I can't create a playlist either with this version unless I have the Rom on internal. And as ploggy said it's real slow even if you was to set it up manually.

I've been dealing with a theory all day that uninstalling the app/game doesn't necessarily uninstall the dependency data. It could be that those people had the correct version installed still, so the system just let it slide. Whereas you and I were dealing with truly clean installs (I had reset my system due to a mistake on my part) and lacked the files needed to get the install done.

I'd still like someone else to test this as well (Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?), but it looks like my theory was correct. I just uninstalled RetroArch, restarted my console then attempted to reinstall RetroArch by itself without selecting any dependency files. The result was a successful installation. That would appear to be the reason why no one else had the issue.
 
I'll test tomorrow ive just turned the xbox off. Arnt the dependencies needed to help retroarch? The very first version worked without dependencies btw

The very first version probably used the VCLibs that were preinstalled on the system. The dependency appx is actually just an container for a Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 UWP Runtime Package Installer. Double click it in windows and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Wish there was a way to setup the download links accordingly. Maybe upload the 2 files separately and describe it as "If this your first time installing RetroArch or you have reset your system, please download archive 1 and archive 2" and "If upgrading RetroArch, please download archive 2"

Umm sorry if this is dumb but doesn't ppsspp use opengl? If so couldn't this be used. Sorry if I'm completely wrong

Yes, ppsspp uses opengl on all major platforms. The uwp port was rewritten to use d3d, but only the uwp version includes it. Moreso the uwp portion of ppsspp is no longer supported/mantained. That's why there is a stand alone emulator, but the core doesn't work.

BTW, I wanted to add, that while dolphin supports and have a d3d11 video backend renderer engine support, the core for retroarch is written with olengl. Maybe someday we will see the core with d3d11 support.

Thanks for the explanation. Was there any news about the retroarch dev getting opengl working. I saw a comment I think by ploggy a couple pages back. Was wondering if any ideas have started to go ahead?

I saw it too, but i think they mentioned it somewhere on the retroarch forums. Someone threw the idea to use angle to wrap the opengl calls and create the d3d11 counterpart, but nothing else has been mentioned since.

Once we have opengl it will help so much with different cores. Also about the categories I've managed to get mine to show by scanning them directly through the xbox. Which they are stored on my external hard drive and there doesn't seem to be a slow down when scrolling through the menu. Although it took about half hour to scan 200 mega drive roms lol

Yeah, the only reason I stopped bothering with setting up the categories was because of the scan speed. Even on a USB 3.1 flash drive it was taking forever. But good to see that I'm not the only one not seeing a lag when scrolling through though.
 
I found if you scan the directory while playing a game then it's not so bad waiting half hour lolz and once its done then you don't have to load core then find the Rom
 
Double check your categories to be sure the ALL your roms are listed. It will skip scanning them when loading or unloading content.
