Persona 5S revealed as Persona 5: Scramble for the Nintendo Switch

We now know what the mysterious Persona 5S is. Atlus has announced Persona 5: Scramble - The Phantom Strikers. Developed in tandem with Omega Force and Koei Tecmo, the game will be a Musou-style action RPG. It'll launch on both the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

Shin Megami Tensei never was exclusive to Nintendo, they were multiplatform and even the Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne was exclusive to PlayStation 2 and Playstation 3. The first exclusive game for Nintendo was Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey.

The first one exclusive for Nintendo was Megaten II back in 1990 I guess, unless you consider that the game being ported to mobile 16 years later makes it "not exclusive" retroactively.

I would gladly direct you to this worldwide graph I made the other day:

View attachment 164924

And whatever happens in Japan, the worldwide trend makes it look like perhaps ports to the west will not be as profitable.

Even with a (generous) linear estimation on further sales, the Switch still falls behind the PS4 worldwide, it might hit PS3/360 sale numbers at EoL... only in a very wonderful best case scenario.

PS: I need to use this graph as many times as possible to justify the 15 minutes spent in gathering the data and plotting it.
PS4 also got a big bump on 3rd year, why not compare a linear PS4 / switch then? Linearity means nothing right now, factored with big first party games coming from Nintendo this year.

Nintendo overshipped last 2 FY if I'm not mistaken, and last FY they severely limits their shipment, to 16.95 m. Make sense though, they want to empty those inventories, preparing for next switch revision.

As for the topic, even if they released a portable ver. down the line, I swear I'm not gonna buy it lol. I'm that salty.

We are talking about Shin Megami Tensei a spinoff and sequel to Megami Tensei. Also Megami Tensei began being exclusive for PC in 1987 by Telnet

Tbh, I'm not that salty, because I was going to emulate it if it was ported to the Switch or not. :P I already played Persona 3 and 4 via emulator.

If I owned the PS4 version of P5, I'd be pretty pissed about P5R. Because all those hours sunk into the game, and they re release the same game, with a bit of extra on the same damn console, instead of giving us Person 6, or just making it DLC.

Hold up Musou style action RPG. I hope they aren't just throwing that word in because a musou style action game with RPG elements sounds amazing.
Well given Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors were very well done, I have high hopes for this title already. I really do think the spinoff Musou games are 100x better than the actual Warriors series these days.

Also I love how the music is always so distinctly Musou-y. You can immediately tell without words what it is.

i like how people are so butthurt about something atlus never promised
im not disappointed though, im just glad its even on the switch in the first place
i really like this idea, because of hyrule warriors, there are some kick ass remixes in there so i can't wait to see what the persona remixes are like

...and that's the only value that this game will have for yours truly: remixes. Because there's not enough of those!

Oh wait...

In all seriousness, while you could say that we never saw it coming, this wasn't a pleasant surprise like Joker being in Smash is all I'll say. If this were more of a Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. Whatever Enemy that sounds like it could be a Wrestler or Wrestling Stable in the WWE, then I might be more receptive. After all, what IS ATLUS doing with every spinoff of SMT not named Persona that isn't a port?

I'm just crying right now..

I know they did not promise anything... But they sure knew what they were teasing by calling it P5S :ninja::switch:

Maybe it would be better calling it P5W(arriors)..

It's also very likely that Switch sales figures will dramatically slump when Sony and Microsofts next gen systems launch - by how much they slump will depend on the new Switch revisions; how much they cost and whether they have 'improved' performance in any way.

It's a different market with no definitive proof of overlap imo, it's not like Ps4 vs Xbox one situation at all. People keep forgetting Switch is a hybrid with wildly different exclusives to support them.

Those who are interested in buying AC or Pokemon + $200 Switch lite will not even bat an eye for a new $400-500 next gen AAA console. At the start, main audiences would be gaming enthusiast like us, and hell we still bought a Switch (anecdotally). It's not a surprise, as Switch can be treated as complementary devices with the prospect of multiple Switches at home. At the end, classic console is a different albeit saturated market, and you're essentially forgetting how casual Switch can be.

Even Switch has in the portable mode the possibility of using its controls in separated, allowing a cooperative mode. Although I think that neither Pokemon Company took advantage of it in Let's Go, it had much more potential.

This is not what we meant by "put Persona 5 on Switch"! Frankly, I'm disappointed Atlus had the nerve to let the hype be as big as it was, then rip out the carpet right from under us. They could've at least noted on the website before the announcement that P5S was going to be a spin-off title.

No, I will not purchase a PS4 to play Persona 5. That's like $290 USD (minus shipping and tax) just to play one specific game and never touch the console again. Seems like a waste to me.
