To say there are only four or five people on GBATemp who recommend switching from SX OS to Atmosphere isn't even close to true. Disingenuous claims won't help make your point.

It's the same few people who can't get over the fact that SXOS is still the superior custom firmware, for the time being. Of course open source will eventually take over, but it's not happening yet. You or anybody else will not change anybodys mind, so just stop.

This is coming from an Atmo user. 7.0.0 is not important right now. People care about now, not the future. They will worry about that when the time comes. And there will be an SX update by then. And if there isn't, again, who cares?? They got their money's worth by a long shot.

Back to the topic, this is why SX installer is still the superior installer as well.

SX OS doesn't support 7.0.0 and higher, but Atmosphere does. That doesn't sound very superior to me, but that's just my opinion.

It is possible that TX has silently stopped supporting SX OS, leaving only Atmosphere and ReiNX.

You or anybody else will not change anybodys mind, so just stop.
Tell that to the people making the switch from SX OS to Atmosphere and requesting tutorials.

7.0.0 is not important right now. People care about now, not the future. They will worry about that when the time comes.
If you're going to move the goalposts, at least concede when you're wrong. First it was, "7.0.0 isn't important." After I demonstrated that 7.0.0 was indeed important, you changed it to, "7.0.0 isn't important right now."

Regardless, 7.0.0 or higher will eventually be requirements for playing newer games, and SX OS doesn't support 7.0.0 or higher.

And there will be an SX update by then.
That's possible, but TX would have to independently break TSEC, and that's easier said than done. They've also never demonstrated the ability to do something like that.

Alternatively, TX could use sept and the Atmosphere logo. It's entirely possible that the amount of work required for either one of these options outweighs any profits they're still making. After all, the majority of SX OS purchases happened before free CFW with signature patches became available.

And if there isn't, again, who cares?? They got their money's worth by a long shot.
The people who want to play games that require 7.0.0 or higher will care, and they will want to switch to Atmosphere so they can play those games. That's what the topic is about, in case you forgot.

Supporting a firmware is by no means superior. Features, in my humble opinion, is what's important. And atmosphere is lacking that. Don't even get me started on scrolling through raw code. It's just ugly.

Yeah, all 3 people requesting tuts. Those are the people who made the rookie mistake of not creating an emuNAND, and in their own confidence updated to 7.0.0. Which I will continue to say is not important at the moment. With the 3 updates that require it.

It's possible they've abandoned SXOS. But I can confirm that's not the case.

Worry about it when the time comes. Again, coming from an atmosphere user.

Supporting later system versions is pretty important to whether or not specific games can be played, so I respectfully disagree. It's arguably the most important feature.

Features, in my humble opinion, is what's important. And atmosphere is lacking that.
First, support for later system versions is a feature. Second, Atmosphere has all of the important features, which is why most people didn't buy SX OS after free and functional CFW was released. The price tag doesn't seem to be worth any feature SX OS has that Atmosphere doesn't.

Don't even get me started on scrolling through raw code. It's just ugly.
There are several problems with this statement. First, there's nothing wrong with the Atmosphere code. Second, it's a double-standard to criticize Atmosphere's code when we can't see the SX OS source code. Third, what we can see in the decrypted SX OS software is that it has a lot of that ugly Atmosphere code inside it. I feel like you're being disingenuous again in order to make a misguided point.

Yeah, all 3 people requesting tuts.
There you are moving the goalposts again. You went from "not going to change anybody's mind" to "oh, well, you're not going to change more than three people's minds." In reality, plenty of people are at least curious about making the switch from SX OS to Atmosphere, and it's highly recommended.

A lot of SX OS users have fallen victim to the sunk cost fallacy, but the prospect of not being able to update to 7.0.0 or higher and play newer games is enough to break that mindset. The same thing happened to Gateway users.

Those are the people who made the rookie mistake of not creating an emuNAND, and in their own confidence updated to 7.0.0.
Which is only a problem because SX OS does not support 7.0.0 or higher.

Which I will continue to say is not important at the moment. With the 3 updates that require it.
The problem for SX OS users is it's three and counting.

It's possible they've abandoned SXOS. But I can confirm that's not the case.
How can you confirm SX OS has not been abandoned immediately after acknowledging that it's possible SX OS has been abandoned? The two statements are contradictory.
In addition, what evidence do you have that SX OS hasn't been abandoned?

Worry about it when the time comes.
That time might be now.

That time might be now.

I use both cfw's. One more than the other for obvious reasons. Just giving an unbiased opinion, unlike some because atmosphere is all they have or can afford.

Firmware is so far from what users care about. Let's be honest with ourselves. There's terabytes worth of content So they will use Atmosphere for 7.0.0 when a AAA game finally comes? (assuming TX hasn't release an update by then). Then afterwards, they will run straight back to SXOS for literally everything else.

I'm not saying their code is ugly. I'm saying the lack of a UI is. A custom firmware that looks like you're in Android safe mode is not appealing to the end user.

Show me a user who's upset at their purchase with SXOS. The only thing atmosphere has, is 7.0.0 support.

@Lacius
Let's not forget the promised update for ipatched units people are waiting for until this day. It shows that they can't find the vulnerabilities by themself --> chance of them breaking TSEC near zero.

Millions of exploitable units available. That's all ya got?

When it comes to what a lot of people want, you said it best:
They want to play backups.
When that's all one really cares about, the paid features of SX OS are pointless when free custom firmwares like Atmosphere and ReiNX can play backups, and there is a good chance that SX OS will not allow one to play newer backups, since it doesn't support 7.0.0 or higher.

Firmware is so far from what users care about. Let's be honest with ourselves.
Let's. When a new game comes out for the Wii, Wii U, 3DS, Switch, etc. that doesn't work because it requires a newer software version, it becomes all the user cares about. I think we are both in agreement that for a lot of users, software version doesn't really matter, but the moment it gets in the way of playing certain games, it matters a whole lot. That's why it is recommended that one update from SX OS to Atmosphere. SX OS does not support 7.0.0 or higher.

So they will use Atmosphere for 7.0.0 when a AAA game finally comes? (assuming TX hasn't release an update by then). Then afterwards, they will run straight back to SXOS for literally everything else.
If the history of Gateway is any indication, an inability to play newer games will almost always cause a permanent migration from the incompatible CFW to the compatible CFW. It's a little silly to think most users would go back and forth when they know one CFW isn't receiving updates and can't play newer games.

I'm not saying their code is ugly. I'm saying the lack of a UI is. A custom firmware that looks like you're in Android safe mode is not appealing to the end user.
That's an interesting criticism that I've never heard before. CFW doesn't require a UI. That's what the homebrew launcher and homebrew applications are for.

Show me a user who's upset at their purchase with SXOS.
First, there have been some users who have said they regret purchasing SX OS, and we also both know that people are actively wanting to migrate from SX OS to Atmosphere now due to the lack of support from SX OS, but that was never my point. My point was that a lot of the posts I've seen from SX OS users show they're committing the sunk cost fallacy.

The only thing atmosphere has, is 7.0.0 support.
For the sake of the discussion, I will pretend this is true. Support for 7.0.0 and higher is extremely important when it comes to being able to play newer games. It makes most other features exclusive to SX OS more irrelevant than they already are.

Millions of exploitable units available. That's all ya got?
First, the point was that TX said they had an exploit for patched Switch systems and that support from them was on the way. However, most people should have realized that was a marketing technique and a lie. Just as there's a chance that SX OS will never support anything higher than 6.2.0, there is a good chance that SX OS will never support ipatched systems. Second, TX is not responsible for the exploit currently used by SX OS.

You both make valid points, but the bickering has to end. SXOS users will use SXOS. Atmosphere users will use Atmosphere.

Let it be.
If a person is more comfortable with using SX OS, then that's the best CFW for him or her. However, for the reasons listed above, migrating from SX OS to Atmosphere is recommended. It's the same thing I would say to anyone who still uses Gateway on the 3DS.

Connect your Switch to your computer and install over a USB connection.

Where's EmuNAND? USBLoading? XCI Mounting?
Most people wouldn't call those the most important features. They also don't care about the those features when presented a choice between free and fee. I'd also argue that 7.0.x compatibility is the only important feature that one CFW has that the other doesn't. SX OS doesn't support 7.0.x, and it's possible it will never support anything above 6.2.0, limiting its ability to play future games.

Based on the candid conversations I've had with users of SX OS, Atmosphere, and ReiNX, the only feature on your list that's at all tempting is emuNAND, and that's only for the subsection of users who also utilize online play. It's also an inevitable feature on the free custom firmwares. The other two features are, in my opinion, fluff that are generally used to justify one's sunk cost fallacy.

USBLoading is important i think....xci mounting is not needed...but one great feature was xci from hdd.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

i have goldleaf 0.4 and it wont connect to goldtree on pc.

Word counting doesn't change the fact that SX has more core features than the rest. There are 3 emunand methods to choose from, Emutendo solution, the advance USB function and the useful payload/menu GUI are the good ones to have on SX. Keep in mind, SX works on fw 7.0.1 to boot emunand 6.2.
