Reports indicate Sony's plans to move away from first-party PC releases

Since the release of the PlayStation 5 all the way back in 2020, Sony's strategy around first party games has shifted. Instead of maintaining a library of games exclusive to their consoles, they opted for a period of exclusivity, typically around two years, with a more widespread PC release following. Though a fantastic move in terms of larger gaming accessibility, it has lead to many avoiding the PlayStation platform altogether, with the lack of truly exclusive games taking away from a lot of the value it previously had. According to a Bloomberg however, this strategy may be about to change.

Sources familiar with Sony's plans have indicated their major single-player titles will be remaining exclusive, with online-focused titles like Marathon still seeing a more widespread release. There is yet to be an official statement from Sony on the topic, with Ghost of Yotei being the latest release that could be impacted by this change.

You're absolutely clueless on this subject. A minority customer base hasn't doomed Playstation consoles. The only reason Sony even releases their games on PC is because of how easy it is. They're not making a big profit from releasing their games on PC. They would make more of a profit by keeping their software exclusive to their hardware. Sony does not want to become a complete failure like Microsoft. Look at what happened to Microsoft when they stopped having exclusives on their consoles. Why do you think Microsoft now intends to stop releasing all of their games on PC & instead focus on console exclusives? Why do you think Nintendo refuses to release their games on other platforms? Software sells hardware, hardware does not sell software. People like you would run a gaming company straight into the ground like Phil Spencer did with Xbox.
When did Microsoft say they aren't going to release their games on PC? I'm not saying it didn't happen, I just haven't read that anywhere about Microsoft. I would appreciate a source.

While I can get costs of game development can go up, but at the same time, we find many good fun games that folks have made from their bedrooms.

But console gaming needs to return back to what set them apart from pc gaming.

Exclusives.

As each new gen comes we see more and more studios close down because its become too expensive, licensing alone.

Its where consoles were better than pc as it had exclusives whereas pc ends up with third party console ports.

The idiocy of micrksoft and decades of ignorance from them, when ultimately they had the superior platform from day one but now after screwing up its console market, crawls back to pc.

Gives us a very poor Front end loader app which is inferior to free alternatives already out there.

But is it too late for them now that valve step in and wants to try push pc gaming with their dedicated machine.

End of the day this is what pc needs, its never had games optimised for its hardware and the so called pc master race would blow thousands on a high end graphic card that for example now, 24GB or 32GB is far ahead of anything consoles will have.

Yet your playing assassins creed with the same base game files just to have a slightly better experience like a little urther draw, higher AA.

When this sort of GPU power is like what 3 or 4 console generations ahead.

Pc games should be like comparing it to a psx console.

But youll never see games like this because Microsoft have neglected the pc market until now.... and all theyre doing it trying to force gaming to become a Sh1tFlix service aka plan B to their block pre owned game sales which will just kill off what remaining game stores we have.

Its ok tho, as long as Microsoft maximises its profits right?

Goddamnit, NO.

Don't you morons realise that putting your games on Steam results in more people buying them? Especially GOOD ones like Ghost of Tsushima and Spider-Man/Spider-Man: Miles Morales?

There's a lot of people who won't buy a console but do have a decent PC already, so if you morons restrict your games to your console they won't buy your games - whereas they really might have bought them if they were on PC.
Like, for example, me. My last Sony console was the PS4 Pro - the PS5 has never been appealing, and likely never will be, whilst I've definitely bought Tsushima, the Spider-Man duo, and the Persona games (and Metaphor: ReFantazio) through Steam. I'd happily buy more good Sony games if they were on Steam, too - but never on PS Store, because I don't have the console.

Sure, okay, keep them exclusive for your console - for a year or two only. THEN release them on Steam! I don't mind waiting; I've got a job and plenty of old, fantastic games to replay.
Nintendo is calling on the phone. This company will take its IP to the grave before releasing anything for PC.
Guess what? They are doing FAR better than those with no exclusives. Go figure.

Also, PC gamers have to wait for 1-3 for PS4/PS5 games to be ported to PC, but time window gets less and less over the time.

PS4 only outsold PS5 by few millions in same console year and there are some people retired from PS or video game as whole due to time constraint, loss of interest, medical reason and others.

I think that is intended to prevent the current PS5 gamers from move to PC in near future but I don't think that PC base is big.

My last time to got new game was Ghost of Yotei for my birthday and I'm not interested in Death Stranding 2. Not sure about next new PS game I would get. GTA 6 would be big deal for console for while.

GT7 is still PS exclusive. inFamous is still locked with PS (couple are on PS3 and didn't receive the remasters at all).

Xbox One had problem, especially higher cost for Kinect included and MS didn't start to port their games to PC in few years later. I remember big game was Forza Horizon 2 that is still stuck with Xbox ecosystem. I don't believe that MS release games on PC at same time that is major problem for Xbox, but it is just side effect and it has with MS's bad strategy to make Xbox not sell well, so they should have fix the problem long time ago.

she doesn't fit visually; and considering the time period and natural biological differences between men and women, a female protagonist overcoming numerous male enemies is unrealistic and unbelievable.

Brahz, these are video games. Realism isn't part of the deal. Do you think Spider Man and Mario are based on true events?

In other news, I need Ghost of Yotei on PC pls Sony. I sold my PS5 and have no other way of playing it.

Sony realized that people wanted performance and graphical fidelity and found that with PC ports.

They would prefer you find it in the new PS5 Pro. Now available for $749.99.

Fuck them

you cant buy the systems, since production is being limited or even halted, price hikes because of the chip-crisis and now you cant buy the upcoming ones on pc anymore either.

Fuck me. This is why we cant have nice things.

This makes perfect sense.
It never made sense for them to abandon exclusives, just look at the series X nowadays, pretty much dead as soon as the system stopped having exclusives.

Sony wants to move consoles as well and people on PC tend to wait for sales more than people who buy consoles.

So nobody at Sony realised that to get people to stay on the platform there has to be games for them to play? That explains so much about this console generation.
Tbf they had stock issues especially since ps5 released during the time covid was just starting to calm down. Also scalpers issues with this. They had issues keeping stock on shelves, people couldn't afford $500 consoles so their only fall back was to port games to PC since most people already had a capable gaming PC.

GOOOOOD im still so unhappy about this.
Why Sony whyyyyy.
I just upgraded my PC, everything runs so well, why do you hate me so.
I wanna play in 1440p and still get 100+fps without silly upscaling or framegen.
Im gonna hate playing Yotei on my crummy PS5 Slim -.- and im NOT buying that stupid Pro!
How can you slow down production of systems after several price hikes and then complain no ones buying the systems anymore. Thats so dumb man.

God damn it, i need to vent... Time to play some Tsushima and ride my horse for a while.

I'm guessing all the losses from Concord or whatever sorry attempt at live service gaming is keeping these phony execs awake at night

I have a PS5 but I dunno, I feel like they already opened Pandora's box here for multiplatform releases. I typically get the PC version anyway and if something's exclusive to the PS6 I'll just do without.
