Just for the sake of learning because I may revisit sometime in the future. If I would have booted to CFW (emmummc) would I then have to go through the cleaning process or would I also be safe since it was the emmummc on my SD? Does the system settings let you know you are CFW anywhere after booting? Do you happen to have a link to the cleaning process?

Also, was the fact that I kept myself on airplane mode a factor in being able to simply needing to delete the hack files?
You don't have to clean anything if you have booted with CFW to emuMMC. Just throw away the emuMMC partition and delete unnecessary stuff from the SD and you're good to go. Because you haven't touched the eMMC with CFW but only the emuMMC.
If you are using Atmosphere, you can check in the system settings (firmware version) if you see "AMS X.X.X".

And simply formatting my SD will remove the partition and and delete the hack files. Thank YOU! I'll revisit this sometime in the future.

Should I do a new backup of my clean sysNAND after I update to 9.10? And is there any reason to update my offline emuMMC CFW?

I now understand the order operations that the process follows. (Pls someone correct me if I’m wrong) I understand my logs and system is clean because hekate/atmosphere runs before the switch OS is booted. Therefore without actual launching any of the attached icons it’s as if my console is still clean/virgin

You don't need a new backup of your clean SysNAND. But if you have burnt fuses I would recommend to create one. For your second question: You should update your emuMMC if you want to play games which require a higher firmware.

I see there's a new update on switch. I was on the latest firmware with my non-hacked, patched switch, does it actually change anything if I update to this latest firmware? Is there some kind of exploit patched with the very last firmware?

Hi!
I need to ask something, noobish as it is.
We are a small indie game dev team, so I'm thinking of getting us a switch, so we can import, test and play our projects. And eventually publish them.
I thought the easiest and cheapest method would be cfw, is that right?
Yes especially if you go the entire DIY route and make your jig while using a USB cable alongside a computer or Android device.

No but right now CFW & homebrew are a bit unstable on the latest firmware so unless you have to play online, I would advise holding off on updating.

My switch isn't hacked though, but if somehow it would be possible in the future I might jump in. So if there were a possible exploit on my current firmware that got patched with the lastest one, I might have held off. So I can go and update right?

yeah I think I'll probably get paranoic every fw update lol

My apologies. I missed the part where you said your console was patched. In that case, the difference of being on 9.1 and anything above 7.X is the same as there are no exploits past 7.X

I just updated to Atmosphere 0.10.1 and Hekate 5.1.0.
Now I can't return to Hekate from emuNAND (CFW).
Restarting or using Reboot to Payload just reboots emuNAND.

I just updated to Atmosphere 0.10.1 and Hekate 5.1.0.
Now I can't return to Hekate from emuNAND (CFW).
Restarting or using Reboot to Payload just reboots emuNAND.

UPDATE: I fixed the issue. I didn't have to restore my NAND, but I did wipe my SD card and format to fat32... and then I put the latest Hekate and Atmosphere on my card. I also made sure that I had updated the /bootloader folder. I could then get out of the bootloop, but I had a message that it failed to apply the sigcheck, so I had to create the patches.ini file and put it in the /bootloader folder as well. Once I did this, I am now able to boot into CFW EMUMMC again!

I seem to have a similar problem... When I try to boot to CFW (EMUMMC) in Hekate v5.0.2, It shows the Kosmos logo, then Hekate - IPL, then back the the Hekate main menu.

The most recent change I made was this... and it was suspicious to say the least.
I just tried to install the latest version of Tinfoil from Tinfoil.io, and when I ran the app from the homebrew menu, it told me I needed to update the switch software (like it does when you put a brand new game in, but you're on old firmware). I declined, but it left a weird card with a spinning asterisk in the first slot on the switch's main menu (again, in the same place the most recent game you've played would be).
I messed around with some things, deleting the tinfoil folder included, to try to get rid of the spinning star card. Finally, I clicked on it again, and accepted the "firmware update"
I figured it was safe because it came from Tinfoil. However, when it rebooted, I could not get back into CFW (EMUMMC).

Before anyone says my Switch is toast... I can boot from CFW (EMUMMC) on the 4GB card that came with my Switch.
***UPDATE*** I used ChoiDujourNX on the 4GB card to update to Switch fw (9.1.0), and now the same thing is happening on this card. Arrrgh

... that said... I have tried to put all of the CFW files back onto my SD card fresh, and it doesn't do any good.

Any suggestions?

Wanting to update from 8.1 to 9.1.0- can anyone tell me the deal with the game cart reader update? Will Choi DJ ask me this as an option? Or is this something I do separately?

Thanks!

I have an unpachted switch with 8.1.0, do i need to update to 9.1.0, before starting the process of instaling Atmosphere? I ask this because one of my main reasons is to play Alien Isolation, and that is a 9.0.0 /9.0.1 firmware required game...

Atmosphere blocks by default the game card reader update if the fuses of your switch are less than the fuse count of 9.0.0. You don't have to do something during the ChoiDujourNX update process. If you run CFW on SysNAND you need to enable autoRCM which will ChoiDujourNX do by default if you don't disable it.

You can update before or after. If you update after installing Atmosphere, you can prevent fuses from burning which is a good idea if you ever want to go back to 8.1.0.
