cards out there, but they are pretty pricey. I would be interested to hear about speeds to other cards.
I will put my 60GB spare SSD back in and test again to post some numbers.
Also, I will try to launch a game or two and see if I see significant differences in launch time. After all, you tend to copy games just once, so more important is the read time off these.

How you got thumbnails on Retroarch??

I got from a kit that I found on the internet:

Youtube code: mea2Lxo1ljY

But I needed to configure several things, so you better use my already setup kit!

Hi, i just want to say thanks for everything you have done, looks great!

I'm pretty new to all of this and was hoping you could lend a hand please.
I Have my console updated to the newest version and i was able to successfully hack it, homebrew channel installed...haxchi..etc all works well.

All i really need is SNES to work to how you show in your video. I downloaded the file that you have included and i see the SNES9sGX emulator folder is tucked in multiple folders/locations on your SD. Do i basically copy those onto my SD card in the same format/locations. If so, do i just launch the homebrew channel and go to WUP GX and install the emulator/forwarder from there? I see you have many other folders on your SD card, are any of those needed for dependencies?

Thanks for help!

Have you set the VWii's homebrew prior to all this and made sure the emulators in them work?

Hello Joe,

Thank you very much for your appreciation!

About the folders you are mentioning, if you install the forwarder with WUP GX, you will still need the same folders. What I did, to avoid having 2 sources of SNES roms, was to put them in the Retroarch folder, and point them with the 00.SD\snes9xgx\settings.xml file.

So if you don't want to make changes, just copy/paste everything AS IS; it will be easier!

Awesome work

Hello Jbizzy816,

Thank you very much for your appreciation!

What I would do is a start over: format the WiiU, install the latest FW, and do my hack using all my files...I think it will be easier for you!

Good luck!

Best!

I've been enjoying this setup for a lot of time. It's very user-friendly once it's done and it allows you to play an incredible amount of games. I use Gamepad for Player 1 and a Wii classic Controller for Player 2. Thanks again! I have a problem that is not this setup's fault, but maybe some of you can help me.

I've started to play Super Mario World (SNES) rom hacks and I notice there is a little bit of input lag. It doesn't make the game unplayable, but sometimes when you press "jump" on the ledge of a platform, Mario does not jump and falls. This is quite frustrating. I've been trying alternatives like using AV cables instead of HDMi, using the different SNES cores of retroarch, updating SNES9XGX and even using SNES9XRX (removes 1 frame of input lag, but I think it actually adds some frames instead) , changing controllers, but I have seen no changes. Is there anything I can do to play SNES games while reducing input lag as much as possible? Thanks!

It seems like the PSX emulator is not as good as I expected. There's a compatibility list that lists some games as "working 100%" even if there are some minor graphic glitches and, especially, sound glitches. Soul Blade's music is terrible!

The rest is working fine after a whole year. As for the SNES Input lag, I updated everything and activated Game Mode in my TV, but nothing changed. But, hey, you get used to it. Wii Classic Controller is just perfect to play SNES and NES. A gamecube controller might fit better for N64 since Classic Controller's joysticks are too wide, but Gamepad is also OK.

I'm still in love wich FCEUGx and SNES9XGx: the design is perfect and you can add your own screenshots to your games.
