Hi, thanks for your response!

Is the big silver ribbon cable not sufficient for the wii detecting the drive? I was under the assumption that the cable I unplugged merely powered the motors to insert/eject the disc.

As I said, games do launch. They crash sometimes. I'm under the impression that a completely unplugged drive will make games crash every time, so if that does not occur, would the issue lie on the unplugged cable, or might it be something else?
Thank you.:)

It is hard to tell.It could maybe some "software" issue like the cIOSes you use.I recommend to concentrate on this.If the Games STARTS then that step with the CABLE is maybe ok.
I would trying replace your cIOSes Slot 249 (Base 56) + Slot 250 (Base 57) d2x-v10beta52 with the cIOSes Slot 249 (Base 57) + Slot 250 (Base 56) d2x-v8final instead.It is worth a try.

Yes I also think so.:)

I've updated the cIOS as you mentioned to no avail. I used ModMii to download the WADs and installed cIOS249[57]-d2x-v8-final and cIOS250[56]-d2x-v8-final.
The Wii crashed in the same way after the 3rd attempt at launching Sonic Colors.

EDIT: Now my Wii crashes when just powering on.. The menu loads and a few seconds later, it crashes.

EDIT 2: I'm starting to suspect perhaps RiiConnect24 is the culprit, but how? The reason I suspect it is because the disc illumination light turns on just as the Wii crashes. I've disabled WiiConnect24 in the settings and it no longer crashes. I've sat at the Wii menu for over a minute now and all is fine and dandy.
I've actually had this happen to me before, and it got fixed by turning off WiiConnect24 and then turning it back on. It's very strange. I can receive messages from my email just fine, and I haven't sent myself anything just now so that's not the cause.

Ok something has "changed" that means it has maybe really to do with the cIOSes.:)

Please try this one:

cIOS 249 (57) -dx2-v10-beta53-alt
cIOS 250 (56) -dx2-v10-beta53-alt

EDIT: ModMii suggests this also now I see.:rofl2:

Maybe these are working better.:)

Considering the 2 edits I made, would you still say I should follow through with what you just said, or might it be something else?

Please try these too and if it not works then we have to look into the "Cable" thing again maybe.:)
Okay, will do. I just tested launching Colors 3 times again and it crashed on the third time again, so the earlier crashing at the Wii menu might have been a different issue altogether. I'll try the cIOS's you just mentioned and reply to your post again.

Maybe thats is also a possibility:

RiiConnect uses an "patched" IOS 31.You can also try it to change it.:)

Ah, how would you recommend I change it? I'm not too well versed in all this, all I know is how to follow ModMii pretty much lol. I don't want to go and make things worse on my own.

Download it with ModMii on Page 1.:)

but note Riiconnect/News Channel/Weather Channel works no longer (can not longer receive Data) after that change !!

Make it yourself simple.:D

Please Drag and Drop your LAST sysCheck.csv on the ModMii.exe or ModMii´s Shortcut on your PC.It opens the update Log for your sysCheck automatically.:)
Ah, okay, will do. As an update, the latest cIOS you had me install did not help either I'm afraid :( I'll post another update once I fix the RiiConnect24 IOS

If that not works, then install your original cIOSes from before we changed something:

IOS250[57] (rev 65535, Info: d2x-v10beta52)

Another Question please:

Which USBLoader and Version do you use please ?
Is your USB device a HDD or a USB Stick/Drive ?

Thank you.:)

I use Wii Flow Master Mod, the one with the ability to launch Gamecube games using Nintendont. I'm using a 64 GB Kingston USB 3.0 Flash Drive (I'm aware the Wii only supports USB 2.0 speeds).

ModMii had me download 2 WADs to update my hacks: IOS80v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP]) and IOS31-64-v3608. I've installed them both, now testing.

Damn, now the Wii crashed after the second attempt at launching Sonic Colors. This is very strange. I'll try this specific test in another Wii using the same USB and SD card, just to make sure it's not the USB.

Please try a HDD.Sorry I forget to ask you this FIRST,it is my fault.:(

USB FLASH Drives (if used please ONLY formatted to FAT32) have the characteristic to not work 100 percent properly/correct on USB Loaders.:(

Oh, is that a fact? Well, this at least puts me at some ease knowing that it's not the fault of my Wii. I'm unfortunately unable to use an HDD.

I'm launching Sonic Colors over and over on my other Wii using the same SD and USB so if it crashes in the same way, I can rest easy knowing this was always an issue and I've just never bothered testing this way by launching a game and returning to the Wii menu over and over again.

YES that is a FACT.:D
If you read through USB Loader Thread(s) you will find MANY users who struggle with that theme.:(
And our official USBLoaderGX Support Master @Cyan will confirm that with great pleasure.

Again,I am very sorry to overlook this important thing.Sorry,it was my mistake.:(
