I have updated my emunand to 8.1.0 with exfat support, but I am still having problems installing nsps from usb with tinfoil. I have a exfat formatted usb with the folders tinfoil\nsp with nsp-files in it. When I choose usb install nsp in tinfoil i get "Waiting for usb to be ready".

When I first set up custom firmware I ran into a problem when using my phone as a mobile hotspot. When I use my Samsung Galaxy S7 android phone to connect to the Internet using the Pegascape DNSs I don't get a registration prompt. I shut down the switch and used my router instead and it worked like it supposed to. Is there some setting I can change on the phone to make it work? I can't seem to find many settings related to mobile hotspot.

The reason I want to use the phone is that when I am travelling I want to be able to boot Hekate if the system should crash.

Also, it takes a lot of tries everytime I use pegascape to boot to hekate. Is that normal and is there any way of improving the success rate?

So, I read the instructions for tinfoil and it seems that you can't use a usb drive to install nsps, you have to connect the switch to a pc if i understand it correctly.

The error is
Error:0x222a02
Modules: FS (2)
Description: Unknown or undocumented error (4373)

Also all the games I have before updating to the latest cfw and atmos work fine still.
Would really appreciate some help thanks.

Trying to do everything right, then just stuck
I got unpatched brand new Switch, it's on 4.1.0, hackable with Fusee Gelee. I got 128gb microSD, formatted it to fat32 (so it doesn't require update). Installed Kefir on the MicroSD (still not sure what for), managed to enter RCM with a pin, sent Hekate payload via TegraRCM, performed the backups needed (sysnand, boot1+boot0, lockpin), saved the "virgin" backups.

1) What's next? I want to make EmuNand with working Atmosphere and SysNand for occasional buys (Labo, collectors editions whatever). Some guides say I need an Exfat card, some say "Only fat32". On the Hekate github, I read "EmuMMC function removed until it's fixed", do I use the previous version? But is it broken?
2) Do I update the system and create Nintendo account normally via Sysnand (burning the fuses) or do I use ChoiDuJour for this one? If the second option, when I restore the clean Sysnand, it will see the unburnt fuses, but does it matter with unpatched Switch?
3) Is connecting to Wi-Fi for Tinfoil and Homebrew different from Wifi for playing online? Do both require making myself incognito and use DNS first?

Thanks a bunch) - instructions everywhere are unclear and contradictory.

Hello all,

I apologize if this has been answered, i searched and couldnt find anything.

I restored my nand backup successfully, but my switch had my create a new nintendo folder on the root of the SD. I tried simply using my backup, but it wouldnt let me.

So i proceeded, made a new one and moved everything from my backup to the new.

However, i dont see any of my games installed. I assume i have to fix the "link/shortcut" from the homescreen to where they are located in the nintendo folder. I just have no idea how to do this.

Does this make sense? Is it possible? I'd really like to try and avoid redownloading everything

Is a 64gb micro sd enough to do the hackig process smoothly and still have space foir a couple of games at a time, or its a 128gb one almost mandatory?
Which brands are the preferred ones?

Hi, all. I had 2 questions:

1) Can I install a DLC nsp file for a game that I bought from eShop?
2) How can I backup my saves into my laptop?

Thanks.

  1. Yes.
  2. Backup your save decrypted save files using Checkpoint.

Most people would recommend 128 GB, but it's not mandatory.

How to upgrade my switch cfw sd card (I have Reinx)
If you're not using emuNAND, just copy everything from the old SD card to the new SD card. It is also recommended that you format the new SD card has FAT32 before doing this.

I can't seem to turn on my switch anymore. It appears unresponsive when I turn it on. When using TegraRcmGUI the screen loads the payload (hekate) for a second then the screen turns black. Sometimes it shows another loading screen for atmosphere for another split second.

I had just booted up hekate for the first time, turned auto rcm on, backed up my nand, and turned it off so I could transfer the backup to my pc. My switch is an unpatched model. Anyonw know how to get my switch working again?
Try using TegraRCMSmash instead of TegraRCMGUI as the GUI is a bit buggier than the original. Also, make sure to power cycle your Switch (i.e. perform a manual shutdown then turn it on again)

  1. You only need exFAT if you are using the file based method which is not recommended to use in the first place as file based is incredibly slow. FAT32 is fine for emuMMC. And what is broken is the Stock mode of emuMMC
  2. Kefir should have already linked a Nintendo Account however the account it links predisposes you to a very high risk of a ban if you bring the console online. If you want to bring the console online, you will have to restore a clean NAND backup made before using Kefir. The mismatched fuse count should also not be an issue. If you do not want to update the console online, ChoiDujour only supports up to firmware 6.1. However ChoiDujourNX supports all firmware versions and is easier to use.
  3. Playing online requires communicating through Nintendo's servers. Using the homebrew app store or other applications require a network connection that is generally supplemented with Wi-Fi but does not require going through Nintendo's servers. If you want to use them safely without worrying about a ban, then you can enable 90DNS or Incognito however Incognito has not been proven to prevent a ban as console-specific information is stored in places that it does not wipe

If the NAND backup was made before those games were installed, you will have to reinstall the games.

It's been since mario U that i updated anything. I have SX os running pro 2.8 I am at 5.1 firmware. I have a nand backup and it says emunand enabled. I do not own any games So i only boot into the sx cfw when i use the switch games i have downloaded.

If i want to take a chance and play say tetris 99 or some other game online that is NOT a nsp... What is the recommended process with the least chance of getting banned? I fully understand there is a chance of a ban. Is there any other precautions i should take? Right now i run only in airplane mode and it's been like that since i believe 4.1 and i realize i need to take that off to play online.

Thank you

Will

Restore your clean NAND backup and play online in sysNAND. In order to do so, you will have to update the firmware of your SysNAND. If you wish to burn fuses, locking you out of exploits on lower firmware versions thus having you rely on the Fusee Gelee exploit to boot CFW for a very long time if not forever, then you can update it normally through Nintendo. However if you wish to play online without burning fuses, you have 3 options:
  1. Using the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX. This requires CFW & homebrew making it the riskiest method in terms of a ban when updating without burning fuses but it is the easiest and fastest
  2. Updating online with AutoRCM enabled. Normally AutoRCM is removed during system updates. However non-SX CFW (e.g. Atmosphere/ReiNX) prevent this from happening allowing users to update normally without worrying about fuses. This method requires only CFW making it safer than using ChoiDujourNX but still has a risk. This is the method that I personally use. In order to minimize risk, you can download the update in Stock mode or OFW, remove Wi-Fi settings after it finishes downloading, then reboot into either Atmosphere or ReiNX (SX OS does not have this feature and may never attain it) and install the system update. To trigger the update, simply try launching any title
  3. Manually rebooting into RCM after installing a system update. Since AutoRCM is removed after a system update and AutoRCM helps prevent fuses from being burnt, there is a way to save fuses without CFW and with AutoRCM alone. This method involves using your jig or something equivalent to enter RCM when the console reboots after installing a firmware update. This is by far the riskiest method out of all three in terms of burning your fuses because if your jig or equivalent fails to boot you into RCM, you will burn fuses. However it is also the safest method in terms of a ban. If you wish to follow a step-by-step guide, you can follow this thread

How do I use emummc? I'm currently on cfw atmosphere 8.0.1 and i've never been online. I have a NAND backup from 3.0.0 I also have autorcm and have not burned fuses. Do I need to downgrade to 3.0.0 first? will i lose my saves on sysnand?

You can setup emuMMC at any point. In fact, it is better for you to setup emuMMC before you restore a NAND backup as emuMMC is merely a copy of your sysMMC. Restoring a NAND backup reverts your console to the state it was in when you made that backup so any save data made after that point will be lost after the restoration.

1) Only use FAT32.
2) If you want to keep the SysNAND clean, you have to update with official system update which burns fuses. If you really care about not burning fuses, there are some guides which explain how to update a clean NAND without burning fuses. An unpatched switch will be always hackable but in case future exploits release for a lower firmware, it's good to simply go back.

Either turn off your console and eject or reboot to hekate and eject. Or use NXMTP to copy files while your switch is running.
