Yay I save 2Mb on a 2GB file :toot:
1572032899-index.png
The average saving is much higher. I tested this format months ago and I compressed 500GB down to 400GB. 20% (100GB) is quite a respectable amount.

Though I believe the average is a lot higher now, around 30%

Is this true?
Then excuse me, I read in some threads it was about 2%

Dude, it looks like you think that the scene is yours: your primary purpose is to impose your format in every title installer... but all of them aren't yours. Nevertheless, you have to mess up the FREAKING ENTIRE SCENE just to fulfil that.

But what if the other devs don't like idea? Eh, fuck that, will make a fork of ALL DAMN INSTALLERS (even dead ones like original Tinfoil) just to do it. Scene isn't yours, mate. No, you can't handle a "no", you always will have to do whatever you want, no matter if its adding a feature in another dev's project. Not to mention your manners.

I do not believe the scene is mine. I believe every person does their own part, and collectively we all make the scene great. My apps would not be nothing without SciresM , hexkyz, fincs, naelwhart, yellows8, wintermute occasionally when he can tame his autism, etc. I criticize their behavior, often times criticize design decisions, but I have nothing but the upmost respect for their work, despite the disrespect they show mine. Everyone plays their part, including you and I.

I knew the minute I saw Nico's thread 7 months ago, that compressed NSZ's were the future. I had some concerns with his implementation, but I knew he was 80% there with the solid idea, just needed to be tweaked for wide spread adoption. I saw your own interest in compressed NSP's as well, perhaps I was naive but Ithought if there was one thing we could come together to achieve, it would be this. This is not destroying the scene, this is progressing the scene. I know people generally dislike change, especially when it is pushed by someone they dislike.

Do not act in bad faith like you were left out of this, you know I spoke to you about this weeks before I released, trying to get you on board. You could have been part of the process, but you decided not to be. Additionally, the spec is still evolving, if you have any suggestions or concerns I know @nicoboss would love to hear them. You say "no" but then do not offer any compromise or suggestions? Just no? That is the thought process that messes up scenes, not new compression standards.

As for forking all of the installers. There really cant be two standards, given enough time one standard will dominate. NSP is already entrenched, it will take a concerted community effort to upend this. This simply will not happen if Tinfoil is the only installer that supports it. I have to have support in the other installers, it is not an option. Believe me, it would please me for goldleaf to not support it and bleed users to tinfoil over it, however that is toxic and would only hurt the scene. You left me no choice but to fork Goldleaf. I checked my ego at the door to fork your software, for the scene. You should do the same.

Just end this shit right now @XorTroll , accept a NSZ PR from me, I delete my fork, scene wins, we all have a good weekend. You do not even have to write a single line of code, just swallow a little bit of pride for the scene.

It’s okay, sometimes people get told the wrong information ^_^.

But yes it is true. There are some games that don’t compress very well, only like 5-10% but there are some that can compress as much as 70%.

I find it interesting that, while I agree with almost everything you say here, it contradicts some of your recent behavior. You talk about how toxic behavior isn't good and would only hurt the scene, but then you force malware (your Atmosphere fork) onto users who use Atmosphere and want to use Tinfoil or HBG, merely because you don't personally like vanilla Atmosphere, not because it solves any real problem. You post screenshots about @XorTroll hypothetically sabotaging SX OS users, but you do the same thing to Atmosphere users, and not hypothetically.
  • If you care about the scene, as you claim, you'll stop forcing your Atmosphere fork onto users of Atmosphere who want to use Tinfoil/HBG.
  • If XorTroll cares about the scene, he will either implement NSZ or accept that there will be NSZ forks without complaining about it.
Depending on which situation we're talking about, you're both being immature.

Finally someone sensible on this thread, not looking for drama but reality...

I shouldn't have to explain this but fuck it:

Someone saying "we don't help with X/please don't recommend X" here isn't inciting to start drama. It means "this isn't the support chat for X, go to Xs support chat instead".

And yeah, GoldBricks is basically just a very transparent troll attempt to turn the community on XorTroll by making him look bad. Quite a shame that GBATemp isn't really capable of picking up on this very transparent trolling.

When you make the changes after the fork was released, and blacklist all blawar and reinx software, yeah, it is to incite drama... Not like anyone uses that discord server anyways...and goldbricks fills a need the original dev refused to fill. That is the beauty of open source software.

it was not simpler to simply call this fork "Goldleaf"
Rather than the so-called GoldBricks with I do not know how much of the same / screen discord out of context?

as always a lot of speech for not much, ink used to spread hatred ...
It's crazy what the switch scene is exasperating.

No, it means "this is stuff that I notice keeps causing troubles/stuff that is out of scope for stuff my guild is about, so I don't want my guild to cover this stuff".

Also "goldbricks fills a need the original dev refused to fill." It's a nice argument, except it's entirely undermined by the fact blawar already has DZ and has a history of forking/making software to cause drama (Lithium, which funnily enough shows up in the similar threads here and SX Installer, which featureset included a specific spite feature towards m4xw.)

So, stop pretending and hiding behind some flimsy excuse. This software is purely a trolling attempt on blawars end.

I find all the drama funny. But I have seen plenty of people asking for nsz support and now they have it. If Xortroll is butthurt his open source goldleaf got forked, so be it

Tinfoil works on both stock atmosphere and kosmos, you only need to load it from a nsp forwarder.

Either of them can do whatever they want with their apps, one of them is free software and the other one isn't. I really liked tinfoilmod but it wont happen again apparently.

@blawar I have a question. When do you think will it be possible to have block compression support for your title installers (goldbrick, tinfoil, lithium, tinfoil 0.3.0)? I really wanted to improve ryjin to ver 2 but I am still waiting for the intallers to support block compression for nsz.

You do realize that's exactly the point people are trying to make right? That the Atmos fork is pointless because all you need is a forwarder, yet the fork is forced onto people as if nothing else ever worked? also what do you mean one is free software and the other isn't? They're both free...or did you mean one is open source and the other isn't?
