https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-47867038 playstation 5 8k incoming

As I recall, japanese broadcast standard is aiming for 8k to future-proof a bit. 16k will be great for VR, but that kind of power is, what, a decade away?
But hey, with a screen that big, you might actually be able to see everyone on those giant maps in Smash Ultimate for once.

You don't want a 120" tv to replace your living room wall? to play snes games on? I think 16k is the absolute limit of film, so I can kind of understand that.I’m not fussed for 16K, I doubt I’ll ever have the eyesight or house big enough to make it worthwhile. Even 8K will be pushing it in my lounge.

Fun to dream for sure, but that sounds more like PS7 territory at the earliest. High-end PCs are just starting to do 4K at/above 60 FPS, so doing the same on PS5 would be around $1200. 4K at 30 FPS is doable for closer to what XB1X retails for, though. I'm just hoping that PS5 gives you the option to play in 1080p at 60 FPS, for PS4 games as well. You don't want a 120" tv to replace your living room wall? to play snes games on? 8k capable ps5 would be neat, even if just for supersampling.

I do wonder if they will do 2k or 4k internal, upscale to 8k on output. Marketing and all that.Fun to dream for sure, but that sounds more like PS7 territory at the earliest. It's certainly possible since that's basically what PS4 Pro is doing from 1440p to 4K. I'd think they'd again at least want to hit half on the internal resolution though, so at least 4K@30 FPS for PS5.I do wonder if they will do 2k or 4k internal, upscale to 8k on output. Marketing and all that.

I can see a noticable difference between 1080p and 4K. But it's not as much of a WOOOOW like SD to HD was for me.anything above 1080p to me is bullshit for most users
in fact tbh 1080p hurts my eyes
well SD back then was mostly shitey composite connectors too (unless you had SCART lol), HDMI is more standardised and consistent so yea it's gonna be betterI can see a noticable difference between 1080p and 4K. But it's not as much of a WOOOOW like SD to HD was for me.

Do you have the proper HDMI cable with the bandwidth capable of actually delivering 4K? Most people dont, and have no idea that they arent actually getting 4K from their boxes. I had no idea (now I also dont have a PS4Pro or a 4K TV).Still waiting on proper 4K. Ok, to be fair, my PS4 Pro is technically capable of a true 4K resolution. But It’s not got the oomph to apply that to any remotely demanding game, it’s all bloody chequerboard. At least my Xbox One X does some proper 4K.
So I’m guessing PS5, actual 4K.. Maybe. And I’d love it to be 4K 60fps capable for even the most demanding games, but I’m not holding my breath for that.
PS9, 8K. If there’s a real console left by that point
As for Micro-LED, I’ve been following that for years and I’m hoping we’re not too many years away from at least reasonably priced sets. It’s got great potential, all the benefits of OLED and more, none of the drawbacks.
I’ve promised the wife I won’t replace my 4K OLED until they hit the market...... Yeah![]()
I generally cannot tell the difference between 1080p and 2160p, unless it's a.) A really big screen, or b.) I'm really close to the screen.
Also, all of my pirated media is likely to be 1080p or less for the foreseeable future. 2160p just isn't worth the file sizes.

But this stuff doesn't really bother me. 1080p locked at 30fps is fine with me. I would rather next gen consoles focus on all games being locked at 60fps rather than try to aim for the arbitrary "4K" resolution.
