Hacking Is my PS3 hackable?

The process advertises itself as being able to even go straight to CFW from 4.82 OFW. Didn't go *that smoothly* to me, as I had to borrow some extra files and a patched CFW file meant to facilitate the process, but I was then since able to flash into proper 4.82.2 Rebug. It definitely took more tries than I felt it should have.

You should be able to go straight to latest rebug if you install it via recovery mode, at least I could.

I got the impression that someone wanted the kudos of creating a patched cfw, instead of telling people they just need to hold a button while turning the ps3 on.

It depends.
(CFW compatible) With an HW Flasher (like E3) you can downgrade back to 3.55 and install a CFW.
(HAN compatible) No luck.

Look up PS3Xploit and check the compatibility list. I will warn you though that if you have a super slim then you're out of luck

So my PS3 is a 3000B, that can only go down to 3.72 (according to MinVerCheck). I guess one day someone will figure it out, but for now I'm stuck with an un-hackable PS3. The funny thing is the only thing I want to do to it is change the controller layout from Japanese to North American. It seems to work fine with most of my games but then there's a few games/programs like Netflix that really get weird, where it says "press X to start the video" but then exits. And then O will play the video.

I prefer the CECH-250x, it's a permanent CFW and can do everything. You have to be careful as a small number of them might not support CFW.

I've never tried psp on the ps3, but supposedly it works.

ps2 games are hit and miss, some work, some don't and some are unplayably slow. I use a ps2 slim for running ps2 games.

hmm i only ask because there are some Japanese games with fan translations i would like to play (ps2/psp) and was wondering if a modded ps3 was a good solution.

Good news is these are now semi-hackable. You can now install 4.84 hybrid firmware which will allow you to install HEN, which then allows multiman and downloadable games.

CECHA0x is what I prefer. It has the best reverse compatibility and plays the rest of the games perfectly as well. Only problem is the price tag.

I had a 2502-A cfw'd, on firmware 4.82.
IDK what you guys are on, its hackable. Just get a PS3UPDAT.PUP for 4.82, do the PS3XPLOIT hack

Yes, it's fine. Worst case is just using ps3xploit to patch your current firmware. As long as you're not on like the latest OFW which I believe patched out the exploit, then it shouldn't be a problem. Last I checked, the last (vulnerable) OFW for said exploit was 4.84, but I believe there was a 4.85 released not long after.

Can you downgrade the firmware if it is on the latest OFW? I was reading something about that awhile ago. Also do you know if older models of PS3 Slim (Such as 20XX vs 25XX) have worse performance in games or not? Not sure if those numbers indicate hardware differences or not.

If you're at least able to run the ps3xploit, then technically, what you do with that is patch your OFW to be able to then install CFW of the same or newer version straight from there. Once on CFW, there is downgrading capability. Just not as much reason to nowadays.

4.83 patched the exploit, then upgraded to 4.84 which is current.

If you are on OFW 4.84 you can update to HFW 4.84 via recovery mode (this removes the patch to make PS3 unhackable). Once done, use ps3xploit to do a proper hack, and upgrade to CFW 4.84.

Hello I have a PS3 slim CECH2504A on 4.86, is there a website like wii.guide for the ps3 softmod/jailbreak? It's a lot more complicated than the wii and there is so much stuff everywhere I don't know where to begin to get the most up to date info.
