I'm trying to get as much feedback on this as possible:

-Have Wii U BOTW.
-Dumped save
-Converted to Switch format (conversion only, no editing)
-Vanilla Switch with no use of CFW whatsoever
-Planning on using Atmosphere to run Checkpoint and inject the save
-Intention of going back to OFW and connect online as usual.
-Will I be banned for doing so?

I've heard different opinions. Some say I won't get banned, some say I will.
I'd even read something about Atmosphere clearing logs precisely so I don't get banned.
Can someone shed some light into this?
You run CFW and go online after? That’s enough for getting banned. We can’t tell you that you get banned but the chances are there and your the one who takes the risk or not.

Thanks for replying.
Yeah, I know it's risky, but I want to know if there's someone who's done something as specific as that and got banned.
I thought running emulators or pirating games were things that caused ban.
I didn't know the sole fact of running CFW once practically bans a console.

In this thread (https://gbatemp.net/threads/copying...hout-ban-risking-mods-on-newer-switch.523805/) the following instructions were shared related to transfering into a normal Switch:
1) Backup save from hacked switch with Checkpoint
2) Turn airplane mode on normal switch
2.5) Move save file onto other SD card you will use for your normal switch and put that in your switch
3) Boot into CFW with hekate on normal switch with jig, no layeredfs or anything
4) Replace save file on normal switch with one from hacked one with Checkpoint
5) Power off system
6) Turn normal switch back on, turn off airplane mode

And in this one (https://gbatemp.net/threads/anyone-get-banned-by-just-backing-up-game-saves-on-switch.514875/), it's explicitly said: no one has been banned JUST for using save dumping homebrew

And in this one (https://gbatemp.net/threads/will-i-get-banned-when-i-use-checkpoint-for-save-edit.512453/), some people say it's safe and some say it's banneable.

That's why it's so difficult to take a decision here :(

It‘s totally bannable since your break the rules which you agreed by using Nintendo product. Also if no one has been banned yet, doesn’t mean that you will be safe in the future. If you really care about not being banned, don’t go online without clean NAND.

But if I clear NAND I would be coming back into a version of NAND where the save was never injected, correct?
And then, I would simply be coming back to square one.

I installed CFW(ReiNX) way back when it was first release. and basically haven touched the switch since then, so i forgot everything about modding the switch. But should i just update to the last firmware and ReiNX(i assum still the best cfw?) is there any new tool i should download?

Does EdiZon work on reinx as well?

how do i move from ReiNX to Atmosphere?

I am using SX OS 2.7.1(beta) and have OFW installed via the offline HB App 8.0.1. I cannot get it to boot. I get an error 2168-0002. How can I correct this issue?

None of the tools that people use to fly under Nintendo's radar are installed on the SD card. This applies to Incognito, 90DNS, Stealth Mode, Airplane Mode, removing Wi-Fi settings, etc.

Just curious on the history on homebrew/CFW, how long did the Switch scene take to get a fully working CFW and backup launcher/installer in comparison to the 3DS scene?

While I have been following the Switch scene very closely a short while before Fusee Gelee was leaked/released, I was not very familiar with the 3DS scene which caused me to do some research in case you weren't aware of its history. At least I was educated on how the 3DS scene evolved over the years.

The Switch came out in March 2017 while CFW was being developed as early as January 2018. However the only exploit at that time was PegaSwitch which was only good up to firmware 3.0 and wasn't enough to enable CFW. Then once ktemkin, fail0verflow, and even TX teased they had an unpatchable exploit, it would eventually lead up to the release of the exploit we all know and love as Fusee Gelee/shofel2/CVE-2018-6242. It was meant to be responsibly disclosed in late April for fail0verflow and June 15th for ktemkin but an anonymous source uploaded it to the Internet in mid April. Atmosphere, which was the only CFW in development at the time, wasn't in condition to be booted up until mid May and it was only limited to the homebrew menu. Similar to the 3DS scene, a Nintendo application known as DevMenu was leaked which had the ability to install .NSP file in late June. However no free CFW supported signature patches so it was useless to anyone not running SX OS. The issue with DevMenu though was that it was a copyrighted application meaning it could not be freely shared. That's when Adubbz saved the scene when user jjbredesen posted a thread documenting the work on a homebrew application that would install .NSP file, Tinfoil. Dating mid July, this tool mimicked only one feature of DevMenu which was installing .NSP files (DevMenu touted multiple features) and only worked for installing games you don't own when through SX OS but it was progress nonetheless. The last piece of the puzzle was signature patches which were finally released with the advent of ReiNX, ReiNAND but for the Nintendo Switch, on July 23rd.

For the 3DS, it seems free CFW achieved backup launching as of May 2015 with the release of Pasta CFW which integrated the leaked signature patches from RX Tools. However since the 3DS was released in 2011, it took much longer compared to the Switch scene. Gateway was released in 2013 which is already slower than Fusee Gelee and the first free CFW didn't come out until November 2014. For reference, I pulled these dates from Zoogie's timeline of the 3DS hacking history thread.

tldr
3/2017 Switch was released

1/2018 Free CFW in development

4/2018 Fusee Gelee leaked

5/2018 SX OS released as well as DevMenu being leaked

6/2018 Tinfoil began development and ReiNX came out as the first CFW with signature patches

what up guys, very new to switch scene, im getting my hands on a splatoon bundle console onthurs, its used but was told hardly played, and was told the serial is XAW1002 from what i read is exploitable, it was released in 2017.
my question is whats best way, i dont plan on using TX and do it myself. im no stranger to modding, i just need to know where to start and whats the most current way about going. i also noticed while searchng that there is a NSP and a XCi types of backups, whats the difference.
and the homebrew app/button/tab is that updated via SDcard or internet (guessing SDcard)
thanX in advance

The simple way to setup CFW would be to use one of those packs out there like Atlas' Kosmos, CFW ain't permanent, unless you have a modchip that is setup to autoboot to a specific CFW. To run the CFW you set the switch into RCM mode using a jig and push a payload either through a computer, phone, or an RCM dongle. XCI are Physical Card dump, and NSP are digital dumps, DLC and Updates are in NSP format. With SX OS you can run XCI off a HDD, and able to set up an Emunand.

As for Homebrew application you can either update them by replacing the older files with newer old via a computer or using the homebrew app store.

If you don't want to use autoRCM then you would need a jig everytime the unit cold boot, just that with autoRCM you have to pay attention to the battery life , don't let it ran out of juice or you might freak out a bit.

Chip option would be modchip, you need to solder some wires onto the switch using a chip that push the payload, with autorcm and the modchip you can set it to autoboot cfw.

Hi, I have a problem with the sx os Pro dongle and jig. My switch was sent in for repair cuz I messed up the sd memory card slot on the mother board. Result my switch was unable to read my sd memory. After repair, I checked and I was able to read my memory card. But when I tried booting it to sx os it kept showing me boot.dat? I m sure I placed the latest boot.dat on my root memory. Also I checked I can't inject payload even with atmosphere. Please help

Thank you for the great detailed information. So if I understand well... If I would backup a NAND from an older OFW to the system.. and the fuse check would be different because I would have burnt too many by updating to the latest OFX. the system would "panic" ending up with a black screen. The only way to start the switch again would be by using the jig and the SX dongle?

Hello all,

I see so many game updates passing by :) Now I was wondering.. should you only keep the latest update file in your directory or do you need to have each version of the update file. Maybe the last one also includes the previous updates in them.
I guess for the DLC files, you need each one of them.
Thx in advance for your help
