You can update your console without burning fuses. Than you can downgrade later if you need to.

Hi Guys so im gonna be doing the whole backup of my NAND and have a rcm jig with me. Im not sure how reliable this rcm jig is because it comes from a seller which has already stopped selling and was giving them away.

can anyone take a look at the RCM jig if it can do its job? im scared slotting it in

I use SX OS but there are also some free custom firmwares with good features (Atmosphere and ReiNX). Depend on what you need. There is no coldboot for now, but possible in the future.

Every time you turn off your console you need to go to RCM (autoRCM does this automatically for you) and inject the payload. Dont update to 7.0 yet.

Mmmh ok but If I remember correctly If you turn on RCM the battery will be drained fast and die right? Or they solved this issue?

Only if you stay in RCM (most times your only short there). If you install autoRCM you need to turn off the console in hekate or SX OS to fully power it off.

You could just enable AutoRCM and never have to deal with a jig ever again.

RCM stands for Recovery Maintenance Mode. If you hold volume + and the home button when turning on your phone, you enter the Recovery menu. Same thing applies to the Switch except that the home button is not actually a button; its embedded within pin 10 on the right Joy-Con rail. Shorting or grounding it is the only way to press the home button and if you do that while holding volume + while powering the Switch on, you will enter RCM. You can short/ground pin 10 with anything that conducts electricity ranging from a paperclip to a jig you buy from eBay.

Reformat your SD card to FAT32. Even the inital releases of SD Files supported firmware 5.1

So you gotta mess with power stuff to get it working? oh god that sounds scary. Can you short out or fuck up your switch doing this? isn't there something purely software related like with the wii's letterbombing thing you can do instead?

Got my dongle and RCM Clip. Formatted my card as exFat and made a backup of the Nand. Following the tutorial, at the part where it was asked to go to the CFW, i was greeted with a black screen. Got a little freaked out, formatted the card to fat32 and redone the whole process. However, i never copied the first backup since i was quite freaked out. Question: the new NAND backup is tainted?

Its not really power stuff; its literally jamming metal into your Switch. You're making it a lot more complicated than it needs to be. The only trouble you could potentially run into is shorting pin 4 which can mess up the voltage of your Switch but its nowhere near the pins you connect pin 10 to short it out which include pins 1, 7, and 9. Most jigs and paperclips connect pins 1 and 10 together to ground 10 while aluminum foil is used to join pins 9 & 10. You can even take a cable to connect pin 10 to the metallic screws on the rail or the fan grill on the top.

You can buy an RCM jig off amazon for like $8 that'll short pins 1 & 10 on the right joycon rail to enter RCM mode. After installing your CFW you can enable AutoRCM and never have to use the jig again.
