Hey Robz I have a windows 8 computer but I doesn’t run the forwarder, I installed the free version of winrar but I doesn’t run the file it just extracts it. How can I use the forwarder on windows 8 or what do I have to download?
( yes I have the right version of winrar and no I don’t have JavaScript or java)

P.s. is there a cia that I can install that can make ds games a cia?

Hi guys... just wanna share something ive found a way on how to make your forwader games play on widescreen on 3ds.... first you need to have twilight menu with widescreen active... then on TWLmenu settings turn on last played rom on startup, then play any game on widescreen then exit.... after that go to fbi>titles> then delete twilight menu++ Last run rom.... then the next time you go to twilight menu it will crash or glitch... the next time you boot your twilight menu gui it will be on widescreen and also all your forwarder nds games also your nds cart games will be widescreen... but not all games will boot some will get the screen software closed...ive try it on my 3 3ds and all the same result.... just dont blame me if anything goes wrong on your 3ds ... sorry for my bad english... thanks

You need to install Java to run the .jar file.

Whenever I try to run Forwarder3DS, nothing opens, and when I check task manager java doesn't appear. When I try and run it through cmd I get:

Error: Could not find or load main class com.olmectron.forwarder.Forwarder3DS
Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javafx/application/Application

Help?

Can I ask about a specific title? I have a DS game that was translated (Soma Bringer) which, after following this process, works perfectly but has an incorrect appearence on the file browser. Specifically, it looks completely white and blank. I assume this has something to do with it being a patched translation. Is this a known issue and how to solve it?

It's related to the filename being too long.

Many thanks. I solved it by following this guide (minus the cheats part, which was not relevant)

https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-fix-soma-bringer-title.167961/

Can I ask one final question: Can I safely delete the forwarder***.cia files from the cia folder after successful installation?
And, do I have to keep both the original .nds and the forwarder***.nds files in the roms/nds folder?

1. Yes.
2. Only delete the forwarder .nds file.

So, what is the purpose of the forwarder .nds files? I will delete these then (which means I can leave only the normal .nds files as far as I understand this advice).
The forwarder .nds is converted to a CIA by Forwarder3-DS.
You can keep them or disable them, as an option.

So I tried updating and reinstalling Java, still nothing opened. I tried to run it through cmd and I got the same error as before:
Code:
Error: Could not find or load main class com.olmectron.forwarder.Forwarder3DS
Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javafx/application/Application
Any help would be appreciated, I've been struggling to get this to work for a week now.

After you extract the pack for your card, you can edit "sd:/nds/ntr_forwarder.ini" and change one of the settings. This isn't possible for SD Card, Acekard RPG, R4 DS, and R4i Gold RTS.
  • NTRCLOCK: If set to 0 or if A is held, the DSi boot screen will appear instead of the normal DS splash, and TWL clock speed is used, so lags begone.
    (Not for SD card users, as that setting is in nds-bootstrap.ini, as BOOST_CPU.)
  • DISABLEANIMATION: If set to 1 or if B is held, the DS/DSi boot screen is skipped.
  • HEALTHSAFETYMSG: If set to 1, the boot screen's H&S message will appear on the bottom screen. If set to 0, the bottom screen stays white with no H&S message.
  • SOUND_FREQ: (Only for games on SD card.) If set to 1, sound will play at 48khz, instead of 32khz.

Okay, I know this is in the first post, but I need some help fully understanding the functionality of ntr_forwarder.ini and nds-boostrap.ini.

I currently have not touched these files, on two different 3DS systems, yet I am getting wildly different results. To begin with, one of my 3DS systems boots with a DSi logo, while the other boots through a black screen. I can also swear that the DSi boot 3DS plays Professor Layton games without stuttering (or, at least, they are fixed if I close and reopen the game via Home button) while the other 3DS stutters no matter what in the boot screen.

I can also see that both of these files are updated on the fly based on the last game run/played. For example, the NDS_PATH and SAV_PATH in nds-boostrap.ini will get updated automatically based on the last game run. Similarly, the ntr-forwarder will automatically change the NDS_PATH line to the most recent game run.

However, these two files are different between my two systems. Specifically, the stuttering 3DS has the following:

ntr_forwarder.ini

[NTR-FORWARDER]
NDS_PATH = sd:/roms/nds/***.nds

[where *** is the path of the most recent game]

nds-bootstrap.ini

[NDS-BOOTSTRAP]
NDS_PATH = sd:/roms/nds/***.nds
SAV_PATH = sd:/roms/nds/saves/***.sav
DONOR_SDK_VER = 0
GAME_SOFT_RESET = 0
PATCH_MPU_REGION = 0
PATCH_MPU_SIZE = 0
CARDENGINE_CACHED = 0
CONSOLE_MODEL = 2
LANGUAGE = -1

Whereas the non-stuttering 3DS has the following:
[NTR-FORWARDER]
DISABLE_ANIMATION = 0
HEALTH&SAFETY_MSG = 0
BOOTSTRAP_INI = sd:/_nds/nds-bootstrap.ini
BOOTSTRAP_FILE = 0
NDS_PATH = sd:/roms/nds/***.nds

[NDS-BOOTSTRAP]
NDS_PATH = sd:/roms/nds/***.nds
SAV_PATH = sd:/roms/nds/saves/***.sav
BOOST_CPU = 0
DEBUG = 0
LOCK_ARM9_SCFG_EXT = 0
DONOR_SDK_VER = 0
GAME_SOFT_RESET = 0
PATCH_MPU_REGION = 0
PATCH_MPU_SIZE = 0
CARDENGINE_CACHED = 1
CONSOLE_MODEL = 2

I basically see different/more entries on each file which I do not understand. I am also not quite sure how to force BOOST_CPU (does 1 mean it is ON and 0 mean it is OFF?); and what 'CARDENGINE_CACHED' does. Can someone explain all these settings; what I should or should not touch; and what effect each has in practice? Why my settings (.ini) files miss the SOUND_FREQ option? I have also seen BOOST_VRAM = 1 around. What does that do?
As expected for this thread, I am only using this method to play DS games on my 3DS, specifically installing CIAs using the forwarder method from the initial post.

Your help is especially welcome.

I'm on version 2.9.6. The program creates a generated folder, but it doesn't actually put any files in it. I'm unable to select a target in the jar file, as well. I wanted to know if there was a way to fix it.

EDIT: I opened the program via Terminal window. Clicking on any of the games gives a NullPointerException in the JavaFX Application Thread, clicking on target does pretty much nothing, and generating the CIAs also gives a NullPointerException in the JavaFX Application Thread.

EDIT: lol pc didn't have java on it, sorry

Did you follow all steps of "Part 1: Getting the forwarder pack"?

There are steps in the first post on how to make your own forwarder CIAs.

Hm.. I'm getting a white screen error with games that used to work fine. Things were fine and now for no apparent reason some titles are stuck showing a white screen. Any ideas?
