Hmmmm I have downloaded 150gb worth .3ds games. If I install cias then I have to download all the games again & I don't know of where to get legit .cias that won't get me banned on 3ds.

But I want to use it. Is there any way?
There is no way to use Gateway 3DS on firmware 11.9. You're going to be waiting for a long time for support that will likely never materialize.

The last known working franken firmware was version 11.7 shared by @123ab back in June 22, 2018 at that German psx forum. If I didn't know any better since he's two versions behind, that guy must have finally hit a dead end. Even then, using franken firmware is asking for trouble when your 3DS stops working for the most obscure incompatibilities.

But hey, what do we know? While the rest of us here with custom firmware are already playing games installed on HOME Menu where even *.3ds cart roms can be converted into *.cia ones, I'm sure you don't mind the wait whether it'll be another 6 months or even 2 years. Maybe never? Nah! Just gotta hold on believing 11.9 GW EmuNAND is Coming Soon™!!

Converting .3ds to .cia isn't risky?

There is no risk using a CIA game that was converted from 3DS rom. If anything, it's probably safer because you don't have to worry about having a private header which you would needed on a 3DS flashcart.

You can convert your collection using GodMode9:
, athough I find it much faster using 3DS Simple CIA Converter once you dump the boot9.bin file from the 3DS system and place it in that Windows program's folder. See the later posts in that thread in how to get boot9.bin and where exactly where to put it.

Depending how many games you'e played, what you will dislike when going from Gateway to SD card is converting the Gateway saves to HOME Menu saves. These will need to be brought over with a working Gateway EmuNAND on an older firmware using either SaveDataFiler, JKSM, or possibly Checkpoint.

Actually 123ab's patch allowed emuNAND to be updated to 11.8 with an additional patch to fix eShop compatibility iirc. As it stands, eShop gets borked on 11.9 and there is no fix at this point in time. However, it appears everything else is working fine.

So pretty much the 3 options are:
  1. B9S (with Luma) + 11.2 emuNAND for GW
  2. B9S (with Luma) + converting saves
  3. Find 123ab's patch and get GW 11.9 but sacrifice eShop until further notice
Quite frankly, if you are already having this much trouble even identifying any of the 3 aforementioned options to begin with, perhaps it would be a good idea to listen to everyone else and choose the easiest path i.e #2 with save conversion. #1 and #3 are for people who know what they are getting themselves into, hence why they are not the first recommendation.

Since I didn't see 11.8 or 11.9 made by 123ab, I came to the conclusion that those version firmwares weren't possible. Thank you for correcting the record.

A lot of us do not have Gateway 3DS flashcarts. If @Haider Raza decides to pursue this approach, I can be of no further assistance to him. While I'm astonished anyone goes to the trouble still using this product, I can understand the reason in continuing its ussage because of the trouble in migrating games from *.3ds/*.3dz to *.cia and converting saves if there are more than a handful of titles. There's a bit of a learning curve to using custom firmware made worse if one has long enjoyed the (once) convenience of Gateway.

I will still try to persuade anyone using Gateway, Sky3DS, and Stargate to move on over to custom firmware because it is my belief that is the overall better setup to have.

@TurdPooCharger I certainly do not disagree with that sentiment. The B9S+Luma combo is low risk and low maintenance. For people like OP, it is objectively the best option. I only listed out the other options so that other users who have more expertise with tinkering are aware of the other alternatives when they research the topic.

@Haider Raza Let's be honest here. Your best shot would be to convert your saves and follow the guide to get B9S. It will be tedious now but in the long run, you will save yourself far more time and effort. Not like you have anything to lose

You should have told me earlier. :(

I converted all of my games to .cia & deleted the .3dz ones. Also I could have sacrificed the eshop because I don't use that. :(

Trust me. Converting all your games to .cia and migrating to B9S+Luma is worth the effort. You might think that you won't need the eShop but when it comes to getting game updates and stuff, it will be far far easier with what you have now than if you went with any of the other workarounds.

Doesn't 3ds have a limit to install games in it? Because once I installed all GBA games but the ones I had before were gone from the home menu. I have 2 128gb cards & I want to install 200+games. Will there be a issue?

I am not 100% sure on that. I seem to recall a 300 title limit. You'll need to confirm with other people in the thread on that matter
