Suggestion Keep "World News, Current Events & Politics" posts from the sidebar

"World News, Current Events & Politics" seems to be very Edge-of-Forum-y mostly. I see this site as a great source of news, but in the gaming category. I don't want to debate politics and current events here. There are other websites, like Reddit, that are better suited for this kind of discussion. And to be completely blunt, the quality of discussion in that subreddit is severly lacking.

Keep the Forum, but please don't bother me with that subsection as the first thing I see when I open this page. Be it logged in or not. This is not what this site is about and I don't think it is a direction you should want the site to develop to.

I agree with your suggestion on a global scale, the forum section certainly has its uses but it shouldnt be front and center.

In the meantime, did you know you can hide certain forum sections from appearing in places like that from your New Content Preferences? (Obviously will only affect you and won't work when logged out but it might help)

While logged on: do as what @Seriel suggested. It cut down Edge of the Forum, Art, and other subforums I have no interest in. Much easier to parse and enjoy the site.
While logged off: you're SOL. It's not like you're using an offline, cached version of the website. You obviously can use the internet if you're using the site, so just log in and take advantage of the aforementioned feature.

Just tried it to be sure, Edge of the Forum already is not in the sidebar in the "All content" tab (the first thing you see in the sidebar), whether you're logged in or not. That was what lead me to ask for this in the first place.

While I do agree with you, the sidebar's Recent Content widget is (probably) the same one that's on the front page, meaning they'd have to exclude that subforum from Recent Content altogether or add a tab for it as they did for the EoF, but that'd make it very crowded.
Maybe an option in the widget's settings (on the Customise Portal page) to exclude it would be better? I dunno.
