There are guides and tutorials either made or endorsed by developers however none of them are in video format for the reasons I have listed. Here are three different guides that are highly endorsed by their respective CFWs. Anyways, I would still advise against following that video as it can lead to a brick much like the thread you linked earlier.

Thanks, appreciate the help!
Yeah, the AtlasNX guide is the one I've followed for setting up CFW and everything.

Which part of the process specifically can lead to a brick, is the risk one of user error in that the tools themselves can easy lead to a brick if you accidentally do something wrong, or does the process just carry the random unavoidable chance of bricking the console?

Also, is it known whether or not the console's factory reset erases all non-essential (potentially modified) system files?

Apologies for all the questions, just trying to get as clear a picture as possible on my options.

You are deleting files in your NAND. This is equivalent to manually removing files in the SYSTEM32 folder on your computer so the process itself carries a chance of a brick.

And I would assume a factory reset removes non-essential files. Maybe not all of them but I do not believe it touches any essential ones.
@Draxzelex any new/weird ways people getting banned for year 2019?
Aside from the fact that the last banwave which was yesterday targeted mainly SX OS users, not really no.

Yes, all of these bans are from users who have not been using emuNAND which not only reinforces how safe emuNAND is but also how unsafe it is to not use emuNAND.

Hi. I'm thinking of upgrading my switch to FW 8.1.0 by my OFW. But I want to preserve the efuses. So I thought I'd start my OFW to connect to the internet and then upgrade. At the end of the installation instead of restarting I thought about turning off the switch completely and then using the jig to enter RCM and start HEkate and then activate auto rcm again and only then start OFW. My goal is to leave my OFW as clean as possible and also preserve the effuses. But at the same time that I will use my OFW online. Will this procedure easily lead me to ban? Or are there tangible possibilities for me not to be banned?

Thank you.

The issue here is not whether or not that method is clean which it is. The problem is that if your jig fails to short pin 10 and thus boot into RCM, you will burn fuses. I only recommend attempting such a procedure if your jig has a 100% success rate at entering RCM or if you do not mind the risk of burning fuses at the cost of keeping the console free of CFW & homebrew.

Thank you for your help. But a have an good jig. In simple words my question is how safe is it to use AUTO RCM online? Can nintendo be able to see AUTO RCM through Horizon?

No one has been banned for only having AutoRCM enabled so in my opinion, it is pretty safe although that can change in a future firmware update. Personally, I have been using AutoRCM online for months without issue. Couple that with the lack of data that suggests Nintendo is tracking AutoRCM and you should be fine.

Is it safe to say that sxos "stealth" mode is no longer an effective means avoiding bans then? I would assume so, given the number of sxos user bans in the last few days.

This is my issue with stuff like "Stealth Mode", "90DNS", "Incognito", or even "Airplane Mode". Notice how they are not mentioned at all in the survey. That is because these aren't designed to prevent bans, they simply delay the ban. The whole point of these tools simulate a ban so you will never know if you are or are not banned until you stop using the tool in which case you will most likely get banned unless you have a clean NAND dump.

Finally banned. Using SXOS since it launched. I'd grab updates from XCIs in OFW that's I'd loaded in SXOS on sysnand. I guess that's no longer safe.

Was starting the process to mod my Switch. My fingers slipped and I accidentally injected the Fusee_Atmosphere payload instead of Hekate and booted into Atmosphere on sysnand. I was offline and didn't launch any Homebrew, but I imagine I'm still likely screwed as I hadn't made a clean NAND backup yet. I imagine it won't be an instant ban, but should I expect an eventual ban over the next few days/weeks/months? Checked the spreadsheet and it does seem like people were banned for simply booting into Atmosphere back at the end of 2018, but nothing recent.

Can you please fill out the form in the first post? Thank you in advance!

Atmosphere was a much different beast at the end of 2018 than it is now. Others have claimed that people have not been banned for merely booting Atmosphere although I would personally disagree. That being said, only Nintendo knows if you will be banned or not.

tl;dr, I've used SXOS since initial release. Stayed strictly offline (no wifi settings) until stealth-mode was released. XCIs loaded while on sysnand(sxos), XCIs never played online, updated games in OFW. I'd only ever installed/run NPS and homebrew in SX emunand (stealth-mode enabled). Never run atmosphere, but have loaded Linux.

I'm surprised how long it took to get banned, over a year. I'd guess either a failure of SX's stealth mode (an XCI or NSP phoned home when loaded in SXOS), or Nintendo has inserted something in newer firmwares to flag consoles that load SXOS and that's phoned home in OFW.

At this point I think it's safe to say the only way to stay un-banned is to limit funny business strictly to offline emunand (unless Nintendo is doing something REALLY sneaky like leaving a fingerprint on the joycons or phoning home that RCM has been entered, which I doubt).

Based on what you have written. It seems they manage to sniff you out when you updated the xci files while on OFW. But don’t quote me on that, though it’s the only explanation I can see
