I had never forgot my login password on Windows 7 and XP but this is not the case for Windows 10 as it forces me to change password once per month, which ends up messing the password.

There is a disc you can burn (probably USB now) that lets you change the password.

Never forgot my password, BUT I forgot my passcode for my phone, because I changed it when I was totally shit faced (to stop me from texting my crush, guess it worked) had to factory reset the damn thing and lost all my photos and conversations, so that was fun!

On Win7, my uncle bought my cousin a laptop and he fucking forgot the password. I had to fix it. I remember downloading some ISO and it let me reset the password.

There are many ways to get into a PC if you have access to the local network, unpassworded accounts just makes it way easier. You need access to the PC to begin with to install a RAT.

True, although even an infected email without even being on the same network allows for installing RATs VERY easily, pretty much all major online money thefts have happened through random infected spam email attachements just to give you an idea of how easy it is... but I see your point.

That only works with local accounts. My system is set up with Microsoft accounts that won’t show up with such SuperUser tools like the one you’re thinking of.

Password expiry is usually set in policy. The default for home PCs is for passwords that never expire, but that can always be changed by any admin user.

Best practice is to have an admin account with a secure password (using a MS account, not local) or biometrics if available, then have every user on a standard MS account. This limits access and makes it harder for malicious files to run (since they’d need an exploit for elevated access, which get patched every month).

Studies also show that being forced to change your password regularly is actually worse for security as it encourages people to write them down somewhere. Biometrics are really the way to go if your hardware supports it.

Edit: also, setting up with MS accounts also helps for recovery options. There are self-service password reset tools as long as you set up MFA, and you can even recover Bitlocker lockout if you’re connected to a MS account.

But if it's a Microsoft account you can just use their password reset feature.

Somewhat... I am pretty much forced to reuse the same passwords or it'd be insanity with the amount of pc's I test. So there have been a few retries for using an old one, but never locked out (unless I can blame my colleagues... They're not as consistent with passwords or proper typing, sooo...).

What I hate is that when first starting windows 10 it wants to create a local account /password... And three stupidly easy questions. I get that they want to avoid people forgetting their passwords, but this decors the body purpose.

You : dang it! I had to change it two days ago into something that contained a capital letter, a number, a symbol and two Egyptian hieroglyph. How could I hash forgotten that?
MS: that's okay... If you can tell me where you were born, I'm give you access as well?

To be more accurate, it is a password reset disk. you can create it with the default option since windows 7

In the 6 years i have been using computer,i have forgotten my password 3 times .Twice I forgot to write down the new password.....
The last time, for reasons unknown, the computer kept saying the password was wrong.Fortunately, I got them all back in the end.

In my opint,they are do a pretty good job for Windows password problem.
