I opened up my N2DS XL and closed it back up. I remember removing some ribbon cables and putting them back in. Pressed the power button but only blue light then fading away after half a second. I can give you a video If it helps...

Thanks for listening to me and trying to help.

Possible causes:
  • If custom firmware is installed, boot.firm cannot be found on the SD and no backup copy of this file exists on CTRNAND
  • You did not properly connect one or more ribbon cable(s).
  • You accidentally damaged one or more ribbon cable(s) and/or connector(s).
Make sure boot.firm is present on a FAT32 formatted micro-SD inserted to the N2DSXL if CFW is installed.
Else you have no choice but to open the console again and double check all ribbons and connectors. (Maybe upload good, detailed pictures).

Not finding hardware components makes the 2|3DS consoles mostly shutoff immediately, sometimes with a popping sound.
The blue LED slowly fading off is in general related to missing/not found boot.firm. But it could be both.

Troubleshooting this can be a pain.

I had CFW on my n2dsxl, but I did something wrong in godmode and it would start blacking out. I did a factory reset on it, and it stopped. I then added luma before anything else, and guess what? It gave me some lines of code, then it disappeared. Until I opened it, It was working.

The first and easiest thing to try is putting latest Luma3DS (boot.firm) on a different empty and FAT32 formatted micro-SD. If the N2DSLX does not boot with this micro-SD… it is most likely a hardware problem. These connectors are really flimsy and finnicky. You have to carefully double and triple check each connector and cable.

To the root of the SD?

Not fading… then it is hardware related. Sorry, you have no choice but to check the inside.

At least you helped me.
Well… there is nothing more I can do over the internet. Maybe get somebody to help you if you don't feel like doing it alone. It can't get much worse than it is now if you carefully open the N2DSXL again.
I repeat: with detailed pictures somebody might be able to help finding the problem.

Good luck.

Do you hear a popping sound when the light turns off? One of the screen ribbon cables is either not properly connected or broken.

Wait, If I factory reset it, will the boot.firm be needed?
